laarethekingsParticipantHe WON’T sign a extension with the Magic and become a free agent in 2012… What do you think the Magic should do? Try to trade him this off season? Wait till mid season like Dever did? Or hold out and hope that he doesn’t sign with a team next off season?
I think that you have to trade him… You can’t let one player rule your kingdom per say. The Magic have already made a bad panic move with the trade mid season, taking on bad contracts that got them in a bigger mess.

larbear260Participantthey need to trade him and rebuild, they aquired arenas who is a shell of his old self, and turkolgu who is just nothing more then a bench player i think anymore and their gaudy contracts
richardson will be gone this off season
the daniel orton pick last year doesnt look good, he didnt see a minute in the nba, looked horrible in summer league, and suffered a serious injury
they will have to pay 26.5 mil to nelson and arenas alone next season, theyve really put themselves in a hole
their most promising young player (besides howard) you can argue is earl clark which isnt saying much
with zero picks in this draft they wont be getting younger anywhere, the lack of free agent depth doesnt help much either…
trade howard for future picks and solid young players…
options are..
New Jersey for a package around Brook Lopez
Los Angeles for a package around Andrew Bynum
Los Angeles Clippers for a package around Kaman/Jordan/Aminu

ChameleonKidParticipantI think the smartest thing to do at this point would be to trade him along with Gilbert Arenas(arguably the worst contract in the NBA today) for some players, picks, and maybe some cap relief. Not sure if that would be technically considered "rebuilding", but nonetheless it makes sense to me.

mikeyvthedonParticipantWill be begging Dwight to stay and wait until the next big FA year, when the 2008 draft guys contracts finally run out and they can get a couple to sign in Orlando. Really, I have no idea, but I think that Orlando has to make some major moves to get Dwight to stay, and I think Dwight will probably get some sort of sign and trade deal to play with some other solid player. If Orlando does not pull the trigger before training camp, which I doubt they will, expect to see a few teams with some players on them making some deals to dump salary, just like the Heat did last summer.
Dwight is a big time get for any team near contending or any team with a marquee player, but at the same time, unless those teams either offer the goods or get rid of some contracts, they will have very little leverage on the Magic asking for them to throw in the kitchen sink for Dwight’s services. So, expect the trade to be more New York for Anthony than Miami for Bosh/LeBron. Not to mention that Orlando will want more than Denver got for Melo, due to the fact that Dwight has no real close competition at his position in the entire league.
Larbear, that is a start, but they have to be impressive packages. I see no reason why the Magic would be ok with trading Dwight for Bynum and Odom. I see no reason the Magic would be cool with trading for Brook Lopez and anyone else really on the Nets besides Deron Williams, who is not going anywhere and would be the reason Dwight would even go too that team in the first place. They would need to make some major cap moves and have leverage to be able to potentially sign Dwight for a Lopez trade to be considered. The Clippers seems like a major pipe dream to me. As much as Dwight and Blake seem like the most brutal combo you could get in the league, they also are two guys you do not want on the floor with the game on the line. If the Magic take that trade, I would consider it one of the most lopsided in NBA history.

larbear260Participantthis is the building block for the trade players can be added, subtracted, but i think this is a good starting point for discussion
new jersey gets : dwight, turkoglu
orlando gets: Brook Lopez, Damion James, Jordan Farmar, and picks

Memphis MadnessParticipantThe Magic needs to trade him, either for a super star or some good young talent.
The best two options would be to trade him to the Heat for LeBron James or to the Bulls for Noah, Gibson, Deng, and picks. Would the Bulls trade Deng? Would they want to trade Boozer instead? Not sure, but if they could get Noah, Taj Gibson, some draft picks, and a solid veteran out of the deal then that would be pretty good.
However, the league may “orchestrate” a deal between Orlando and the Lakers to ship Dwight Howard out west. A Lakers vs. Heat NBA Final would be too much to pass up.

Moon RiverParticipantI think the Bulls would give up any player other than D. Rose for Howard.
I agree with the majority in that Orlando needs to unload this guy but they will not do it now because of the CBA uncertainty. They have discussed a possible "franchise tag" type option like the NFL, meaning that Orlando could place that on Howard, and than Howard is stuck in Florida with bloated contracts. Either way, don’t feel bad for Howard. He will be paid.

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantHoward should weigh his options and think about joining a team with loads of young talent as opposed to a team on the fringe of contending and decomposing…I would love for Howard to join any team besides the Lakers, Bulls, Celtics, Knicks and Heat, I also through the Nets in that category for some reason…

BKKnicksfanParticipantHow about this deal?
Los Angeles Clippers get: Dwight Howard
Orlando Magic get: Minnesota’s 2012 1st round pick, Los Angeles’ 2013 1st round pick, Al Faroqu Aminu and DeAndre Jordan?
The Magic get 2 1st round picks, one of them could be top 5-top 10. A good, young combo forward and a developing big man in Jordan.

thparadoxParticipantThe Magic will probably pray for some sort of amnesty rule as part of the new CBA, where they can drop Arenas.
They look pretty screwed right now…their only assets are Dwight Howard, JJ Redick and Ryan Anderson. (everyone else is overpaid).
Best thing to do is to liquidate for cap space.. package Dwight and Turkoglu in exchange for nothing or expirings, maybe a pick.

cward23ParticipantYeah there may be no reason for a fan to think they would make any of those rades but how many trades have we seen go down that we saw no reason for the team to make? The fact is if he is not gonna stay there will be a unreasonable trade (thats what happens when you trade a superstar, you don’t get the same value in return)
The lakers,Bulls,Nets might be in the best shape as far as who the Magic will trade with because those teams can offer better players than most. The lakers might be the best because of a young Bynum, versitile Odom, You good players in Ebanks and Caracter and they would probably take hedo or agent zero. Bulls can offer Boozer,Deng,Draft picks, and tae on Hedo, Agent zero. Nets can offer Brook, Draft picks, and take on both Hedo and Agent Zero( i could be wrong on that part)

mikeyvthedonParticipantI think that Clippers package is super weak. DeAndre Jordan is one of the most overrated players by everyone on this entire site. He was a good value pick, but does not come close to making up for Dwight Howard. While no one would, you could get a lot more for that. I personally like Al-Farouq Aminu, but again, is he much more than a role player? The meat of the deal would be Minnesota’s pick, though we have little to no idea who that may land us. While next year’s draft will be a lot deeper than this years, you still have little to no idea where that pick will end up and if a true All-Star caliber player would be available. Huge gamble for very little in return. The Clippers pick in 2013 would mean nothing also, they would have Eric Gordon, Blake Griffin and Dwight Howard, they would have to gamble in the 24-30 range.
Guys, needs to be more meat on the table for Orlando too take a deal. DeAndre Jordan, for one, is a Free Agent and Eric Gordon needs a re-up. You have Kaman’s expiring contract, which is decent, but Orlando would want a little more than just that. I think they want a pretty significant package for Dwight, and if you are offering prospects, make sure they are prospects that have a little higher ceiling than 4th or 5th option role players.

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantLet alone taking back both of them, how about this trade offer guys…Jrue Holiday, Andre Iguadola, Andreas Nocioni,Craig Brackins, Spencer Hawes, 16th pick in the draft, 2012 lottery protected pick and cash considerations for Dwight Howard, Jameer Nelson and Earl Clark ,Sixers get to pair Turner and Howard(possible Penny/Shaq type combo, plus Nelson(a close friend of Howard’s) gets to come home, Thad Young, Marresse Speights and Elton Brand platoon the F positions And Lou Williams and Jodi Meeks can provide a spark off the Bench, our 2nd round pick can net a Sf like Chandler Parsons, players will come on board for cheap to play with Howard…Sixers Starting line up Pg Nelson Sg Turner Sf Young Pf Brand C Howard Bench Pg Williams Sg Meeks Sf Clark/Parsons Pf Speights C Dalembert(MLE)

Mr. BasketballParticipantA Clippers package could be strong though. If it was lets say Eric Gordon, Aminu, and the Minnesota 2012 1st rounder.

cward23Participant@mikeyvthedon the thing you don’t realize is that it doesn’t matter what Orlando wants because 9 times out of 10 they won’t get all that they want (thats what happens when you trade a superstar who wants to be traded, you get low balled)
As far as taking Hedo or Agent Zero’s contract @scarecrow i’m sure we all though that before Orlando took their contract. The thing is no contract is untradeable, might be very unlikely but can happen. Am i the only one who remember’s past things like lopesided trades or untradale contract’s getting traded?
I forgot about the Clippers. Kahman when healthy is a allstar center, Aminu does have potential, they have draft picks and they have the cap space to take on Hedo’s contract (he’s not that great but he is better than all the other options they have at the three

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipant1 more time for the Mind …Sixers trade, Holiday, Iguadola, Nocioni, Brackins, Hawes, 16th pick in 2011, first round pick in 2012 and cash considerations Orlando trades Dwight Howard, Jameer Nelson and Earl Clarke…the Magic get a young Pg with huge Potential, an All star caliber Sg/Sf, a veteran Sf with an expiring contract in Nocioni, a young scoring Pf, a young scoring 7 foot C, the 16th pick in the draft for depth this year, a pick in next years draft and cash …The Sixers get Howard, Nelson is still very servicable and with Turner, Young, Speights, Williams and Meeks there is plenty of young talent to grow with as opposed to watch wither away, Nelson, Brand and any vet that signs on will be bring more than enough experience and toughness to the table, plus Brand’s contract expires in a very deep Free Agency…his near max deal could get a very good player (if the CBA allows it off course…) give me some feed back guys, I think that deal is the strongest suggested so far…

cward23ParticipantI don’t think the clippers wanna let Gordan go. If they do a pacage of Gordan,Kahman,Aminu and a draft pick might be better thanwhat the Lakers can offer

rileymcshea3Participanthow about
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=3gar6o8
Jazz get Dwight Howard and Quentin Richardson(for salary cap reasons)
Magic get Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap and Raje Bell (salary cap reasons) and one of there 1st round picks (#3 or #12)

cward23ParticipantDoubt that Howard would wanna go to utah( most players dont). That sixers trade doesn’t sound bad but not likely
