BC Donetsk got closer to complete its roster for the upcoming Turkish Airlines Euroleague Qualifying Rounds by inking shooting guard DeMarcus Nelson and big man Vitaly Kovalenko to respective one-year deals. Kovalenko (2.01 meters, 27 years old) arrives from BC Kyiv, where he averaged 10.6 points and 4.5 rebounds in 46 Ukrainian League games last season. He has also played for Cherkassy Monkeys and Budivelnik in Ukraine, as well as for Znicz Jaroslaw in Poland. Kovalenko has been a member of the Ukrainian national team. Nelson (1.93 meters, 25 years old) arrives from Cholet Basket, where he averaged 9.2 points and 3.3 rebounds in 10 Euroleague games last season. Nelson made a name for himself playing college basketball at the famed Duke University, where he was team captain for his senior year. He was also named the Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year and to the All-ACC First Team after the 2007-08 season. The next year Nelson played for Golden State in the NBA, averaging 4.1 points in 13 appearances, and for Austin and Bakersfield in the NBDL, where he posted 19.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 20 games. He also played briefly in Croatia for KK Zagreb that season. He joined Air Avellino in 2009-10 before making his Euroleague debut with Cholet last season. Donetsk also signed three players – Vadim Myakinin, Andrei Korochkin and Ilya Shemosyuk – to respective one-month deals, with an option to keep them for the entire season.
