Memphis MadnessParticipantMy retro comparison for Joel Anthony was Mark West.
A basement comparison for Bismack is Diop and Joel Anthony. Most likely is Theo Ratliff, with an upside of Ben Wallace.
Guys like Bismack have been effective in the playoffs. Joel Anthony has played well and blocked shots, while Serge Ibaka was highly effective for the Thunder.
He needs to be paired with a big man who can score and a point guard who can throw him the ball inside for easy lobs and dunks.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantJoel Anthony doesn’t cost the Heat possessions. Even when it was just Wade’s team, Anthony was a limited beyond belief offensively, but he wasn’t actively turning the ball over. The certainties with Biyombo is that he will try to block everything, he will foul at a high rate, and he will cost the team offensively because he turns it over so much. In 2009-10, he turned it over 3.3 times over 23.8 minutes in the junior level EBA. He turned it over 3.2 times in 21 minutes for Illescas in the LEB Silver. He turned it over 1.7 times in 16.6 minutes for Fuenlabrada. He isn’t going to magically stop turning it over in the NBA.
It is ridiculous that someone who played less than 17 minutes per game off the bench for a middling cash-strapped club could be viewed as NBA ready. He wasn’t on the court at the end of games for his Spanish club, and was elevated because Esteban Batista needed to be sold off. What about that resume says "NBA ready" to anyone who actually knows anything about the NBA? The team that drafts him better hope he is good enough to have the rookie year of Larry Sanders or Ekpe Udoh. Whoever takes him is going to need to protect him (like Smart and Skiles did Udoh and Sanders), and hope he shows enough to merit being a project. This is the same story every year. He might not be the headache of Sean Williams, but Williams was a bum on the court and off. Amir Johnson took years to become useful, and he got that time because he was a cheap second round pick. Cedric Simmons is an elite shot blocker in Europe, but being a limited offensive player who fouls and turns the ball over doesn’t work out so well in the NBA. If you disagree with that notion, then you also ought to be lining up behind Shawn James, Salah Mejri, Bryant Dunston, Chinemelu Elonu, and a Cedric Simmons comeback too.
Ben Wallace didn’t foul or turn the ball over. He also was only considered to be elite when surrounded by Chauncey Billups, Rip Hamilton, Tayshawn Prince, and Rasheed Wallace. Theo Ratliff wasn’t turnover prone and at his best wasn’t foul prone, and even then the only time he was viewed as being an All-Star was with Allen Iverson. Serge Ibaka gets to be what he is because of Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. Joakim Noah and Taj Gibson get to be who they are because of Derrick Rose. Where are the lottery teams this year who have those kind of elite players where the star can protect a player from his limitations? John Wall needs to make the leap as a scorer for that to happen, and they already have their collection of bad big men with McGee, Blatche, Seraphin, and Ndiaye. Ellis and Curry haven’t been able to do it for Biedrins, Wright, Randolph, Udoh, or Amundson. What changed? The Bobcats couldn’t do for Tyson Chandler what the Hornets and Mavs have. Houston hasn’t been able to make Jordan Hill look good. Cleveland? Please. What is the argument for Biyombo to fare better than Larry Sanders in Milwaukee? Minnesota has Biyombo 1.0 with Darko. Don’t forget that Milicic is a physically elite big man who blocks shots at an elite level. He can block shots, but he isn’t Dwight Howard ans the same is the case of Biyombo.
