Well today on PTI they said he nicknamed himself sub-zero because he has ice in his vains and freezes people on the court, and earlier this year he said he can’t wait to come to the NBA so he can destroy LeBron. I like his game, but he better produce to back up all his trash talk.

He better to get in that weight room if he thinks he’s going to be destroying anyone in the NBA.

I like that from him. For me its a good thing he’s Arrogant or cocky or confident (however you want to call it). I just hope he can back it up. I dont think there’s anything worse than a basketball player with a big mouth and can not back his shit up.

Who cares? I dont understand this whole "You have to earn your bones" BS. This kid is 18, he gave himself a nickname and said he wanted to destroy the best player in the world. YOu know what i want? A player whose scared of the big moment. Whose intimidated by the stars of the NBA. That makes for a great NBA player.

He reminds me of Ray Allen…

Yeah it seems that his friend gave him the name and he liked it. You pretty much backed you SH*t up after being called out.

@Jammin-Lemon so you’re not even going to acknowledge that Austin Rivers tweeted right after saying what his nickname was that his friend made it up?

I hate the attention Austin Rivers is getting.

If Anthony Davis or Michael Gilchrist told everyone what their friend nicknamed them no one would have cared.

I don’t know if it’s because he’s going to Duke or if it’s because his dad is Doc Rivers, but seriously this kid just graduated highschool…the media needs to stop treating him like some kind of celebrity.

Austin Rivers is absolutely too cocky.  Kinda like the Bryce Harper of Basketball.  Thinks he’s already there when he just graducated high school 2 weeks ago, a high schooler had no right in saying that hes gonna destroy leBron… grown men in the Nba arent even close to destroying LeBron, yet you, and eighteen year old with an amazing, but yet still unprooven, game thinks hes gonna go destroy lebron.  He may destroy kids in High school and he probably will destroy guys in college and he will probably become a great nba player, but saying he was gonna destroy lebron was too much.  Now this nickname is just funny to me.  I wanna see him prove himself before he has a nickame like that.

He better be good. Duke hardly ever recruits brash and cocky players like Rivers. So I am surprise he’s not going to UNC or Kentucky instead.

I just hope Rivers is as good as or better than what Kyrie Irving did in his 8 games before the toe injury.

He did not say he was going to destroy Lebron….

Austin said this weekend that while he admires the NBA’s great players, he, the No. 1 high school prospect in the country, "I don’t want to just meet LeBron, I want to destroy him on the court one day." It is that competitive spirit that has made him such an outstanding player and Austin, who is headed to Duke next season, spend time with Doc yesterday after receiving the Wootten Player of the Year Award in Chicago. Doc, who has encouraged Austin to play fearlessly and with confidence, explained his son’s comments about LeBron James. "The way it’s being portrayed is not exactly what he said," Doc said of Austin’s statement. "He actually said ‘I look up to all those guys but if you’re on the floor with them you want to destroy them, you’ve got to have that mentality.’ So I think he better have that mentality or he will get destroyed. I think that’s good." Boston Globe

I’m not trying to protect Rivers or anything but I hate how he’s getting all this media attention and how the media is twisting his words. I love PTI but it seems like they just want to make a good story. Austin Rivers is cocky but he has to understand that the media likes to twist words and meanings to make a more interesting story. He needs to shut his yap up.
