laarethekingsParticipantOk so who do you boys think will be the worst team in the NBA next season? Giving them the best shot a number 1 overall….
My pick are the Bobcats….
Maybe be the Hornets if they lose West and Landry.

TyroberParticipantWell considering the Raptors wont have Jonas V. coming over this year I would think they will still be pretty bad.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantLooking at the roster of all 30 teams..It appears that Charlotte has the less talent…They have the best chance to gain the most ping pong balls..But sometimes having the best record doesnt guarantee you the 1st pick…
But even if they end up at number 4..They’re still get an all star caliber player, becuz the 2012 draft is so deep…

TimbosliceParticipantJust by looking at the rosters, I wonder if Charlotte would have trouble with uk or unc next year… It looks like they’ll be awful

Memphis MadnessParticipantCharlotte should be pretty bad. New Orleans might be really bad too. And I don’t actually see the Cavs getting that many more wins this year. Other than the huge 26 game losing streak the Cavs were fairly competitve. They were playing for pride after they lost LeBron. Well, they don’t have that this year. I don’t think they will lose 26 in a row I don’t think they will be THAT much better and they could even be slightly worse. 20-25 wins might be the win total for the Cavs next year. If Irving gets a ton of minutes I think they will be slightly worse at point guard (if Baron Davis sulks, watch out). Plus, they have 2 power forwards as their two best young guys.
The Wizards got a great point guard last year, but it didn’t help their win total that much. They actually LOST 3 more games. Same thing could happen with the Cavs. I think the Wizards will get more highlights but I think they might only win 25-27 wins.
I think the four worst teams will be Charlotte, Cleveland, Washington, New Orleans and then a wild card team. Probably the Pistons. Probably not incredibly horrible but 30 wins would be good for them. I think Minny improves their win total by about 10 games and should win between 27-32 games next year.
I think Houston slips some with Utah and Sacto fighting for that last playoff spot out west. … I don’t really see the Clippers being that much better since they didn’t add anything much in the draft, and I think Mo Williams doesn’t bring the same energy to the Clips that Baron Davis did. If they don’t add any big pieces the Clippers really only have Blake Griffin and Eric Gordon along with a bunch of mediocre players. They might win a few more games (or they might not) but I don’t see them making the playoffs. The Blake Griffin Honeymoon might be over. Maybe teams have figured out how to play him (ummm, don’t let him dunk on you? Put him on the line. Make him try to beat you by hitting Dirk-esque 15 foot jumpers. Is Blake the new new thing, or just a Dwight Howard clone without the shot blocking skills and a slightly worse rebounder?)
I can see the Bobcats, Pistons, and Clippers getting the top 3 picks next year. The Cats are due and won’t be too good. The Pistons are due for a great pick too, and I don’t see them going anywhere next year, but they will have a nice young core. It will be in Detroit’s best interest to get rid of some of their veterans and try to bottom out. I like Greg Monroe. I like Brandon Knight. Jerebko and Korver should be solid role players. Ben Wallace is good as an elder statesman. Other than that keep either Stuckey or Will Bynum. And keep either Charlie V or Ben Gordon. Other than that, they need to get rid of everyone else. … and hold onto Terrico White who is really tearing it up in the Bluff City Classic.
The Wizards get better (hopefully) and won the lottery last year. Toronto is never lucky, well, not in a good year with great rookie talent. Cleveland got really lucky this year (actually the Clippers pick did) and had the 1st and 4th pick and didn’t really do much with those two picks. They didn’t get one of the top 3 or 4 big men, and they got a point guard who didn’t really separate himself from Brandon Knight, Kemba Walker, or even Jimmer Fredette. I think they get around the 6th or 7th pick (the 3rd or 4th worst team but don’t have the luck this year) and will actually debate on drafting Jared Sullinger who might actually be the best player on the board with that pick.
With the 1st and 4th picks the Cavs should have solidified themselves as one of the up and coming young teams in the league. I don’t think they did that. Now they must hope that they get lucky again and get a top 3 pick. But, with the way the Cavs drafted I don’t think the 2012 draft will be that great for them. Most projected top picks are tweener forwards who don’t look as good as Derrick Williams, power forwards like Jared Sullinger (the Cavs already have two), then some point guards/combo guards like Austin Rivers (who might have to convert to point guard in the NBA), Myck Kabongo, and Kendall Marshall. The Cavs need a center, but there really aren’t any, unless they like Tyler Zeller. They also need a legit shooting guard but it looks like the 6’4 Brad Beal and the 6’5 Jeremy Lamb are the best bet. Austin Rivers might be a score-first combo guard (not a true 2 guard) who may or may not fit in with Kyrie Irving. … Harrison Barnes would be a solid pick (probably not a superstar but he could be an all-star) but the Cavs will need a top 3 pick to get him.

HaleParticipantI don’t think getting the number 1 pick in the 2012 draft is going to be all that great. It’s just that the overall depth is amazing and you can get a great prospect even at pick 20 or higher, as opposed to this year when at pick 5 the talent was running low.

kevnix5ParticipantThe Timberwolves should improve their win total but as a Clippers fan I hope they don’t. The Bobcats are obviously going to be horrible and the Cavs probably won’t improve much. I think the Toronto Raptors could be the worst team in basketball next year though. Unless they can move Bargnani/Calderon and bring in some immediate help they will most likely regress this year. Bargnani is going to get fed up with Toronto (maybe already has) and Toronto is going to get fed up with him (definitely already have). The 3 teams with the best chance to get the No. 1 pick should be Toronto, Cleveland and Charlotte.

HitsterParticipantCharlotte have never had the top pick and if we assume that Biyombo is some way off and minus Jackson then they may struggle so could be a lottery contender again.
Toronto again could well struggle if Jonas does not come over.
Cleveland may improve but if they trade Jamieson then Thompson will need time as will Irving so whilst they may improve I don’t see them much over 30 wins.
NOH could really struggle if West goes and if they decided to trade CP3 then they would be very strong lottery contenders.
The T-Wolves anything could happen but again 30 plus wins would surprise me.
I hate to say it but my team Phoenix might regress if Hill retires/moves on and with Nash going to turn 38 next season but ideally they are not too bad and get lucky in the lottery.
Other teams could vary a lot and obviously off season moves will play a big part.
Fun idea is a total lockout and season 2011-12 is scrubbed how would you organize next year’s draft lottery?

IndianaBasketballParticipantThat’s why I’m so excited. I don’t have the Clippers making the playoffs, so I think they’ll have two lottery picks in a loaded draft. So many options.
That’s why I didn’t care so much about the pick they gave up for Baron in this draft.

mikeyvthedonParticipantWell, we have some bad teams on the horizon. Charlotte, when you look at their current roster, will probably be going through some major growing pains. If they plan to play Biyombo minutes, they are in trouble. The Raptors also should be fairly dreadful, even with more than likely notable improvement from DeRozan, Davis and possibly Bayless. I think you throw in the Cavs as well, they are going to keep struggling, should be better than this past year, but they will struggle.
That being said, here are 10 teams likely to NOT make the Play-offs next year, in no particular order:
1. Toronto
2. Charlotte
3. Cleveland
4. Detroit
5. Minnesota (we all know that pick is going to the Clippers)
6. Sacramento
7. Golden State (Do not care what Mark Jackson says. Unless they make a big trade, it is not happening)
8. Washington
9. Phoenix (I think they are successfully, done.)
10. New Orleans (I think West is gone, and Paul is begging for a trade)
Those would be the top 10 teams I see getting the first pick in the draft, and I think Toronto and Charlotte being the two worst teams right now. I think Houston would be my last team out that 10. I feel the Clippers, Jazz and Nuggets will be fighting for the 8 seed in the West, and New Jersey, Milwaukee and Indiana will have that same battle in the East. The only difference is, I think the West could see two new play-off teams, whereas the East will probably only have one. Still, this draft will be a major helper too some teams, and the expectations for the top few picks will be MUCH higher. I ran a lottery simulator, will fill in with where I see teams finishing, here is a WAY too early Mock Draft:
1. Harrison Barnes, Toronto Raptors (Comes down to need, and I think the 1st pick will be between Barnes and Anthony Davis)
2. Anthony Davis, Sacramento Kings (This would be a jackpot)
3. Quincy Miller, LA Clippers (From Timberwolves. I see Quincy as being a wing guy at the next level, and the Clippers loving this scenario)
4. Perry Jones, Charlotte Bobcats (Would be there PF of the future, plus with his and Biyombo’s length, could be ridiculous. Also, difficult to score, though Perry might finally assert himself.)
5. Mike Gilchrist, Detroit Pistons (Tayshaun Prince will be long gone, and Mike will be there SF of the future. I was thinking of Sullinger here, but he and Monroe in the front court could kill them athletically.)
6. Austin Rivers, Cleveland Cavaliers (Irving and Rivers do have a chance to play together, and become a very exciting future backcourt tandem)
7. Jared Sullinger, Golden State Warriors (If Mark Jackson wants immediate help, this would be the guy. I think the W’s could struggle next year, and while this would be a tumble, Sullinger might give them a new hope in the paint.)
8. Bradley Beal, Phoenix Suns (I believe that the Suns will have a tough time finding a go-to scorer, and they get one in Brad Beal. This guy can shoot, and has great potential as a scorer, even at the next level.)
9. Jeremy Lamb, Washington Wizards (People are high on the Wizards wings, but I am not. Give them Lamb and Wall gets an ideal guard to run with.)
10. Terrence Jones, New Orleans Hornets (I realize they could be picking even higher, especially if or when they lose Chris Paul, but Jones would be a nice building block, a versatile combo that would start things off right. I do not think this is the draft to take PG’s, though if they did, Myck Kabongo might get a look. Marquis Teague and Kendall Marshall also seem like possibilities)
11. John Henson, Houston Rockets (Have a feeling the Rockets would probably be looking to trade this pick in this scenario, but Henson has more upside than anyone at this portion of the draft. This team has a lot of young 4’s, but they might indeed just package them and focus on developing Henson, who has RIDICULOUS length and a developing post game.)
12. Doron Lamb, Indiana Pacers (This guy can get buckets, and while they did just trade for George Hill, I still see them as wanting to find a solution at the 2. Regardless, Lamb would give them a nice scoring punch.)
13. Thomas Robinson, Milwaukee Bucks (Strong PF who I see becoming a probable lottery selection. The Bucks still will probably need help on the boards, and might want some more bulk down low, which Robinson would provide)
14. Myck Kabongo, Utah Jazz (The Jazz may have gotten two players in the lottery, but they still need a player to run the show. I am guessing they get rid of Devin Harris at some point, and even if he is still around that they look for a replacement. It is hard for me to say the Clippers are a much better team, but they have Blake Griffin and Eric Gordon. Add that up with a decent group of ringers, than I think they can eek the Jazz out of a play-off spot.)

Lotto StudParticipantI may sound like a loser for this but I pray we get into the Lotto Top 10 just to keep him around.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantWhen you look up & down the Pistons roster..They really have some good players..Hamilton is still capable of giving you 20 a night,Prince is still 1 of the most all around players..Greg Monroe will be among the most improved players next year.. And bench Scoring isnt a problem, with guys like Gordon & Charlie V…..Their problem is moving the ball, shot blocking and defense….Right now they have no indentity nor do they have any chemistry..If if they get a coach that can restore that defense 1st into the players..They’ll be in the mix for a 7th or 8th seed….

Chilbert arenasParticipantLet’s just ask David Stern by mid-season, he’ll know what team needs it the most.

HitsterParticipantWhen you see Michael Gilchrist and Austin Rivers both outside of this site’s 2012 mock draft you realise just how deep this draft is. I think that former Phoenix GM Steve Kerr said that the 2008 draft had guys outside the lottery who other years would have gone top 5 so next year could shape up rather like that.
If you get a top 5 pick next year then you should not be able to miss.
NJ for next year I’d peg at anything from say 32-35 wins up to 42 to 45 wins depending on who they bring in and if Deron plays the whole season so they could be a possible lottery team up to a play off team.
