andxxxParticipantI forgot how athletic Vince Carter really was

OhCanada-Participant0:23 Seconds….Carter gets it back, and….gets two….
Any other player dunks the ball like that fans are going crazy, the announcer makes sure he puts out his calling card phrase, and the teamates are highfiving and going nuts. For Vince its just a casual two points…

IndianaBasketballParticipantI was at the game vs the Pacers where he dunked on Mullin. The whole building just got quiet… I mean, you could hear a pin drop… And people were staring at each other in amazement…

JNixonParticipantVince Carter was CRAZY athletic, I remember when he used to be able to make crazy dunks but he was also skilled too in Toronto. He is the best dunker I’ve seen in the NBA to this day. But he also had a nice jumper and some good moves. Used to make clutch shots too. He literally didn’t have to play hard at all and would still drop 20. He got hurt alot and wore out his welcome in Toronto a bit, but he was also super good in New Jersey, especially that 1st year there. He played with fire again. He’s able to play now because he’s skilled and more than an athlete, but he’s not as good as he used to be obviously. Vince Carter was a supertalent, I loved his ability growing up.

ilike.panochasParticipantPeople will remember VC just as a high flyer, but he actually had a complete game offensively. He was a great shooter (38% career 3-Point shooter), he had a post up game, and can take anyone off the dribble. He was basically unguardable.

JNixonParticipantLmao. I literally just showed my girlfriend that video clip! The interviewer was sooo scared, that’s what made it even more funny. I had to google what happened, said he had the flu earlier in the week and with the stage lights being so hot combined with all the clothes he had on he got dehydrated. Had to go to the hospital when he regained consciousness.

NJHooper95ParticipantVince could have been one of the top 5 shooting guards ever. The guy was so talented that he left you wanting and expecting more. It didnt seem like he played hard enough. Jason kidd rejuvenated his love for the game in New Jersey and you saw a more competitive player. I think his talent at the shooting guard is as good as any player to ever play the game. But where does he rank in history in reference to the shooting guards. ANY ANSWERS?

I often say the same thing. Hist athleticism and skill level were outstanding but he didn’t maintain the intensity of a kobe Bryant or a Michael Jordan. He seemed to have that competitive edge when he first entered the league but after his third season he seemed to get complacent, started settling for jumpers instead of attacking the rim and never developed into the kind of defender it looked like he was capable of being. If he hadn’t plateaued in Toronto he probably would’ve racked up 8 straight 25+ PPG seasons and turned into a decent to good defender. His Hall Of Fame canidacy would be secure.
Unfortunately for him that is not the case. As far as shooting guards go throughout history I would rank 8 of them above him without question (MJ, Kobe, West, AI, Gervin, Wade, Drexler and Maravich). I would also place 5 other others above him (Ray Allen and Reggie Miller for the pure shooting, Sam Jones for his incredible team success and clutch play, Joe Dumars for his versatility and ability to play both ends of the floor very well, and Tracy McGrady for being more feared and more productive during his prime). For me VC belongs in the next level of shooting gaurds between #14-18 along with Earl Monroe, Hal Greer, Dave Bing and the player he most reminds me of: David Thompson.

aamir543ParticipantI am telling you, Vince Carter was on VED. Vertical Enhancing Drugs. His stats, reputation, attutude, and accomplishments might not get him into the Hall, but these dunks have to count for somthing.

PlatypusParticipantimagine if T-Mac stayed in Toronto with Vinsanity instead of leaving because Vince overshadowed him. If they would have kept Camby they couldve built around camby, vince, and t-mac.
