I was watching the 2011 All Star game, and I was suprised when one of the annoucers said it was Deron Williams’ second allstar game. A guy at times considered the best pg in the NBA has only been to two allstar games! I know the west was stacked with pgs but so is the east. Lets say the theoretically he keeps dropping 18ppg and 10ast for the next 4-5 yrs (He is 27 now) then starts to decline, and in the those 4-5yrs he makes 2 more allstar games and 2 all nba second teams. Also, he goes deep in the playoffs but never wins a nba title once he retires. Would these achievements be enough for HOF?

    Career Average season average (Theory)

    18ppg 10ast

    Career Playoff Average

    21ppg 9ast

    All Nba second team

    2008, 2010, 2013(Theory), 2014(Theory)

    2008 Gold Medal

    2007 Fiba Americas Gold Medal

U could probably argue that he doesn’t belong, but i think he does, he’s a great player and one of the most unguardable in the league. He been constantly stuck on bad teams so i would like to see him team up with another star player during free agency. If he is put in the right situation with another star and a good team around them your talking about a guy that could probably win a ring and be talked about a lil more as superstar point guard. Imo he us better then CP3 and Rondo because of his great size for the position and balance of scoring and assist he gives you. Juss my own personel ranking he is the number 2 point guard behind D.Rose in the league.

    My PG Rankings

    1 D.Rose

    2 D.Williams

    3 C.Paul

    4 R.Rondo

    5.R.Westbrook

4 or 5 more comparable years and some finals appearances or championship (s) will get him in.

I have been running some HOF threads here, not sure if you have seen them but I am about to do a new one for the young stars of today and their probability.

"He been constantly stuck on bad teams…"

Not accurate.  Look over the rosters for the Jazz teams he played on.  They weren’t overloaded w/talent like the Bulls or Heat, but w/o DWill they were still a possible playoff team in the tough west.

That said, DWill has been 100% deserving of @least 4 all-star star games.  The west was stacked w/pgs + Utah is just a tough market to make the all-star from–Salt Lake City (and surrounding areas) is only 1M pop.  IMO DWill is still the best pg in the NBA.  He’s not @ Rose’s level slashing, but he stretches the floor far better than Rose due to his 3-pt ability.  Plus, he’s a better defender than Rose.  That said, the top 3-5 pgs are very close right now and I don’t think it will be long before Rose/Wall/Westbrook/etc. are clearly superior. The potential of these young guys due to their athleticism is amazing.

It is early to consider him a lock, but he certainly seems to be on the right path. Obviously he has some work to do and more to accomplish, but he has had a fantastic first 6 years of his career. He and Chris Paul seem to be building a nice case for themselves, and if they continue as being marquee PG’s in the league for another 4-5 years (all indications seem to be that they will, as they have pretty much been doing so since their third year in the league), than I see a very solid case being made for both players.

I had a post that got nitpicked to no end, but it showed who I believed should be in the HOF by draft class (1992-2009). Of course the more recent players are stretches (Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose and Blake Griffin of course after ONE year), but all of them seem to be well on their way to making a STRONG case for HOF induction. Here is the post:

    http://www.nbadraft.net/forum/hall-fame-draft-class-1992-2009

These are the players who I think WILL make the HOF as Locks:

    • Shaquille O’Neal
    • Jason Kidd
    • Kevin Garnett
    • Kobe Bryant
    • Allen Iverson
    • Ray Allen
    • Steve Nash
    • Tim Duncan
    • Chauncey Billups (I have an affinity for Finals MVP’s)
    • Dirk Nowitzki
    • Paul Pierce
    • Manu Ginobili
    • Pau Gasol
    • Tony Parker
    • LeBron James
    • Dwyane Wade
    • Dwight Howard
    • Chris Paul (Predicition)
    • Deron Williams (Prediction)
    • Derrick Rose (Prediction)
    • Kevin Durant (Prediction)

These are the players marked as Possibilities, who I think can or will more than likely make it:

    • Alonzo Mourning
    • Chris Webber
    • Grant Hill (Coin flip)
    • Amare Stoudemire
    • Yao Ming (Because he is an incredible symbol and ambassador)
    • Carmelo Anthony
    • Chris Bosh (Who still has a lot left to prove, and will need to be an important player on title teams)

Finally, I listed some guys who look like they are well on their way to being HOF candidates chosen AFTER (I stated before, and can not edit unfortunately) the 2005 Draft. They all have a lot of work to do and need to accomplish much more before given consideration, but they all seem like they could eventually be in the discussion.:

    • Rajon Rondo
    • Russell Westbrook
    • Blake Griffin
    • John Wall

Deron was never on horrible teams, he was on undersized teams that went up against the Lakers or Spurs year in and year out who dominated their small front court. But he is definately on right path right now, plus I beleive there are going to be plenty more all-star games for him on the horizon now.

When i say bad teams i mean middle of the road teams that were good enough to make they playoffs but thats about it. Some of those Utah teams were pretty damn good but as we saw this season if you have to rely on Carlos Boozer as your 2nd guy then ur going to be disappointed. No he hasn’t been on horrible teams at all but i feel like to fairly judge him i would love to see him with a superstar player such as Dwight Howard, or the duo in New York. I feel like if he has a guy his caliber as a teammate also having a decent team around he could make them a serious championship contending team.

Injuries can kill a players career.

Tracy McGrady was on his way to the HOF, but injuries stop that.

Grant Hill also, but he still has a chance.

If you look at Hill and McGrady’s credentials, both have outstanding cases, and although they may not be first ballot locks, I think both will get in.

I think the thing that you will notice is that most of what has held Tracy McGrady back in these debates is that he never played on a team that made it past the first round. It is a crying shame, as when he was in his prime, he looked like an absolute HOF lock. I still think he has somewhat more of a career left, and one of the reasons I am so high on Grant Hill was his ability to eventually play a major supporting role on some solid Suns teams. Tracy could indeed make it eventually, but the fact that he never was playing on a team that got out of the first round is a factor you will not see for any of the players I have as locks on my list. Chris Paul, Derrick Rose, Kevin Durant and Deron Williams all have made runs past the first round, and that leads you to believe that they might not be done doing that.

I believe McGrady and Hill will make it ontheir later tries, they accomplished just enough that it will make up for their lost years.

That’s what I said, then I saw his credentials and realized that he may not be first ballot, all those injuries cost him.

But still, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him go in on the first ballot.
