Renounce the cap hold on Kris Humphries? That gives the Nets 16 million to play with and go after Nene hard!… A Williams, Nene and Lopez would be nice…. Plus gives them one of the better PF/C combos.

That would be a pretty bad rebounding combo. Brook Lopez averaged like 5.5 rebounds per game while nene average like 7.7. Getting only 13 rebounds from your starting PF and C is pretty bad. thats less rebounds(lopez and nene’s together) than Kevin Love had and Dwight Howard.  Kris Humphries is actually better than Nene if you ask me. 10 and 10 beats 15 and 7 plus Humphries is younger.  I mean its not terrible if you want more scoring but it sounds like a step backwards in the Rebounding department.

As a Nets fan it’s really hard to even talk about BBall with the lockout.

Is hump an unrestricted FA? If not then he can sign anywhere without any rights to denounce. I think he’s a good player that meshes well with Lopez. But I also think that with Kim K in his ear he’s going to want too much money for what he does.

Nene, I have not seen enough of him but isn’t he more of a center? I think maybe Lopez can play the PF position like Duncan did and use Nene at the center. That would take a lot of pressure off Lopez to bang with the big boys and concentrate on rebounding and scoring like Duncan does. Lopez is a bit behind the curve due to terrible player development and his illness last season.

David West might be the best option if he is 100% healthy which I question. By the time the lockout is over and the season starts which if it does will probably be late he could be back 100%. But with the new cap can the Nets afford either?

The Nets biggest issue is the SF position. That’s a place that needs a young athletic player who can score and play defense. Break down a defense by driving to the basket. A guy with some size or game that if left unaccounted for because of DWill and Lopez can and will kill you. But who would that be? Since there is nobody for that I would love to see Tayshaun Prince in a Net uniform along with West or Nene, if not Prince then maybe a sign and trade for Wilson Chandler. Do we then have enough cap space to sign Hump or even Glen Davis as a backup?

That would be a competitive team for a championship IMO.

DWill/Farmar…..Morrow/Brooks………Prince or Chandler/James…….Nene or West/Hump or Davis/ Jordan Williams……Lopez/ Petro…..with Vujacic probably moving on and Outlaw really needing to step it up as their 3 point specialist and stretch 4 I think that would be a formidable team once they get time together and are healthy. That’s plenty of scoring and from different places, good rebounding and it’s a matter of getting them to play defense which I think DWill and Avery Johnson can motivate the rest. Players like Nene and Prince would not need motivation for much of anything, they want to win and know what it takes.

But the Nets might have to find a way to move Outlaw and his contract to make the other signings possible. As soon as they can you know King will be on the phone 24/7.

Hump is unrestrited FA, but if they want to use the money that he opted out from they need to renounce his rights.

Nene and Brook are booth Centers case closed. Look at how many PF are perimeter players now. They would get destroyed, they need to resign KHump, he is improving anyways.

Nene is pretty fast for a center, he is able to guard most inside oriented PFs in the league. He would suffer to guard strech 4s and has no jump shot whatsoever, I wouldn’t play him at PF.

AgentZero, Nene scores 15 at an amazingly efficient rate(.1 better than Humphries), that is why people consider him so highly. You can feed him the ball in the low post and he can create his shot down low. Humphries can’t do that. Also, I think all this rebounding by Humphries has a lot to do with Lopez’s extremely bad rebounding.

Having said that, I don’t think the Nets should sign Nene, because I think he’ll be extremely overpaid this offseason, so keeping Humphries(who is an OK starter) may be the best solution.

Nene’s rebounding should have no bearing on their decision. He averaged 7.6 but only played 30.5 minutes; that’s 9 per 36 minutes, and with a frontcourt that included Melo and K-Mart. When Melo left he averaged 9 per game unadjusted. He’s a fine rebounder.

That’s what I am saying, in today’s game the definition of a PF and C is very different for every team. Some teams don’t even have a true center in the way of traditional centers, not only in terms of size.

Can Nene and Lopez do well together, I think they might with clearly defined roles. I watched the Nets and Hump did a bit of a David Lee on Lopez, taking up rebounds to pad his stats because he’s a free agent. Also hump cannot consistently score inside, he plays below the rim and his shot is blocked or many times he cannot make the shot because of a defensive presence. Many shots other players would have made he missed. So Hump has some offensive deficiencies in the paint. It’s matter of athleticism as much as technique. But he’s a big body and is improving. Just don’t over pay for him.

Really what is a power forward and a center. We know the traditional roles from the past. But this last season I have seen so many teams have their own roles for their big men depending on their individual abilities and their schemes or lack of one for so many teams who are poorly coached.

Nene was the nuggets only rebounder and his numbers were a bit inflated. Think about it. K-mart is a pretty bad rebounder and once melo left we had only Nene and K-mart to rebound.  We gave up so many offensive rebounds to the thunder that it cost us every game in that series.  We gave up 7,17,11,12,16 offensive rebounds in that series.  He is overrated and Melo was our best rebounder all of last season until he was traded.  David West would be a much better choice being a 20 and 10 or so guy at the 4 spot.
