Should The Pistons Draft Another European Player

What do you mean another Euro player. Get over the Darko pick, that was 7 years ago, move on. Draft the best player available, even if it’s a Euro player.

darko got traded because he was horrible in detroit, couldnt even get on the court, it doesnt matter if its a euro player take the best available, the pistons need help at every position except C (Greg Monroe) so they should take the best player…..and are you asking that would they trade Jonas Valanciunas because hes european? i dont get what you trying to say

jimmer fredette would not be a good fit at all in detroit, and definitly not worth the 8th overall pick, marshon brooks looks like he could be a good solid pro but at 8? no chance, if your thinking guard at 8 you need to go with value…best value would either be Burks or maybe if Kemba is available

I think Larry Brown wasted Milicic.  If a young and raw player like Darko back when he was 18 didn’t get any change to play and develop (too bad the NBDL wasn’t as developed back in the days).  It’s tough for the player to develop.  I also questioned whether they hired specific player development coach to work with Darko.

I think it’s very important when a team drafts a project with high potential, the team should also hire a coach to help develop the player.

That’s why I think if the Raptors draft a project like Bismack Biyombo, they should also hire a big man coach to develop him.  Preferrably Clifford Ray if he can still work.

assume that rip, prince and mcgrady won’t be back next year cause they won’t.

now what are they going to do with the pick. they already have good depth at those positions.

If he is 6’9" and up and plays with force….yes you draft him. Darko was on the wrnog team to be a raw talent. He couldn’t get on the floor. Big Ben,Sheed, and McDyese = no pt.

I think Stuckey is gone, they may sign and trade him for a C or Sf(they should make a play for Caron Butler if the price is right)…the Wolves need to play Monroe at Pf more and let Kemba and Ben Gordon score points in bunches…If they add jeremy Lamb next year to take over at Sg and getting their defensive C and Sf this Summer and they’ll be on their way… I would go after Caron Butler and Thabeet(I know he’s still very raw and his value is at a all time low but I think he can still work out in Detroit, he and Caron could be had for Stuckey, Prince, T MAC and Maxiel…they should he able to sign Butler out right but IDK…

 they need a center worse than they need a point guard. there are three great ones next yr that they can draft in Teague, Rivers, and Kabongo

If Valanciunas fell all the way to eight, I’d go crazy. I wouldnt mine having Biyombo either, but i’m extremely high on Valanciunas.

The Pistons need a point guard who can distribute. They have guys with a proven track record for scoring, but they need someone to get it to them. That has to be the top priority.

Bum big men do not interest me. Valanciunas and Biyombo have horrible value in the lottery because they can’t help a bad team get better. Neither of them can stay out of foul trouble, they both turn the ball over all the time, and neither is good offensively (though Jonas is far superior to Biyombo). There is no value there. Lottery picks get paid contributor money, and neither of them are ready to contribute anything but a few blocked shots, a few fouls, and a few turnovers. That doesn’t make a bad team better. Now, if Detroit goes with a European prospect at #33 or #52, it is a different story. Albicy is tiny, but he is a true distributor who has done well in France. Leon Radosevic is a big, long guy who can be functional off the bench. Shermadini is a giant who can be stashed abroad and hope he figures out how to be more efficient while being off the Piston payroll. Tomislav Zubcic has some Euro-Daye qualities to him, and he could stay abroad awhile.

In my opinion, the Pistons are one of those teams in no mans land. They dont have many peices to move or play. The best players they have are Monroe, and jerebko if he can regain form and continue to improve. stuckey is decent, and beyond that they need talent. If Ausin Daye can give them solid minutes at the three, than than possibly reaching a little to get Jordon Hamilton might be an option. So your lineup of the future is Stuckey, Hamilton(Jordon), Daye, Jerebko, and Monroe + 3 more solid lottery picks. Even if those guys continue to improve, they need more quality pieces, so they would have to draft well for the next 3-4 years to be in contention for a playoff spot. And also wait for vilanueva and Gordon’s contract to expire, to sign a guys like Buillups or Nash for a discount, they way they were signed in the early 2000s.

Any European drafted after Darko by Detroit will get unfair comparisons to him simply because of his nationality.

The Pistons are in good shape to turn the corner, with a new billionare owner, expiring free agent contracts, head coaching vacancy, youth on the team, and 3 draft picks coming up in this draft, this will be a critical turning point for the franchise.

The question will be which direction will they go? They are a mostly offensive team these days, and coming off a season full of injuries and problems with their head coach.

The Pistons biggest need will be at center, considering Ben Wallace was their work horse when he was healthy this season, it’s a pretty poor sight to watch Ben Wallace in his oldness guarding the paint and the basket. If he’s not retiring this summer, it will be at the end of next season.

Greg Monroe is a great talent at PF, but he’s not physical or strong enough to be their legit center even though they played him there a lot this season. Then again, they played Tayshaun Prince at PF a lot too, so they need some depth at the big spot badly.

If Tayshaun Prince leaves in free agency, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Pistons end up drafting Kawhai Leonard or Jan Vesely. If Jonas Valanciunias is available at the 8th pick, I think they’ll take him. It will be interesting to see what may they may pick if either Brandon Knight or Kemba Walker are still available at the 8th pick, which I doubt will happen.
