Verbal_KintParticipantAfter the Warriors draft, it seems clear that Monta Ellis is out, and their biggest need is a legit big man. How about: Monta Ellis, Dorrell Wright, Ekpe Udoh, and some future firsts for Dwight Howard? The salaries match, and I was thinking of putting someone else in for Wright, but people would have chased me with pitchforks saying it wasn’t fair.
I think it’s a pretty good trade. It leaves Orlanda with assets similar to the Deron Williams trade, possibly even better. The only question is: 1. Would Orlando accept it? and 2. Would Dwight sign an extension here?
The Golden State starting line-up would look like this:
Stephen Curry
Reggie Williams
Klay Thompson
David Lee
Dwight HowardBench guys: Al Thornton, Jenkins, Biedrins, Jeremy Tyler
It’s basically the same formula as Orlando: surround Dwight with a bunch of shooters. The difference is, this team actually has a legit PF. It wasn’t long ago that Lee was a 20-10 guy. This team, I believe, is worth of a "big three" label with Curry, Lee, and Howard. The only concern is the perimeter defence, and maybe the rookies being projects, but with Curry and Dwight, they won’t be relied on much. If they can get some scrappy vets like a Shane Battier type to glue this team together, they would be pretty good I think.

BasterdInABasketParticipantDwight is more of a professional than Carmelo and Deron Williams. Hes not gonna put Orl in that same position, he wants to be in Orlando, the Magic just have to do their part and put a team around him so any Dwight trade seems unrealistic at this point.

BBall4life88ParticipantYeah just trade Howard to GS for Ellis….good one.
You must be dreaming or playing NBA 2k11 because this doesn’t happen in reality…wake up Warriors fan

Verbal_KintParticipantIt seems like the Magic are filled with untradeable assets, so it’s gonna be hard for that team to get better. He said he would leave if they didn’t make changes, and it’s gonna be tough. It seems like Dwight is the only tradeable asset on the team.
BBall4life88, I don’t know if you have a disorder where you can only read the first name in a post or something, but I threw in other pieces too. Dorrell Wright is a good player on the rise. You don’t have to be a Warriors fan (which I am not) to know his name.

evanlayParticipantfor the warriors this would be genius, and offering a bunch of great assets. the only problem is nobody wants Monta Ellis. He’s like Allen Iverson in my opinion; fantastic player and scorer, but not the kind of player that fits well with a team.

LOFTYParticipanti figured you would have more people agree with you on this one. i dont think howard is gonna stay, just like d will was NOT gonna stay. orlando is getting some good players and future first rounders. i think if howard wants to leave this is a great deal for all. if you guys dont think its a good offer tell me what you think is……. OR BE SCREWED LIKE CLEVELAND!

nateoak10ParticipantWe cant trade future 1sts due to a trade clause with NJ and our GM has described Klay as a good 3rd guard for us , same goes for the rest of the FO (but Jerry West, who was the guy who mainly pulled the trigger here, butting heads with our GM) . West is the guy trying to get Monta out and Klay in, it seems like the others see him as a 3rd guard

BBall4life88ParticipantLol i saw that you said Dorrell Wright, Ekpe Udoh, and some future firsts…. but Dorrell Wright and Ekpe Udoh are role players and are almost non factors, it’s basically Monta for howard + some role players. I know Wright had a good year but he’s just an add on that won’t impact the likelihood of this trade, GS would have to give up more.

Verbal_KintParticipant@BBall Role players are role players. If you look at the trades for Melo and Deron, what did the teams get back? Role players (Favors is one for now). Nothing more, and nothing less. Monta is actually better than a role player I would say, so looking at previous precedent, I think it’s pretty similar to those trades. You’re making Dorrell Wright sound like a scrub, which he isn’t. If you think his numbers were inflated because of the system, then would have stayed a 20-10 guy coming in from NY, but he didn’t. The system didn’t help Dorrell as much as people think.

evanlayParticipant@BBall4life88 Ekpe Udoh was a rookie last year, give him time and he may develop. he has potential.

Verbal_KintParticipantAlright, but with all that aside, would you do this trade? I think it would be cool seeing Curry and Howard together. Ig they stay put though, that guard rotation is tight. Klay could spell both Ellis and Wright off the bench. The only weakness for you guys would be the 5. This trade would get you the 5, and solidify the interior defence. It would also make it a nice attraction for other FA’s. If I was a scrappy wing defender looking for a young team to join, I would definitely look at this one.
Edit: This post was meant for nateoak, the actual GS fan.

nateoak10ParticipantOh hell yes I do that trade , but the deph chart is jacked up, Reggie W likely is gone and we’d sign a SF if this happens. Maybe like Prince or someone like that, and Thorton may be gone too

burningfloodParticipantI’d give my left testicle and sell all my future children if this trade went down. We’d be getting a top 5 player in the league, AND we wouldn’t have to take on any bad contracts? Sign me up. Verbal_Kint, please find some way to make Otis Smith disappear and become the Magic GM…
And Nateoak is right about the whole first round pick trade situation…stupid Mullin and his love for Marcus Williams the laptop thief…
Isn’t Reggie an RFA? We can match any offer.

vcelts123ParticipantWhat’d be an even more killer combo is nj to get dwight. Just think, deron williams and dwight howard. Only problem is their best offer would be brook lopez, jordan farmer, maybe some role players and a draft pick or two. Come to think about it, with that crazy Russian running the show, he might just be able to pull it off. If he can, I’d give him some big props.
Anyways, as for this trade? I don’t think so. Orlando won’t do it. They can get more than monta ellis out of it. Although if they get in a three team trade, maybe they would give up Dwight for monta ellis and derrick williams/beasley.

PulseGlazerParticipantIf I’m the Magic, the Nets #1, Brook, and Marshon is a far better deal than the Warriors pooh pooh platter, especially since the Nets could likely work it out to take on Arenas or Hedo. The Lakers and Clippers could likewise do better than the Warriors (Bynum is better than anyone the Warriors can offer, Clips have DeAndre Jordan, Eric Gordon, and Minn’s #1 next year).
If the Warriors want in on Dwight, it would obviously need to involve both Steph Curry and Andre Biedrins. It still isn’t enough, but it’s far, far closer than Ellis and some role players.
