The so-called “experts” weigh in on NBA comparisons

Bad comparison..Wagner and Kyrie complete opposite. Wagner Avg 42 pts a game in high school. He was compared to Iverson. A lot stronger and athletic to Kyrie. Not knocking Kyrie but thats a bad comparison. Even the Tyrus Thomas one, Johnson is a better shooter and more fundamental, Thomas was just athletic.

They aren’t experts. they’re bloggers… and yes, they sounded pretty stupid.

Also, Dajuan Wagner never reached his potential because of injuries. The guy worked his butt off but got unlucky. Don’t hate.

Even most experts aren’t experts. They don’t go to school for it or take classes they just go out,watch a player and give there opinion. No different then a fan who watch’s alot fo basketball and knows basketball

 These NBA "experts" are always sooo wrong.  The make predictions and then never admit when they are wrong.  Watching and reading espn is soo annoying.  I think most people on this forum are more legit and stand by their predictions and admit when they are wrong than espn.  Jon Barry and Jalen Rose are two that come to mind that are pretty legit.  Wilbon seems to just sweat magic and agree with him about 95% of the time and magic is just an uncle tom tryin to fit in.  He is such a fake person, speically after he wrote what he wrote about Isiah…he still never responded to Isiah after he wrote that book.  Isiah was his boy and he sold him out cuz everyone was/is on Isiah.  So these comparisons espn makes…its no different than their analysis…for everyone 1 time they are right they are wrong 50 times.  But they blow up that 1 time they were right and never ever mention again the 50 times they were wrong.  Stop lookin pretty in front of the cameras!!

Wagner is more of a injury bust than a Darko type bust

Wow, I was watching the 1996 draft and I was able to barely catch 30 seconds of the analysis of Kobe. they were comparing him to MJ already! I dont know who it was, but someone said Jordan doesn’t his teamates better, but Kobe does.

 The Jimmy Butler comparison to James Posey might seem pretty meaningless because it’s not saying a lot for his potential, but after reading all the Butler stories regarding how he grew up, I am excited that experts see him having a 10 year career, he deserves it, seems like everything that is right with sports.

In a draft context…. we’re trying to make better decisions on who to draft. You can’t evaluate a decision just based on whether a player turned into a star or not. You can only evaluate it based on the information you have at the time.

Oden and Wagner were both good decisions. They had the required talent, and I don’t see any evidence that they didnt’ work hard to make it in the league.

Just because a player didn’t pan out, doesn’t mean it was a bad draft decision. There is luck and randomness involved. Drafting a Rafael Araujo over Andre Iguodala, is COMPLETELY different than drafting Greg Oden over Kevin Durant.
