The Knicks took Iman Shumpert with Chris Singleton still on the board and paid for Josh Harrellson with Jeremy Tyler still on the board. Well, let’s move on.  With those picks in there, I’m saying Shumpert cracks the rotation and Harrellson is sent to the NBDL. Here’s what I think the Knicks should do right now.

    • Chauncey Billups, Landry Fields, 3 mil and Ronny Turiaf to Atlanta for Josh Smith, Kirk Hinrich and Zaza Phacuila

Let me explain before you give me negatives. The Hawks need to make a change. With locking into both Joe Johnson and Al Horford, they have two and Josh Smith is the only guy you can really change up. Billups and Turiaf is a combined 18 million off the books for Atlanta in 2011, plus you add Landry Fields, who can replace Jamal Crawford The Knicks, while they want Chris Paul, can settle for Smith, who can play defensively opposite Amare Stoudemire and Kirk Hinrich, who’s a solid point guard. Phachila can help us as a backup center as well.

    • Free Agents: Kenyon Martin, J.R. Smith, Soloman Jones and Ronnie Price

Kenyon Martin should be a cheap post player who can come in and help the Knicks off the bench, maybe even get some starts. J.R. Smith could start for the Knicks as a offensive threat. Ronnie Price can be our 3rd point guard and Soloman Jones could be a garbage time guy.

    Rotation

    • Kirk Hinrich
    • J.R. Smith
    • Carmelo Anthony
    • Josh Smith
    • Amare Stoudemire

    Reserves

    • Toney Douglas
    • Iman Shumpert
    • Kenyon Martin
    • ZaZa Pachulia

    Thoughts?

I dont like Amare at Center for large portions.  They need to get a big man that can bang and give Amare some rest.  That is key to their success.

Im not sure why you do these imaginary trade scenarios, but this one is horrid. The Nuggets wouldn’t do that trade even if Dvid Kahn himself was running the team

That’s what K-Mart and Zaza are for, they can come in and bang next to Stoudemire.

He did? I was almost sure he went behind him. I didn’t see him get drafted on TV, that must be it. My bad.

Nuggets have nothing to do with this.

Amare at Center won’t work unless its against teams with small Centers.

Knicks definately need a Center and Josh Smith isn’t the answer we don’t need more guys who take 3’s for no reason.

I hate Zaza, he is a troublemaker and Hinrich sucks. I respect your idea though.

For the record, Jeremy Tyler may have been selected ahead of Josh Harrellson but we could’ve simply bought the rights of Tyler as the Warriors did. Bad move by the Knicks.

if anything i was hoping knicks picked up faried at 17. yes that would mean amare at center, but faried is monster on glass and got harrellson who i think will become a solid role player/starter for them down the line.. im not sold on shumpert, but time will tell

Real Talk Real, picking Faried at 17 doesn’t mean that he’d start. In fact, most of the guys picked this late in the draft have historically been bench players. As a rookie, I would expect him to come off the bench anyway on a team looking to contend.

And in an ideal world, I would like to see the Knicks re-invest in this draft and perhaps purchase/trade for the rights to guys like Nikola Vucevic, Darius Morris, Malcolm Lee and Adam Hanga (59th pick of the Spurs that I’m confident will become a household name in the distant future). This may have not been a particularly star-studded draft but they have solid role players, which is exactly what this team needed. Best of all, they come fairly cheap and will allow us to focus our mid-level exception on a stellar bench player/average starter as opposed to dividing it up amongst several mediocre players.

As for trades, I’d actually like to see the Knicks package Toney Douglas and $3 million for Xavier Henry. Henry is a shooting guard that is a lefty marksmen from deep thatcan defend the ball fairly well. He can certainly could start for our team. With the mid-level exception, I’d look to acquire Samuel Dalembert, which would help round out the starting lineup.

The Knicks really need a center, too bad that Vucevic wasnt available at 17, now they really need to make a move for Dalembert, but the rumors are that he’s going to Miami, and with the new CBA they will probably dont have enought cap space to make a move for Chris Paul if they overpay one of the FA Centers as Nene, Marc Gasol, Chandler or DeAndre Jordan, or take a risk at Oden or Ming.

Complex situation for them, and dont have enought assets to trade for a good starting center. An Earl Barron and Jerome Jordan center is the most possible move for next year, but that wont be enough for a long playoff run.

im pretty confident well land cp3 but thts a different conversation.

i like shumpert. i hope he can develope into a great defender. he has potential to stop the 1,2and the 3. thats going to be crucial if were looking to win a title. i dont know much about Harrellson, so i guess hell get sent down to the dleague. this draft was about premetiter defenders. the only two choices tht i belive the knicks were thinking about were singleten and shumpert. well get our big men in FA. we have jerome jordan coming in who would be a first round draft pick in this draft. and there is a plethera of big men who can bang, rebound and play D.

i see this as the rotation for the upcoming season(if there is one)

    Starters

    billups/fields/melo/amare/vet big out of FA

    Reserves

    douglass,shumpert,walker,williams,,turiaf,jerome jordan

Sorry Nard But Henry was clueless when it came to guarding SG. He is too slow to guard that position.

Also he shot 12 percent form the 3 point line

As far as Landing CP#..not sure how they will afford that one with the NEW CBA( even with this CBA).Thats now a pipe dream
