The Turkish players immediately stuck their fingers in the blood of the neck and wiped it on their foreheads.
"Then they started motioning for me to do it," Baron remembers. "I’m like, ‘You gotta be crazy!’ And I got the heck out of there."

It’s not unusual for players who are not pleasing the team’s ownership to have their hot water, electricity and Internet cut off in their company-supplied apartments. This happened to a teammate of Baron’s at Mercin, Marcus Cousin (University of Houston). "He ended up staying with me it was so bad," Baron says.

"At one of our games, the fans came on the floor and tried to fight us! It’s a whole different world over there. Women wearing burkas. People dropping in the street to pray all the time. Is life playing basketball in Europe, Asia, and Latin America different from the NBA? Of course, but there are also advantages (the workload isn’t 125+ games at 35 minutes a clip for 9 straight months counting preseason and playoffs.) Yes, many Muslims in Turkey are quite devoted, but Deron Williams has played in Utah. Are fans abusive? Umm… weren’t there people praising those random pro-am sumer league atmospheres a week ago?

wake up we’re living in a world larger than us territory with different culture religion way of life… way of playing/
that’s not a question of good or bad, it’s not so simple… life ain’t star wars. You can’t judge life in a country based on your habits from your education and socialisation… this is ethnocentrism. Is people praying only in turkey ? come on what an hypocrisy. Is there only sport excesses from fans or owners in turkey ?
I think lot’s of bball us players who build their carreer in europe have been very pleased to : michael ray richardson played and lived here in france (I’m a french teacher in economics and sociology) and was happy here. I think tyus edney, mike batiste, pete mickael, bob mcadoo, jr holden and so much more who played and lived in europe enjoyed their lives.
But to enjoy you have to make the effort of not judging something you can’t understand. Too easy to stay 2 months being fed up like a little boy (hey ho jeremy tyler ?….) and complain about "ho god thoses savages are eating some frogs ?!!! (lol) ". The coment of Eric Devendorf is so ridiculous. Maybe he would have enjoy his trip and learn something from this experience if he had persevered.
Passion of fans is not always a bad thing : did you already watch a game of partizan belgrade in its homecourt ? so impressive towards the often cold boring nba arena.

I have never heard of a musician being opposed to spending months and months on the road touching every country that will have them. Heck, Beyonce, Usher, Mariah Carey, and Lionel Richie have gone to Libya to perform for Qaddafi. It is their life, and how they make their living. It is a complete farce that the mainstream NBA media types (ESPN, SI, etc) are looking to dismiss the possibility of players going abroad because they are too spoiled to handle it.
There have been players (American and European) who have had bad experiences in the NBA and have badmouthed the league and culture around it when they left. It really isn’t hard to find someone who had a bad job experience and willing to rant about it.
