CodySLCParticipantDo you think the Jazz should take Knight at 3, hope he can become a “true” pg in time and average more than 7apg in the NBA? And then look for a wing like Burkes, Leonard, or Hamilton at 12.
Or do you take Kanter, solidify your front court of the next 10+yrs with he and Favors. And then take Jimmer (who has shown he has the athletism to compete at a high level) at 12? I still highly doubt he goes before Walker. He may or may not go before 12.
Personally idk what they’ll do. But I trust KOC to make the right move. Either way I’m excited to see Knight or Kanter next season.0 - Posted on: Wed, 06/15/2011 - 11:36am #545556
ChameleonKidParticipantI’m thinking your first plan is more logical. Utah has Al Jefferson, Derrick Favors, Paul Millsap, and Mehmet Okur. Their frontline is already pretty stacked. However, Kirilenko may leave via free agency, and they lack a true starting shooting gaurd. So I’d probably draft Knight, and maybe use him as more of a combo gaurd to start alongside Devin Harris for the time being and at #12 draft a small forward. Thats what I would do. Make sense?

CodySLCParticipantYa I think the first of the 2 is more likely. But I was surprised last year when we took Hayward at 9. And that worked out well. Also who we are planning on trading will play into it.

French FlairParticipantKnight & Singleton will make sense, it’s my feelings for my mock draft !

NiceWithTheRockParticipantI keep hearing that the jazz need a 2 or 3 and that really confuses me. i saw some of Gordon Hayward towards the end of the year and thought he was impressive. But how do the jazz or the fans feel about him? Do you think he can be an above average starter?

BasterdInABasketParticipantI still think Irving, Kanter and Williams are three best players in the draft and they should take BPA if 2 are gone. Irving will be gone by 3. Kanter is not an immediate need but buillding around him and Favors at 4 and 5 would be perfect, plus Okur has 1 year and Jefferson and Millsap have 2 years left. Williams could fit in at the 3, which is a big need with AK leaving.
With the 12th pick: Jimmer(if he gets past 7), Burks(I dont think MIL passes on him), Kemba(probably not there) should all be targeted. I think Kanter/Jimmer is a likely scenario but I would take BPA #3 and pass on Knight.

Awesome-O-420ParticipantWatch game film on Kanter, which is available on the "other" draft website, and stop looking at the letter next to his name. What about his game says "Center". It’s debateable if he’s BPA at #3, and the only other argument is that people call him a center, which is a need for the Jazz. The Jazz have been stressing they’re a defensive team, but haven’t been one since the Stockton/Malone era, so why take a Kanter who is a very skilled 4 and ask him to play anchor down defense?
The real question about who the Jazz go after at 3 is, does Favors develop an offensive game? If he does, Kanter just adds to a log jam of PF’s. If Favors isn’t someone who you think is a go to guy at 4, then Kanter becomes the offense in the middle while Favors becomes more of the defensive anchor ala Gasol/Randolph in Memphis.
But if you believe Kanter is not head and above better than Knight why take him if you already have a PF playing C with Jefferson? I’m not comfortable with Harris running the point – if he gets hurt (likely), the Jazz have 0 depth at PG.
Williams may be BPA, but again, he is the only one calling himself a SF. No scout or GM I’ve heard has called him a SF – they all say he is a PF who despite half an inch of length will be ok in the NBA due to his wingspan/athletecism. Elton Brand is 6’8 but aside from the injuries his length hasn’t seemed to bother him, so is Williams calling himself a SF because he’s 6’8 with a PF skill set? So given all that, I wouldn’t call him a replacement for AK.
The Jazz need to ditch the old identities, Sloan is gone and the offense is suppose to be tweaked anyways. They should start drafting defensive players and stop relying on 1 guy to play defense for the entire team (as they did the past 5 years with AK). They have a good peice already with Favors, Knight would be another.

TheLastWordParticipantThe Jazz have historically taken big men unless they have an absolute glaring hole somewhere like in 2005 when they had nothing resembling a PG. They could use a future PG, but do not need one immediately like they did in 2005. Devin Harris is an all star just 2 years removed, and under contract for 2-3 more years. From Derrick Favors first year he is clearly a good defensive player, so pairing him up with Kanter is not a terrible idea. I think Kanter is the pick, and will do everything in their power to get Jimmer at 12 even if it means trading up to get him.

PulseGlazerParticipantAlmost has to be a point. Harris has proven he’s not a winner at this point, while Knight isn’t a talent you just find lying around regularly. They really need to clear up some of the mediocre to solid players on their team, as they have too many bigs and pieces that just don’t fit… strangely always a problem for whomever has Al Jefferson.

bigblackNbeautifulParticipantWe need to go with williams or ivring if they drop. If not take best big avilable. We arent winning the championship next year so lets get the best big this year and next year with our two probable lotto picks get our other wing opposite Hayward (who i think is going to be a really good player) and our point guard. I just feel Brandon knight isnt ever going to develop into a 7 apg kinda player which is key in a jazz game plan. Also if Burk is avilable at 12 he needs to be the pick. Harris-Burk-Hayward-Favors-Jefferson with Jonas or Enes coming off the bench sounds fine to me.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantThe Jazz lost 17 of 25 games after dealing Deron Williams. They aren’t close. When a team is that bad, there cannot be talk of fit. Fitting in with a bad team doesn’t make them good. I think a long-term pairing Enes Kanter and Derrick Favors would be really intriguing. I don’t care who you refer to as the power forward and who will be referred to as the center. They are both center size. Kanter has an incredible skill set, and Favors is a raw in terms of putting his game together but is a top notch athlete. In fact, Favors is such a good athlete that I think he might be able to play 16 minutes per game in Spain for a cash strapped team that desperately needed size. There is a rumor that he can even block a shot. I digress. The point is there has never been a team with too many talented, skilled big men. I don’t think Favors is ready to play more than 20-25 minutes per game next year. After two years of not playing anything resembling competitive basketball and a history that includes a bout of knee tendinitis and having to take four painkillers to numb pain in his back before the Nike Hoops Summit, I tend to believe even if Kanter is the next Tim Duncan that it doesn’t take a doctor to see that a guy who is that big, with that medical history, and such a long time away from high intensity basketball will not be logging super heavy minutes. Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap will still be logging big minutes, and important enough to retain trade value. Even if Kanter and Favors are ahead of my estimations, any team would dream of a scenario where they have three high performing big men in that Pau/Odom/Bynum mold. If the two young big men work out, then I have zero doubt at some point in the future either Jefferson or Millsap can be moved in the future for a good fit elsewhere on the roster.
If they go Kanter at 3, then I think the ideal pick at #12 would be Jordan Hamilton. I like the idea of grabbing a 6’8-6’9 scorer with great range on the wing. BTW, I don’t believe Jimmer will be there.

scootover7ParticipantI personally would take either Knight or Vesely at the 3. If you take Knight with the 3 then I feel you take Burks or Jordan Hamilton at the 12. If you take Vesely at the 3 then you take either Walker, Jimmer, Burks or Hamilton at the 12.

PulseGlazerParticipantKnight, Favors, Gordon, and Singleton is a good starting point. Move everything else you can and rebuild.

Jazz_ItalyParticipantthis is what we need
a SF, derrick is the best player in this draft in my opinion, the best fit for us
irving, because we need a PG and if he falls to 3 we can’t pass him
kanter: yeah, our frontcourt is full, but we can trade someone and be ok for the future with favors, kanter,millsap/big al, evans
brandon knight is a young, athletic and smart player (listen to calipari)
our 3th pick MUST be one of these

JimboParticipantUtah has some good young forwards but a true center like Kanter at number 3 should be their top priority. Then I would take Jimmer at 12 if he is available. There is a reason his stock is rising – his athletic tests at the combine and NBA workouts.
