I just got back home from watching the 3rd place and championship games of the Adidas nations at Cal State Dominguez Hills. First off, there was a decent turnout of NBA folks, with Eric Gordon, Josh Smith, Wes Johnson, coach Mike Brown, and Candace Parker among the crowd.

    3rd Place game:

Standout- Soloman Poole= This 2013 PG may stand only 6 feet, but he put on an absolute awesome display of athelticism. He already is headed into Eric Bledsoe territory in terms of his build and posseses elite jumping ability. He threw down 3 NASTY dunks and made a few J’s as well. His big problem right now is that he doesn’t have super advanced ball handling skills (although his handle is good). Improving that should put him over the top.

Biggest Bust- Dajuan Coleman= DC looked overweight, slow, and tired. He was last man down the court every time back, showed poor hands, and was not explosive in the least around the basket. Major, major work to do for this young man.

Mentions- Kaleb Tarzcewski looked good in catch and finish situations. He runs the floor like a deer and can elevate well to finsih. However, he struggles when he has to take a dribble or make a true post move. Xavier Johnson can flat out stroke it. He is a smooth lefty with nice touch and deceptive athleticism. Kyle Anderson showed that even in ‘Slo Mo’ he is great passer and has tight handle.

    Championship Game:

    Standout- Tommy Hamilton/ Cameron Ridley

These two bigs (on opposite teams) played great ball. Hamilton is a big body who has suprisingly agile feet and a great touch out to 18ft. Ridley made some great post moves and showed a nice jump hook turning left to the middle of the paint. They both have amazingly long arms and Ridley uses that to his advantage with a very high release that is hard to block.

Biggest Bust- No real busts in this one. Maybe that Shabazz didn’t play?

Andre Drummond- What an enigma. He will go 5 minutes on the court looking absolutely disinterested and then throw down a dunk that takes your breath away. He honestly looked bored out there much of the time, but if he ever decides to play an entire game full throttle, then holy sh!t!!

Mentions- The Harrison twins looked really good. They both have great bball IQ. Chris Walker is a great transition athlete at the 3/4, but lacks touch at range and struggles with the ball on the floor. Rodney Purvis looked more like a distributor than I have yet to see.

All in all a really fun time with some future pros.

Dajuan Coleman was a MAJOR disappointment tonight. He made NO impact on the game! I literally forgot he was on the roster for most of the game until the commentators would mention his name. You would think a top 5 prospect would do much more right?

I’ll have to watch the replay on TV to see what you guys are talking about! Was it that bad?

Also, I want to note how good Yogi Ferrell looked. He is really small, but lightning quick and he makes the perfect pass almost every time. Even his turnovers were on great looks that only just failed. His biggest setback will be his size as he struggled to finish at the rim. He was blocked a few times after great moves to the tin.

I was really impressed with him. He also doesn’t settle for bad shots, which as a primary ballhandler in a setting like this is easy to do.

find Team Africa’s roster. There was an incredibly tall African player last night, ut team Africa was not playing so I didn’t get a name. Anyone find any roster lists with height/weight? He looked about 7-2 and maybe 210 pounds soaking wet. Just curious.
