Now I know I am the first to bash bad trade ideas, but in the midst of the lockout with this forum less active than Eddy Curry, I thought of a decently bad trade idea. It’s Bargnani, James Johnson and Joey Dorsey for Brandon Bass, Ryan Anderson, and Chris Duhon.
Now, Orlando is giving up too much in this trade, I agree, but it all depends on what they think of Ryan Anderson. If they think he can become a guy that can get them 15 and 7 in 30 minutes, than maybe they are better off keeping him. If they think he won’t get any better, than maybe they should trade him.
I tried thinking of other scenarios, but nothing came to mind. In my opinion this is a huge gamble for Orlando, but It just might work. Granted Bargnani is a terrible defender, rebounder, and has no agression and is soft, granted Orlando loses some nice depth, but The reason I think they should pull this off is because I belive Dwight can help offset Barnani’s defensive deficencies, and remember what got them into the finals? Remember? Lewis and Turkgolu knocking down threes whenever Dwight got doubled. Now Anderson is also a great three point shooter, and shoots a high percentage and volume, but Bargnani also brings other attributes offensily to the table.
Again, if they believe Anderson will improve they should keep him, and I believe we all know what Bass is, a good tough, gritty guy, that can get you 11 and 6 in 25-30 minutes, and also gives you some energy. They are also getting James Johnson in return, who I believe has some potential
So although this may be a huge rist for Orlando, i believe that Bargnani will fit in great with their system, and hopefully they can get somthing going, and Bargnani can them a huge lift
Toronto also might give them a top 15 protected pick
Feedback appriciated, and also factor in how each player would play in a certain system.

Da1potParticipantToronto already has Ed Davis and Amir Johnson as their power forwards of the future so there is no reason to acquire two more……. This trade does not really benefit either team IMO.

steviechillzParticipantToronto loses a lot in this deal, but i like it for the magic. Magic get Bargnani who will fit perfectly into a orlando system that should play outside in with Dwight Howard. Bargnani’s trrue position is PF and in this trade, he will finally be able to move to that position. This guy fits the system bc he can stretch the floor for passing and driving lanes with his 3pt shot and can give them a solid 17ppg. Hopefully Dwight can get him to play defense and go for rebounds, this trade could revive his career. I also like the magic getting James Johnson who has ton’s of potential and will compete for first PF/SF off the bench with Earl Clark whenever next season starts.
I don’t like this for Toronto bc brandon bass and ryan anderson are a borderline starters at best. Both of them are solid bench guys, but toronto doesn’t need two more PF’s to go along with Amir Johnson, Ed davis.
Overall this trade will be awful for toronto bc they need solid starters not more bench guys. And the trade i believe would be very good for Orlando if Bargnani plays hard.

thparadoxParticipantOne of the better trade suggestions I’ve read.
2 issues
1) Andrea + Turkoglu make for an awful defensive pairing.
2) Toronto isn’t getting anything from the deal. (might be fixed with a 3rd team)
I think Calderon might actually be better for Orlando.

Bossy13ParticipantThats a terrible trade for the Raptors. It would leave them with zero small forwards, 3 point guards ( yes a team usually needs three pg’s but its not ideal for your third to have a three year deal for 3.5 mil per) and 4 power forwards. If they trade their leading scorer, and even take 50 cents on the dollar to get rid of his contract, they’d at least want pieces that fit with their current needs.

aamir543ParticipantOk, how about this one.
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=3pchd8r
I tried not to rob New Orleans, but that still may have happened. I gave the Raps Anderson instead of Bass cause he is 4 years younger and can spread the floor. If New Orleans somehow gets some more pieces, would this work for Toronto and Orlando?

Sonics96FinalsParticipantYo registered guy, how do you actually get the trade machine to work instead of uploading the player profile? I am having trouble actually manuvering players between trades. Could you help? Have some interesting ideas, yet I have no sense in how to operate the whole system. I’ll be back in ten, my trees are burning near the fan.

theTKOshowParticipantThis would be a disaster of a deal for the Raptors. I am a Raptors fan and watch almost every game they play and as much as i wanna scream when i see players blow by bargnani or see him look at rebounds instead of fighting for them, he is our offense. There are games when he is carrying us. Ppl forget about how talented he is offensively. He plays out of position at the centre position and since he is soft for a pf, its a even more noticable difference against c. a good system and improved team defense could hide his defensive defecencies and rebounding is all about wanting it more than the other guy. He needs a coach who will get him fired up to rebound more. Its exactly what colangelo said about how he may never be a better defender, but a 7ft tall, rebounding is just about putting the effort in. I especially dont like this trade because we got valanciunas coming in next year and he is exactly what you need beside bargnani. a centre who will rebound, defend and places close to the basket to allow bargnani to drift around all over the court. Plus what the raptors would be getting completely sucks, i wouldnt give up only bargnani for those 3 guys let alone throwing in johnson who showed some putential last game.
If I was an orlando fan, I would love this trade. you put a guy who can score from anywhere beside and his life becomes alot easier.

KHAM83ParticipantI’ll have to think if the Raptors move Bargnani to Orlando, they’ll have to get Jameer Nelson in return. Nelson/DeRozan makes a good backcourt, plus I think they can get Orlando to throw in a 1st rounder to make it happen. If Toronto is smart, Ill ask for a 2013 unprotected 1st rounder, incase Howard does indeed leave.
I still like Barnagni, but I think they should give all the young guys plenty of playing time to see who has talent. Ed Davis needs 30+, as well as Amir Johnson to earn his salary. I like Alibi as a defensive big who can rebound, but again, needs some PT. Johnson I think has potential as well, and Bayless I loved since Arizona. It’s tuff to say "throw a season away" but with or without Barns, your looking at a high draft pick, in a strong draft class. Again, I say give all the youngins PT to either devleope or showcase them. Next years draft class is loaded with PF and SF. Give Davis the opportunity to see if he’s your future guy at pf, if not, chase Drummond or Sullinger to pair with Valanciunas, if Davis looks like your guy, you can go after Barnes or Perry Jones at sf. If both Davis and Johnson shows they can be your startes, draft one of the talented pgs in the draft.
