CalipariParticipantWouldn’t it be something to see the Celtics swoop in and grab Austin Rivers next year, assuming he’s low lottery. Not saying that is should happen or that it will, only raising the possibility.
What a storyline. I don’t think there is a precedence for this in the NBA.
Sounds like a movie script, championship coach tabs his son to help lead the charge back to prosperity. By that time his primary mates for the future will likely be Green and Rondo.
Granted, Rivers is more of a combo guard, and next to Rondo they could be taken advantage of by bigger backcourts, but the possibility is intriguing.
Thoughts?

MagikKnickParticipantWont happen, Celtics wont be as good, but their pick’ll likely be early 20s, while Rivers likely wont leave the lottery
But I agree, it’d be a cool story line..

ilike.panochasParticipantGood storyline, but Celtics wont pick high enough to have a chance at Austin. Hes a top 10 pick lock, Celtics would basically have to be one of the worst teams in the East to have a shot at him.

Chilbert arenasParticipantCeltics could trade up or Rivers could have a disappoint season and leave too early and they could grab him right outside of the lottery. But EXTREMELY unlikely!

ChriJollParticipantThe celtics own the latter of the picks the clippers have right now if I’m not mistaken.
(I believe top 10 protected)
So if the clip manage to play their way into late lottery contention you neve know how things could end up.0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/07/2011 - 1:02pm #565408

aamir543Participant@MagicKnick, I agree it looks like Rivers won’t leave the lottery, but didn’t we say the same thing about Josh Selby? And not only did he leave the lottery, he left the first 48 picks. Anything is possible!

khaled_a_dParticipantCeltics receive the Clippers’ 2012 first-round pick, via Thunder (Eric Bledsoe trade) (top 10 protected in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015, unprotected in 2016. In 2012, the Celtics would receive the lesser of the Clippers first-round pick or the T’Wolves’ first-round pick (Marko Jaric trade)) (Jeff Green trade 02-24-11)
http://www.nbadraft.net/2012mock_draftThe Clippers was the 8th worst team last 2 years
so I actually see them being competitive enough to be in the mix for the 8th seed next year but won’t make it considering how strong the west is
In other words I actually think that the Celtics has very good chance to have a pick between 11-14 ,which many draft sites thinks it is his range
That said,I think the tough decision will be picking him or not, actually it would be tough for the kid if Ainge decided to pass on him0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/07/2011 - 3:33pm #565424
