nateoak10ParticipantHe will be a FA this off season and Dallas will likely be over the cap this year and already are paying Haywood a large sum of money, now they can go over the cap even more to resign their own guys but it’s a big risk, especially with a probable hard cap coming in. And the way he has played this year he will be sought after by many teams in the offseason
Do you think he stays in Dallas if they win a ring? And if they don’t? Keep in mind they have to resign Caron Butler and JJ Barea as well

omphalosParticipantI think he leaves or signs a very short-term deal. He’ll be commanding big money after proving he could be healthy again, and as you said, Dallas isn’t in a situation where they can splash out, especially with the CBA situation.

Pro 1ParticipantMark Cuban will spend the $$$$ in order to bring back Chandler to the Mavs, trust.

khaled_a_dParticipant“especially with a probable hard cap coming in.”
Hard Cap is the only thing that the NBPA aren’t gonna accept,it was reported that they are gonna negotiate everything but Hard Cap,and I think some Owners will agree with themAs for the topic,I am a Mavs fan ,our free agents are Butler,JJ,Chandler,Stevenson,Cardinal and Peja.Chandler is the only one I am sure the Mavs will resign ,he is very important ,Also I think Haywood played really good for us,not sure about his numbers but his defense was really important,I think that it will be possible to trade him if we have too ,remember his last year in his contract isn’t guaranteed ,so he has about 4 more years with 35M ,his contract is bad,but not horrible for a guy who can easily be a good starting C ,
Butler ?I don’t kow,we 1 win away from winning a ring w/o him ,si I think it is all about the price
JJ?we have Roddy ,Jones and possibly Calathes ,so there is a good chance we let him go0 - Posted on: Fri, 06/10/2011 - 9:09pm #542768
ryan27ParticipantIts been destined for Chandler to re-sign in Dallas. Mark Cuban loves overpaying centers who play really well in their contract year (Dampier, Diop, Haywood), and Chandler is coming off a great season. The only thing that can stop this from happening is a lockout

ghettosermonParticipantUnless the league does something crazy durastic and goes to a hard cap or something Mark Cuban doesn’t give a crap how much luxury tax he has to pay.

HitsterParticipantMark Cuban will spend whatever within reason is required to keep Chandler so I see a contract worth around $10 a year being offered to him. The length of the contract could be interesting as Cuban has allowed his front office to offer these long term daels to bigs like Dampier, Diop and Haywood in recent years but may not want to see another big on a long term deal which would take him past the Dirk era.
Chandler is only 28 years old but has now played 10 seasons so I would say a 4 year deal with the last being a team option at around $10 million a year could be fair value.
The funny thing may be with David West perhaps still out injured and Melo not going to FA then Chandler is very near the top of the FA list so some GM may make him a huge offer!
