akhan786ParticipantI was just musing over past NBA MVP winners and I noticed that every single MVP winner has gone on to the HOF.Of course there are some exceptions like those who are still in the NBA and those who just recently retired (Allen Iverson, Shaquille O’neal), but it got me thinking…does this mean Derrick Rose is a lock for the Hall of Fame?
Obviously it’s completely stupid and unfair to Rose to speculate whether someone who’s only played 3 seasons in the NBA will one day take his place next to the NBA greats, but still going by history Derrick Rose is as much a lock as any other 21 year old in the league.
What if say Rose gets a career ending injury (God forbid), and can’t play anymore. Is he still going to the HOF?In my personal opinion I say he does not, because making it to the HOF is supposed to be a mark of longevity and consistency. What are your opinions on what a player needs to do to get into the HOF?0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/17/2011 - 9:53pm #573203
Kinguy11ParticipantYou raise an interesting debate, but thing is, if his hypothetical injury comes in his 30’s he’s still probably going into the hall of fame. However, if it comes in the next couple of seasons it would not mark that his career was a good one as he would have played less than half a dozen games.

highflyer0ParticipantHe wouldn’t go to the hall of fame if his career ended right now, but he’d always be a Chicago legend.

Kinguy11Participanttghink about it a bit like this. If Greg Oden had a good first 3 seasons, wins and MVP and guides his team deep into the playoffs and then he had his long string of injurys now.
Do you think he’d get a hall of fame spot, I think not.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantIts Strange that Shaq was named 1 of The 50 Greatest Players of All Time..And he had only been in the league 3 or 4 years..Some said it was Conversial that he was named to the team in such a short span…So if Shaq’s career had ended in 1996..Would the same people that voted him to the 50 Greatest also vote him into the Hall?

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantHe would be another "what if" athlete and wouldn’t make it.

Jlv2011He will not get a career ending injury, only multiple championships and all star appearances.

ProudGrandpaParticipantAkhan has always been a Derrick Rose fan, buying into the hype before the mainstream public had even heard of him. He wants more than anything for him to become a Hall of Famer. However, as long as Rose is in the league, Akhan’s Milwaukee Bucks will never be able to make it to the NBA Finals. So he wants to know when the soonest moment is to maim Derrick Rose and render him incapable of playing ball, while still being able to see Rose make it into the HOF.

omphalosParticipantI think being the youngest ever MVP winner might get him in even if he has a career ending injury in the next few years. ROY, MVP, two-time All-Star already, and leading his team to best record in the NBA in just his third season, a case could be made that he’s already accomplished enough to be in consideration.

surveParticipanthe has the 8th most MVP shares of any active player and 4 out of those 8 are past their primes. what that says to me is, if he keeps producing the way he did last season, he will be in the top 5 MVP voting for many years to come.
