Despite the fact they just won the championship, I think this team still could use some retooling. Some of their key players are getting up there in age(most notably Jason Kidd and Dirk Nowitzki). Where do you think they should go with their 26th pick? I’m thinking maybe a swingman(ie; Tyler Honeycutt or Travis Leslie) since Shawn Marion and Jason Terry are heading in their mid 30’s. Whats your take?

if i am dallas i would go with shelby…

he has a high chance to bust but also a lot of potential.. dallas will be good for the next 2 years and after that they will need someone else to step up big. i think shelby is ideal cause if he end up reaching his potential he is the player dallas needs and if not they will be fine with it.

i don´t think there is a player avalible for them that would really help immediatly so i go with the best avalible talent in shelby even if the chance is high he fails…

they had the will, but think about it, they need a bench small forward and power forward and they need a young starting 2 who can slash and hit the 3

I like Selby, Joseph, or Lee.  I dont think they need any more at SG, they have a pretty good guy who has yet to crack the rotation now in Dominique Jones.  Maybe Jones comes on and works his way in…or possibly take a chance on Shumpert and look towards dumping Stevenson.  I just dont think Stevenson has long term value with the team…Shumpert IMO would be an upgrade to Stevenson if his shooting wasnt so streaky.

They just need to resign everyone and they will be the clear favorites to win it all.  Stevenson isn’t the best but he played well.

A good two guard with size and an outside shot would help going forward or maybe DeAndre Liggins who can defend and shoot 3’s as a long term replacement for Stevenson.

I think they are set at forward with Caron Butler, Dirk, and Shawn Marion with Brian Cardinal as a deep reserve guy.

Jason Kidd is getting old and maybe they need a new franchise point guard, but I don’t see one falling to 26.  They might be better off taking a shot at getting Chris Paul in a year or two.

Everyone here is suggesting Shelby or Nolan Smith, when they already have a scoring PG with Rod Barbouis(spell?) and Barea. I think they this team is aging and needs an athletic wing, specially if Butler is gone. If he is still there, Tyler Honeycutt would be perfect, or they could also go with an athletic PF with JaJuan Johnson.

Yep thats exactly what I said in my original post. Either Tyler Honeycutt, or maybe Travis Leslie(guys that can play 2 and 3).

I think with a healthy Beaubois, and last years’ draft pick Dominique Jones who I feel is a very good player in the making ( despite not getting minutes for the NBA Champion, he averaged 19, 5,5 in the D-League) and could be a very nice player to bring off the bench next season, going with a guard isn’t the right decision at #26.

I think adding depth at the power forward would be a good option and there is a surplus of players that will be available at #26.  Trey Tompkins, Justin Harper, JaJuan Johnson, Jordan Williams I think are all possibilities as well as Davis Bertans who translates into more of a small forward at the next level, but he could also be a good option at 26.

Outside of Dirk, Dallas’ power forwards are the 33 year old Matrix and the 34 year old Custodian so adding a young PF makes the most sense to me.

mess.ee and Joewolf1 are the only ones that actually under stand there situation

Roddy Beaubois said last year he is untradeable even the raptors proposed chris bosh for him and they rejected that Any one who actually has been a Mavs fan and lives in Dallas they know Roddy is something special he takes good shot and is a good 3 point shooter. He has excellent court vision and amazing athletic abiliy that can dunk on people. With him learning from Kidd look for him to be a allstar player.

Dominque Jones was the only player in the NCAA 2 years ago to average 20 plus points and 5 plus rebounds and 5 plus assist. In the preseason they starrted him over Marion and moved Butler to the sf because they said they needed more offense .

The only position they do need is at the power forward and allow Marion to be more of a full time sf and create miss matches with his posting up ability .SO with this pick I would probably go with Justin Harper or JaJuan Johson

What should Dallas do at #26:

no PG – they have 2 PGs behind Kidd in Roddy Beaubois and Barea, they count on Roddy B to be the future at the position.

no wing – they very deep and versatile there, enough talent, young, experience, Jason Terry, DeShawn Stevenson, Dominique Jones, Caron Butler, Corey Brewer, Caron Butler, Shawn Marion.

no C – tha position is close with Tyson Chandler and Brendan Haywood getting the minuetes with Ian Mahinmi as raw talent backing up.

it very clearly what Dallas should do with this pick, they have specific role in the team of a stretch 4 who back up Dirk and cold also play some 3, that role Predrag Stojakovic and Brian Cardinal fill this past year, they both old and may not coming back so Dallas have opportunity to adress this role with a ready player in the draft. they will pick:

    Kyle Singler or Justin Harper
