StF616ParticipantAt least according to the BYU Head Coach..
BYU Head Coach Dave Rose has played with and coached some pretty talented players throughout his basketball career. Most recently he’s coached the 2011 National Player of the Year Jimmer Fredette and was a member of the Phi Slamma Jamma teams that featured Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler. So where does he rank Fredette? According to an interview with the ESPN Sacramento Kings blog, right at the top. From Cowbell Kingdom: “Well, I think he’s the best offensive player that has ever been on my team, either as a player or a coach, as far as his ability to just make big shots and kind of will your team out of spots during the game.”My Opinion:
Thats i the dumbest, most ignorant thing i have ever heard in my life.. (Well maybe other than DNYCE’s Trade ideas)0 - Posted on: Sat, 06/11/2011 - 12:32pm #543031
TimbosliceParticipantJimmer better than the dream? -1 for Dave Rose

JNixonParticipantMaybe you guys should give him a chance to play an NBA game, before you say a man that’s coached and played with the players makes a statement. Just maybe.

ghrghrParticipantHe is just helping raise Jimmer’s stock. I’m sure he doesn’t mean what he said.
Jimmer did score much more than any of those players in college, not that it means anything.

tubbyman1ParticipantThat ranks up there with some of the dumbest things I have ever heard on this website not to hate on the jimmer or anything but lets be realistic.

sheltwon3ParticipantI agree there is no way that Jimmer is a better scorer than " the dream" There are guards, forwards, and Centers that could learn a lot from Hakeem and all his moves and many ways to score.
I think he is doing Jimmer and disservice because now if Jimmer is not an all star or superstar people will call him a bust.

sheltwon3ParticipantThat is like saying Jimmer is better than Jordan

Mr. JewboyParticipantno..it isnt

JNixonParticipant"That is like saying Jimmer is better than Jordan"
It’s actually not like saying he’s better than Jordan.

NarcParticipantBut saying he’s better than Olajuwon is just as worse.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 06/11/2011 - 1:42pm #543070
scliddiardParticipantRose is refering to Jimmer as a college player, Jordan wasn’t nearly as prolific in college as he ended up being in the Pros, the same with Olajuwon & Drexler. I don’t know how good Jimmer will end up being but he could be alot better than people think. The team and the coach he ends up playing for could go along way to determining how his game develops, he can really shoot and score, & has good handles, if a coach uses him right he will continue to develop and could be all star caliber player. That being said, Olajuwon , Drexler or Jordan are the best of the best and it’s not likely even if things go Jimmers way he would even come close to them.

sheltwon3ParticipantEverybody has their opinions but I guess people must not really respect Olajuwon’s offensive game to not understand my comparison. Olajuwon’s offensive moves and varietion put him on par or greater than Jordan in some aspects. I am not saying he was there better scorer but his scoring was more diverse.

sheltwon3ParticipantI think I must has pissed Iggy off because he continues to try to disagree with most of my opinions without giving it a breakdown like his countdown to drafts. If you disagree with me @ Iggy please give a reason and not act like somehow your words along can discredit what I say.

bloodshyParticipantQuit creating idiotic straw man arguments. Dave Rose wasn’t talking about Drexler/Olajuwon in the pros. Dave Rose ONLY said Jimmer was the best offensive player of any team he was on–referring to the offensive potency AT THE TIME they were on his team.
The statement is hardly controversial. Jimmer averaged 28.9 ppg last year. Drexler averaged 15.9 ppg during his best college season. Olajuwon averaged 16.8 ppg during his best college season.
No one is claiming Jimmer will be a better offensive player than The Glide or The Dream @ the next level.

mrhancocParticipantok ok ok, Jimmer may shoot the 3pt better but he’s no where near (and will never be near) the offensive players Olajuwon or Drexler was.

I never get pissed on this site lol. It’s not a personal thing at all. It’s because you generally have bad points as to why you say things when I disagree with you. Other people either explain why or I generally give you a good reason as to why your points are bad. I think I actually give people reasons just about everytime I post. I guess not so here goes:
Do you want a reason as to why Coach Rose saying Jimmer Freddette was the best player he’s coached or played with? Because he played with a COLLEGE VERSION of Drexler and Olajuwon. And coached a COLLEGE VERSION of Jimmer Freddette. That’s why. They weren’t top 50 NBA players before they played in the NBA. Just as Jimmer isn’t a top 50 NBA player before playing in the NBA. They put on their pants the same way. They all bleed if they get cut deep enough. Their sh*t probably all stinks too. I didn’t think that statement justified a "JNixon-Iggy9’s Countdown to the Draft"-type breakdown, but there you go since you so kindly asked.

sheltwon3ParticipantIggy I already understand this argument already but he does not say that or the reporter does not say that. Still I think in good wisdom what is the point of saying that Jimmer was the best offensive player he coached in college when the 2 players you bring up have had very successful NBA carreers. Also just because you disagree with my post does not make my post bad. There are many people that agree with me about this issue.
I am pretty sure it is a personal thing but most people dont want to admit that but you mistakely did when you seem to say that I make bad point when this is generally your opinion and you have yet to ever comment on anything I have said and agreed or gave support. I have disagreed and supported some of your posts without bias. I can not recall anytime you have supported anything I have said.
I tend to see if I talk about certain players you generally come at me.
I have been on this site a long time and it is funny how you bring up the few times I may have been off on a subject.
Look at how many times I have posted and there are only maybe 4 or 5 things that anyone can say that I was wrong about.
Robin Lopez thing
Ramon Sessions thing
I was wrong about about Kevin Love being this good on Minny, I thought he would not be better until he was traded. Most people did not see Love being this good I knew he was legit out of college but when things went bad in Minny, I thought he would need a change of scenery.
and possibly a few smaller poings that would add up to 4 or 5 and that is it.
Most of my mistakes I own up to and that is it.
Some of these things I was wrong on can still change because it is still early.
All these bad points you speak on are a illusion to some personal issue you have with me.
I guess I was wrong about Hayward being a role player but it is still too early to say that.
It is funny how his having a few good game changed that i was right but all those terrible games did not prove i was right.
Jimmer will be a very good role player and if he finds his niche on a team, he could start and be that guy that opens the floor for the main guy. They would have to hide him on defense but this would not be the first time.
I dont see him creating his shot the same in the NBA like in college.

aamir543ParticipantWow, if I am an NBA scout, this does not change my opinion about Jimmer, this just takes away any credibility and respect I ever had for Dave Rose

Because he played with or coached them when they were in college dude. That’s why he’s saying he’s the best player he’s played with or coached. He didn’t play in Houston with Olajuwon, and he didn’t play with Drexler in Portland. His statement wasn’t false, at least not statistically. He’s not making a CAREER comparison, otherwise don’t you think he would’ve said something line "I think Jimmer Fredette is the best offensive player I’ve played with or coached, and he will be the most successful offensive player I’ve played with or coached." Do you REALLY think this man is going to say Jimmer Freddette is better than Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler before he plays an NBA game? Y’all have to not overthink the statement.
And I think the points you make are bad when I disagree because you never base them on anything, ever. Other people might have the same opinion, but that doesn’t mean what you said was grounded on anything.
And do you really think you’ve only been wrong 4 or 5 times? You’re not that smart. Nobody on this site is really. You’ve been on this site for probably 2 or 3 years, and you want ANYONE to believe YOU have only been wrong 4 or 5 times? You also said Landry Fields wouldn’t work out. And that’s just something off the top of my head.

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantI think Olajuwon was an incredible player and one of the 10 greatest players in the history of the NBA. That being said Jimmer was clearly the better offensive player in college and it’s not even close. The Dream averaged 13.3 PPG in his college career with a career high of 16.8 as a junior. I’m not sure why people seem to think this is a controversial statement..
0 - Posted on: Sun, 06/12/2011 - 3:53pm #543638

sheltwon3ParticipantI never said that Laundry Fields would not work out. I was upset with that pick because I wanted someone else and really was not that high on Fields. I did more research and felt he would be solid before he even played a game in the summer league. Also dude you do not know me to say if I am smart or not which makes this personal. I can tell you have a immature mind if you are talking on someone that you dont know. Like I said the world is all about people and their opinions. You have been wrong as well but I guess you dont see that. I would rather you be a man and come and say you have issues with me than to just take shots at me. That is cowardice. I can at least respect someone who comes up to me and be honest and be like you know what I dont like you and nothing you stand for. That is their right to their opinion. At least they are open about it. You say stuff about my topic that draw attention to yourself. There are too many people that say things are way off base and you never say anything at all to them.
I dont know you but I can tell from how you deal with people and put on front that you are cowardice. I dont even hit up particular posters. I just speak on post I disagree with all the time and if i agree I agree. You seem to have a lot of bias and that actually is more of an issue when evaluating anything. No matter how smart you are, no one can predict what this player and that player will be and you can turn stats and your opinion and find numbers to support anything you think and can still be wrong.
I am done with this but I can bet I will say something about a post you did not start and you will something to spew hate at me.

sheltwon3ParticipantHate in your heart is not a good thing.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 06/12/2011 - 4:00pm #543649

JNixonParticipantYeah I hate you -___-. I don’t even know you to hate you! And do you know what biased means? Because I make sure I never show bias. Just because you don’t understand the context of what someone said I’m a coward and I hate you? Are you silly? I wouldn’t be able to pick you out of a lineup if you robbed me, so HOW could I hate you? All I said was I think your points aren’t backed by anything whenever I disagree with your statements. That’s all a disagreement is. If you wanna take it personal, that’s fine. You might need to toughen up if you really are whining about that.
