Lotto StudParticipantWhy is it we fall in love with players that dominated earlier on I say in HS?
The LeBron James’, Dwight Howard’s, Sebastian Telfair’s, Greg Oden’s, Kevin Durant’s, O.J. Mayo’s, Brandon Jennings’, John Wall’s, Kyrie Irving’s, Austin Rivers’, Andre Drummond’s
It’s like everyone falls in love, whether it be from a performance, physical, or potential etc. standpoint. We as fans fall victim to loving guys over HYPE & tend to overlook underrated or better guys.
I really have no clue to why 1 takes it upon himself to ONLY fall in love with the top rated guys rather then the under the radar guys.
I would like to hear from you all……There is no right or wrong answer to this question, just something that I have been sitting on for a while.

Lotto StudParticipantBTW…..Majority of the guys I like in the NBA are not the stars on their teams…..I love those under the radar guys who make names for themselves eventually for everyone to rave about & hop on the wagon afterwards.

WizardofOzParticipantBecause people are always trying to find the next big thing. And they want to see them earlier than everybody else.

If he is rated Top 5 all he can do is go down….. He reached his peak as a prospect unlike a guy who is under the radar.
I don’t get that fascinated by a Top 5 guy as much as I USED to. A Top 15-20 guy is playing to PROVE something, majority are writing their abilities off, because they are not ranked in that Top 5-10 group.

MagikKnickParticipantBecause, if you’ve been hearing about how good a player was since he was 15, you wanna see how he continues to develop and grow as a player and a person..

So board the wagon strictly off HYPE……If that’s the case we ALL should love a guy who has been putting in work on youtube videos since he was 13 or so with ball handling drills etc.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantThere’s a HUGE difference between these so-called "prodigies" and guys who actually dominate high school. Guys like Lance Stephenson, Brandon Jennings, Greg Oden, and LeBron James became instant favorites, not because of their dunks and their ball-handling ability, but their ability to completely dominate AAU and high school games, where they are playing against the best players in the country and still dominating. Not just these 12 year old kids playing in their local rec league and dominating. Huge difference there.
It’s like saying, why are people so infatuated with Derrick Rose and Kevin Durant? Because they’re young and already this talented. We want to see how they progress and get better. We want to see what their career path will look like.

the I in winParticipantJust because a guy is a top 5 doesn’t mean he is closer to his peak. Perry Jones comes to mind.
