     Having said that, obviously it’s very difficult to overcome the dynamic scorers like Durant, Lebron, Dirk.  But I am interesting in a discussion to see how plausible it is for Curry to one day to sniff the scoring champ in the league?

    Yes.  However, in this day and age, it would be too difficult for a PG or distributor to do that while keeping his teammates involved.   The best at doing it in recent times is A.I. and Lebron.  He would have to sacrifice a lot of his playmaking and I dont think he is headed in that direction…he wants to be a better playmaker.  So again, to answer your question, he has the tools, but its too difficult to do with him being a distributor.

    I really like Curry as a player but with so many good young scorers in the league i find it hard to believe he will win a scoring title. He does have the tools to be top 5 in scoring in any year but with durant being so young, dirk, lebron, even carmelo if he gets the right pg to get get him good shots and the amount of quality players in the upcoming drafts I dont think it will happen for him.

    It would have to be a perfect storm of events first monta would have to be off the team and injuries or down years for the other top scorers in the same year for Steph to even have a chance at winning the scoring title.

    I defintely think he has the tools but as stated earlier hes moving towards being more of a playmaker. injuries happen in basketball so if ellis were to go down, he’d definitely need to be the one who picked up some of that scoring. Durant will be a top scorer for long time now but as that team keeps growing, he may start losing a few shots to harden, westbrook and ibaka. he doesnt seem like a selfish guy whatsoever so i wouldnt be surprised if he just worked on becoming even more efficient or other aspects of his game. Lebron doesnt need to put up as many pts playing with wade and bosh, nowitzki i believe will start to be saved for playoff runs and carmelo is playing along side amare who needs the ball.

    So yeah a lot of things need to happen but if the warriors ever ask curry to look to be a scorer, i think he can definitely come close. he has the tools just not the situation (as in trying to be a complete pg, i am well aware of how many pts the warriors put up)

     Maybe on a down year for scoring, AI lead the league with 26.75 ppg and I could see Steph scoring that much in a couple years.  His shooting percentages are so high and as he gains more experience he’s not going to give that up if he shoots more.

    Do I ever think he’ll drop 30 a night? No way, but I think he could get 26 and as guys capable of scoring 30 + ppg keep teaming up with other guys that could score 30 + ppg a night he may be able to squeak one out, so yes he has the tools, but I doubt it and give Steph a 9% chance of winning a scoring title.

     I doubt it because as his point guard skills increase he should be setting up his teammates. He has also watched Ellis do his me me me score score score routine and Steph knows that doesn’t win ball games. Steph is too well rounded to try to just carry an NBA team scoring-wise for an entire season.

    Even if he wanted to, I don’t think he could. This isn’t Davidson. He’s not that kind of player in the league.

    I really disagree.  He averaged over 17ppg as a rookie and over 18ppg in his 2nd season…all while playing next to a guy who averaged around 25ppg with a ridiculous amount of minutes and usage rate.  If Ellis would not be on that team, Curry absolutely would score over 25ppg.  Anyone who shoots a high percentage and is the focus of an offense has the ability to put up a ton of points.  When you compare them by usage rate, Curry and Ellis’ scoring averages are much closer.  This aint Jackson State either and Purvis Short averaged 28ppg one year, that would typically be enough to win a scoring title….bad thing for Short was, there was a guy named King who averaged 32ppg that year, and the two runner ups to him?  Jordan and Bird.

    @surve

    Curry will NEVER lead the league in scoring. Mark that down. He’s not that player. Is he capable of 20+ in a season? No doubt. But leading the entire league in scoring? It’s not going to happen.

    As a Warrior fan, I think he has the ability, but the problem is he is just too small, two inches taller and 20 pounds heavier and I would say he could be a Ray Allen type, but although the possibility exists for him to be a scoring champ, I don’t see it happening. If he were 3-4 inches taller, he would be a Reggie Miller type, but for now, he sort of like a Ben Gordon who is willing to distribute a bit more.

    20 is about his ceiling. Anything beyond that effeciency will tank. To the guy that set Monta is holding him back, hardly, Monta is the reason he gets open shots. Without Monta, Curry is now the focus of the defense and I believe his effeciency would plummit.

    several of us have said here that it is not likely for him to do so, that we agree on, but to say he isnt capable is a stretch… the guy is a pure shooter with great range and efficiency.  the poster asked does he have to tools, he does.  it doesnt matter how many possessions GSW has or if he is on a team that totally sucks ballz…I am just answering the question.  he absolutely has the tools.  the probability due to his situation is not likely but that is due more to circumstance (along with Durant and guys like that being healthy) than his ability to average say somewhere in the 26-28ppg range.

    TLW…..I dont think anyone is saying Ellis is holding him back…hypothetically, if Monta misses an entire season do you really think Curry would average LESS?  that doesnt even make any sense.
