valentinethough many wont admit to it, that is the way it really is, and you know deep down its the truth.
face it, the league is a black man’s sport no questions asked-90% of players are black.
They are saying that they are the entertainers and the top dogs-its about them-they need to get paid whether its the right value
owners are rich cocky white dudes-who will say that if it wasnt for them putting up the money-your butts would be playing for nothing in europe and asia-and they are out to prove they are the top dog,and will not lose money to overpay these spoiled athletes.

Memphis MadnessParticipantThe PLAYERS and the LEAGUE allows great players to get paid a lot of money and gives the NBA a great global brand. Most of the owners are mediocre at best. Mark Cuban is a great owner (a basketball junkie and he doesn’t mind spending money) but who else is really great?
If the NBA brand loses value then most NBA FRANCHISES won’t be worth as much. Really, how much would you pay to buy a team that loses $10-$20 million a year? The only thing keeping up the value of these teams is the great brand equity of the league and the popularity of the top NBA players.

andxxxParticipantWhat about the NFL labor issue and the NHL and MLB labor issues in the past? I agree race plays a part in many aspects of life, but the main issue for the NBA is about the CASH!! The money issue outweighs everything and is the basis for everything.

apb540ParticipantTruthfully, the labor mess is an overpaying role players and giving long, guaranteed contracts issue.
Seriously, AK-47 made $17.8 million last year. Elton Brand made $15.9 million. Even Kyle Korver at $5 million is rediculous. Those 3 players combined for $38.7 million and 35 ppg…
I really think, whether the players like it or not, the new CBA will have players like Korver making $2-3 million per year, Granger and Iggy like players around $6-7 million, and Superstars earning up to $12-13. Everyone else will fall in between. I hope the players realize the reality of the situation and just get a deal done.

ChrispyParticipantWhen the race card gets used unnecessarily it negates all the times that racism is actually present. By dropping the word "racism" into what is a financial and economic powerplay by both sides does diservice to those in the nation who have had careers derailed, jobs passed over, violence committed aaginst them, and real estate not sold to them because of REAL racism. Get a life redartrade.

Knicksboy3ParticipantAs a black dude, it’s far from the race card. The owners are paying all these guys too much money and they fail to earn money back in the process. I honestly think we needed this lockout, just to change some of contract idea, and I think we should have a hard cap.
There’s alot of unfair things that’s going on in the NBA ( teams 20 mil over the cap, stars grouping up, the Bird rights) that need editing.

boxn1ParticipantI think its a power trip. And last summer LBJ,Bosh,Wade, and Stat took the NBA hostage. No way Stern or the owners who didn’t get those guys liked that. Player movement has been a big part of players getting paid, and some over paid. If the league can control that, then you cant use other offers as leverage. The owners want things to go back to how they were in the early 80’s,where profits were good, players didn’t have a choice but to stay, and everything basketball being in their control.

aamir543Participant@Tol23, this thread may be absurd, but there is a very slight truth to, although I don’t hink it will affect much if anything regarding the lockout situation.
That "Chicago Bulls must rebuild" thread was pretty awfull. That guy didn’t even try to explain his thoughts in a civilized manner. He just thought he was right because he was himself. To be honest that thread made me want to report that guy to the police. I think it’s dangerous to have people like that running loose.

M-DYMESParticipantWow, how can you even contemplate that as the logic behind this lockout?
TRUTHFULLY…
I’ve stated it before…the obstacle that this lockout presents is developed by the fact that this is a 3 sided war, at the minimum…
1. The new money owners
2. The old money owners
3. The players
Of course you have the battle between players v. owners in general (which is far from a racial issue GTFOH), but you also have the old owners (guys who purchased teams far back for less money and either own them completely or have a very strong majority share) v. the new owners (guys who invested a ton of new money into these teams and don’t even have full ownership of them in most cases).
These new owners invested tons of money, and are finding out, the ROI (return on investment) is far from glamorous in most cases. Often these owners are infact losing money when considering inflation and the state of te economy. Guys like Sterling should not be owners in the league. If you want to own an NBA team, you should be in it for the thrill of owning a team, affiliation with the NBA/team, competitive spirit, fame, or opportunity to win a title. The guys who own these teams have plenty of money and should be in it for sheer sportsmanship, b/c if you are in this for profit, it was a poorly chosen investment. With that type of money you’d be much better off accumulating stock or even starting a business (something that is very risky in itself).
