aamir543ParticipantThis is the time of year where people either gain credibility for making bold predictions on whether a player will be a bust or a star, or people lose respect for making an absurd and innacurate prediction. In a couple years, we can either brag about our predictions, or throw them inot a well. Either way here it goes.
Bust-
Markief Morrris
Marcus Morrris
Bismack Biyombo
Alec Burks
Jordan Hamilton
Kawahi Leanord
Guys that should do well and will-
Kyrie Irving
Enes Kanter
Derrick Williams
Jan Vesely
Guys who need to land on the right team-
Kemba Walker
Brandon Knight
Jimmer Fredette
Kyle Singler
Sleepers, who will have nice careers-
Kenneth Faried
Shelvin Mack
Josh Selby
Jeremy Tyler
Donatas Montiejunas
Nikola Mirotic
I advise you guys not to give negs to people, because these are bold predictions, and mostly opionion. Now you guys try.

TimbosliceParticipantU could put all these guys under the “guys that need to land on the right team” category.

kicker16ParticipantYeah timbo is right there are no sure bets in this draft. Other than Kyrie what have those four shown you that make you believe they will be successful?

Johnny ChillI agree that the Morris twins will be bust, given where they will be drafted. Top 15.
Shelvin Mack could have a nice career as a career backup point guard, Early 2nd round.
Nolan Smith will have a better career than Mack as a combo guard. Early 2nd round.
Kyle Singler will be a solid rotation player coming off the bench for any team. Late 1st round.
Josh Selby will be a reach if drafted in the 1st round (too much risk), 2nd round steal.
Fredette has star potential. He already has a huge fan following.

Sewok15ParticipantSingler will be a bust. He has no athleticism and his jumper is suspect.
How can Selby be a reach in the first round and a steal in the second? That doesn’t make any sense.

kicker16ParticipantI’m just saying Kanter hasn’t played competitive basketball in over a year and your basing his game mostly on the hoop summit game.
Williams did well in a shitty pac 10 and had one incredible game against duke. Where do you see him playing in the NBA?
All we know about vesely is that he is 6’11 and likes to run the floor. Well so does Anthony Randolph.

GottaBeTheShoesParticipantAlec burks really? Alec Burks is one of the most athletic players in this draft. He has superstar potential and will get a jumpshot in good time. He will likely start right out of the gate so he will be in a good situation. Burks will be top 5 player from this draft in the longrun. You obviously have never watched the kid play.

Sewok15ParticipantThe Morris twins will both be good NBA players. They have versatile offensive games with good range on their jumpers. Burks is easily the best SG prospect in the draft and 5 years down the road I feel he might be the 2nd best player in this draft behind Derrick Williams. Hamilton is ready to contribute to a good team right now with his ability to shoot the ball and will never be great due to his lack of athleticism he will be serviceable for many years. He is a smart player and was a good rebounder in college and that is a skill that usually translates to the NBA. The only Bust possibilities I agree with are Biyombo and Leonard. The potential steal of the draft is Marshon Brooks. He can score with anybody in the draft (including Jimmer) and has a 7-1 wingspan which could translate to becoming a stellar defensive player with the right coaching. I would also put Chris Singleton in this category because he already has the defensive mindset that succeeds in the league and with some good coaching could become a dangerous offensive player as well.

Johnny Chillplayers being drafted in the in the mid 20s is rarely considered a bust.
1st round guarenteed contract, 2nd round not guaranteed.

Sewok15ParticipantI understand how the contracts work but it still doesn’t make sense to say someone is a reach in the first round and a steal in the 2nd. That means there is no correct spot to draft him. Your and idiot if you draft him in the first but a genius if you take him in the 2nd. There is no 1.5 round that would be a good spot to take him. You understand what I am saying…This isn’t the NFL draft there are only two rounds so if you like a player at the end of the first round that would otherwise slip to the 2nd round you should just take him. What you are saying is that he would be a good pick for a team that sucks like the Cavs early in the second but a crappy pick for a team that is already good like the Bulls. In reality it would be better for both sides if he could go to a contending team and learn from the sidelines instead of being forced into playing for a crappy team to start his career.

cward23ParticipantWasn’t Gereld Green on of the most athletic players in his draft as well?..Not good reasoning as far as him being a star, being a great athlete doesn’t equal superstar potential. With that said i think he is gonna be a very good player.
You also don’t have to be a very good athlete to be a good player( i wish people would stop thinking you are good based on how athletic you are or unathletic you are). Singler is a versitle player who can do alot of things pretty well. He should be a good addition to a playoff team
0 - Posted on: Mon, 06/20/2011 - 9:20am #547784
cward23ParticipantIt makes sense because a player could be a reach in the first round if they don’t pan out ( you’re stuck with that player for 3-4 years because you drafted him in the first round compared to one year if you draft him in the second)
0- Posted on: Mon, 06/20/2011 - 1:56pm #547994

Sewok15ParticipantThis isn’t the NFL where you have to negotiate a huge 5 year contract for your first round picks. In the NBA someone you take in the first round is only required to be on your team for 2 years. The other 2 years are a team option which most teams pick up if the player is worth anything at all. The difference is though in the NBA you are only paying about 2 mil a season for a rookie and in the NFL you are paying around 7 or 8 million a season for 5 seasons. It is much more important to draft right as an NFL team where as in the NBA it only really matters if you are in the lottery.

GottaBeTheShoesParticipantCward.. Alec Burks is more than athleticism. If you have never watched Alec play just be quiet.

JoeWolf1These are indeed predictions, but predictions with absolutely no arguement to back them up.

cward23ParticipantI’ve seen him play and think he will be a very good player. My point was Athletic ability doesn’t equal superstar potential. Just stating a opinion. Not gonna stoop to that childish level of telling you to be quiet though, Grew out of that in the 5th grade

cward23ParticipantI think Tyler is a big sleeper. He was easily the second best big man behind Sullinger the as a Jr before going overseas
