So, the Heat are hated for tainting the NBA by stacking this great unbeatable team in the minds of there haters. They will also talk about the way Lebron did the decision. Lebron and the Heat are simply bad guys that are going about winning the wrong way and ruining there legacies and tainting the NBA but what about the Mavs?

No NBA team in my lifetime has used the zone as much as the Mavs because honestly they can’t get enough stops to win against the level of competition that they are currently playing without playing zone. So, what do you think about this is it good for the NBA? Does it taint the championship if the Mavs win it? Zone defense was not legal during the Jordan, Bird, Magic days. Actually, zones were not completely legal in the NBA until 2001-02.

    http://www.nba.com/a…es_history.html

Personally, I am not totally against zone because when I started playing organized ball on my 6th grade Pee Wee team that’s when I started learning zone. So, since 11 years old I was learning about zones, and I think it is pretty much the same for most of these professional athletes. On the other hand, that does not take away from the fact that the true greats were not allowed to use this defense which can be lazy, gimmicky, and simply used because you can’t play defense well enough to beat your competition without it. Yes it is currently legal so the Mavs are not breaking the rules, but this is not what Bird, Magic, and Jordan used. This is not what Russel used when he was winning 10 and this is also not what Phil Jackson who is ridiculed for winning with better talent every used, even though he could have from 2001-02 until now.

IMO, I do look at the Mavs as a weaker opponent win or lose this championship due to them not being able to get enough stops to win without using the zone.

Winning a championship is winning a championship, doesn’t make it any less of one because you played zone defense to get there.

STFU!!! It’s called smart D. If a team is gonna go and stack up with two top 5 players, a top 25 player, 3pt contest winner, and a former 6th man of the year/ROY, then no, I don’t see anything wrong with playing so much zone. What do you expect them to do?, play to the Heat’s strength’s?WTF? Closet Miami fan I take it?

Yea, figuring out how to stop the leagues 2 most dynamic wing players is definitely ruining the game. DeShawn Stephenson should be kicked out of the league for stopping Lebron.

Mavs are getting blown out every game until they go to zone. This is a horrible defensive team and not worthy of the Larry Obrien trophy

Well, if the Heat can’t figure out how to bust a zone with all the three point shooting threats they have, then THEY are the ones undeserving of little Larry O’Brien.

Who cares how they win as long as they are playing the game the right way? Personally I want the Mavs to win, but if Miami wins so be it as long as Miami doesn’t end up winning because a bunch of flopping. As far as the zone goes, it’s a part of basketball. It’s more of a modified zone, when you consider the defensive 3 second rule. If teams could run a real zone, there would be a lot of teams that couldn’t score on it. Zones work for the Mavs because theere are times when they play some really poor defenders and other times they are playing going with a small back court, the negative is it is hard to rebound out of a zone.

this is like saying that the heat are ruining the game because they are incredible on the fast break, and should wait for the mavs D to catch up to set up an offense and play 5 on 5 ball. This might be the absolute dumbest post I’ve ever read in my life. What would you suggest a team do against superior athletes who can get to the paint at will?

Miami is really good team the lead most of the game and the only reason why Dallas comes back is base on bias calls for the home team and Miami Don’t get half the calls Dallas get Dirk is soft it a shame watching basketball at times. How do you reward some that shot 70 % of their shots and when he drives a slow 7 footer get calls, also Bosh is one of the best jab step Bigs in the league and he don’t get nothing.

I starting to look at this from a different way now ph*ck y’all if you disagree. Report this comment cause im going to make another profile when they delete this one. this shit is becoming to White vs Black, Democrat vs Republican, Blue vs Red, Lovers vs Haters and Finally Mass American Media telling the World That Dallas is better than Miami.

Also, I know Zone Defense is allowed but why not in the season? no 3 seconds on the Defense that’s the only reason why they come back on Miami as well cause the play little defense. Real Ball is Man to Man help defense that is real.

The Suns used a zone last year against the Lakers and worked really well for a few games. I believe people were calling that decision brilliant, not cheating or tainted.

Well if thats the case then I gues the mavs should pick one spot on the floor and stay frozen there the entire time, becuase if they move the heat cant win, STFU

So you mean to tell me stopping the other team is illegal, Well in that case how bout the crab dribble(thats illegal), .

@Euroball ball is man to man, well if thats the case throw out double teaming dirk, or pick and rolls since you said man to man is real ball i guess that means no help from teammates

@EuroBall. STFU. Are you really gonna try and make this a race thing. Geez. If you ask me Dirk realistically shoud have gotten a call on that game winning layup. Not to mention there were SEVERAL questionable calls in game one that had they gone the other way would have lost MIA the game. So let’ not try and take this debate about a zone defense and turn it into a hate everything thread because MIA are suddenly looking beatable.

Mavs could have blown out the Heat if not for Wade.

Even with Wade on the bench Lebron did very little.

If you paid attention you’d know the zone hurt the Mavs in Game 1.

Yeah no matter which team wins this series there should be an asterisk next to it in the record books.  I mean the HEAT dunk the ball a lot and dunking used to be illegal in NCAA basketball.  Bunch of cheaters ay

     How can zone be dirty?

Zone is a form of defense like any other, and if you had grown up anywhere other than the US you would see it that way(I know, the NBA is different, no zone = more amazing plays and less moving the ball for 24 seconds). Zone isn’t a miracle defense that doesn’t require skill and perfectly defends all the opposing players. When I was a kid, we ran plays for zone and we ran plays for man to man and both were effective. You can defeat a zone by reading it and moving the ball.

The Mavs may be the weaker team, but if they win this series just by playing zone, they are the smarter team.

The NBA’s restriction on Zones and Illegal Defenses was a terrible rule back in the day. Can you remember when it was an actual play that teams would run to put a center (like Shaq) outside at the three point line and then hope that the guy guarding him screwed up and got caught under the free throw line for an illegal D and thereby a technical. I can remember Shaq waiving at the guy covering him and complaining that he isn’t being covered close enough while Shaq was standing 25 feet from the basket. Seriously, that was part of the game, yelling at the ref that somehow a defender wasn’t playing you right even though the offensive player had no jumper and couldn’t possibly score from 25 feet. It was a horrible bastardization of basketball. I’m really happy the NBA changed its rules.

Zone is a strategy and a fair one that should be available in any basketball league, just like you can use it in pick up (though people never do).

I thought trade threads were bad, but this takes the cake. The Mavericks are playing fantastic zone defense, and while the Heat mainly play man (as zone against the Mavs, with all of their shooters, would be a death sentence), I see no reason why the Mavs should be reprimanded for doing so. It is working! Their zone has been incredibly successful and has stopped a player who many thought was unstoppable. So every college team who has won a championship has tainted the game as well? Zone defense is actually incredibly difficult to play well, because it usually leaves major openings and can be killed by either quick transition basketball or good shooting. Dallas is one of the only teams that plays it more often than not, and it has been given this ability by having an anchor down low (Tyson Chandler) and three solid perimeter defenders (DeShawn Stevenson, Shawn Marion and Jason Kidd). As you could see yesterday, this was the defense that gave the Heat the most problems. Whoever wins the game at the end of the day is the best team, and yesterday, as much as it may pain me to say it (well, it doesn’t really, because it is true. They just were not the team I was rooting for) that was Dallas.

Now, as far as acting and other stuff tainting the NBA, well, if LeBron James is Robert DeNiro and Dwyane Wade is Al Pacino, than Dirk is freaking Daniel Day-Lewis (who, right now, is probably the best actor in the world). Dirk Nowitzki complained about calls all of the time yesterday, much more so than either LeBron or Wade. Personally, I do not think acting is "tainting the NBA", because I do not think it is a new phenomena. I just think people forget that other players used to try and bait calls and use simple trickery as well. Reggie Miller’s legs used to account for a great number of his FT’s, and Michael Jordan was also charged a hefty dues level for SAG. Still, thought that this should be addressed, because it is not like the Mavericks have been less dramatic than the Heat to that effect. Despite what DeShawn Stevenson, who put on a nice performance yesterday in the flailing arms wildly to try and draw fouls show yesterday, says. Still, the Mavericks zone has been pure gold, and if the Heat do not find a way to take advantage of it, than the Mavericks will win with it. Does not sound like tainting anything to me, sounds like it is making things more competitive if anything. Would have loved to see the Mavericks stop LeBron with the old defensive rules. I mean, I want the Heat too win and all, but saying a team is "Not worthy of the Larry O’Brien trophy", for stopping a team using a legal defense just makes you sound bitter.
