NbanflguyParticipantSo the NBA has some very well known floppers in the league(Manu). On ESPN i hear the anaylists say that they think its a smart play and stuff like that. What do you guys feel about floppers? Would you ever do it? I play soccer and basketball (both huge flopper sports) and if anyone every flopped on me i would probally throw the ball at their face. Cant stand it.

bksmithParticipantAfter game 1 there was a thread about Jason Terry flopping on a 3 in the corner and complaining to the ref that it did not get called. He flopped for sure but everyone was all over him for doing it.
At the end of game 2 when Wade heaved the buzzer beater he fell right to the floor hoping for the call. Nothing was called.
I guess turn about is fair play.

HaleParticipantI saw the Wade thing, that made me mad. I didn’t see any of game 1 so I can’t comment on Terry.
BTW flopping in my opinion is never ok, play like a man.

chevilicousParticipantKinda like when lebron flopped, pretended he got poked in the eye, then got up and winked at spolstra? That was just riddiculous.

BBall4life88ParticipantI don’t flop because I’ve grown up playing street ball or pick up basketball where you play through contact because you’re not rewarded for flopping, you don’t go to the free throw line you just get the ball back at the top of the key. I like to think that I always want to beat people fair and square but if it was my job and money was on the line and it was a big game I would absoluteley flop and wouldn’t feel ashamed of doing it…so in that sense i don’t have a problem with players flopping at all, but I have a huge problem with the refs calling the flops, because they’re just rewarding it. And it’s fairly easy to spot a flop because they always fall down and overreact.

omphalosParticipantAnyone see Barea’s full-court flopping display? He picked up Chalmers full-court and took a dozen tiny steps back every time Chalmers made the slightest contact. I hate the Heat, but that was weak, Barea tries to use his size to draw offensive fouls far too much.

BBall4life88ParticipantLol, i saw that too. It’s good that the refs aren’t rewarding his flops but it’s worked for him in the past so it’s worth a shot, but it kinda makes him look like an idiot.

butidonthavemoney"Flopping" is simply exaggerating contact, and there is nothing wrong with it. It isn’t unsportsmanlike, nor is it some kind of weakness. The idiots are the players who don’t attempt to draw fouls by "flopping".
A drawn charge is worth twice as much as a blocked shot. My hat goes off to the players intelligent enough to realize that.

marcusfizer21ParticipantI remember the Bosh flop on Boozer in a regular season game… He fell down after "getting hit" by the elbow of Boozer but the replays show the truth… He didn’t get hit at all… looool… watta puss…
Good thing that he went 1/18 in bad karma…lol

doubledribblerParticipantPersonally, I am having a lot of problems with what I am seeing in terms of flopping. Guys are going out there flopping around like fish hoping to get calls and a lot of the time they get the calls. Two of the most obvious ones last night were the one by Barea picking up Chalmers and then at the end of the game Wade acting like someone touched him. It’s really lame to watch some of the best players in the world play like punks. I do understand if you actually get fouled sometimes you have to sell it to make sure you get the call you earned, especially when you are a bigger guy. You can’t get hacked and then just be unfazed or not lose your ground because it’s easier to pass off. It’s just hard to watch these guys crumple to the ground like a 2 year old getting ready to start a tantrum. I just don’t get how guys think of some of this stuff during the course of a game. Any time I have ever played it’s always been let’s play.
It’s not just on defense that flopping bothers me though. It’s also on offense when guys (mostly perimeter players) hurl themselves into defenders and get the call. I call it the Russell Westbrook. There is nothing wrong with trying to draw contact, but what’s up with running full steam into a stationary bigger guy and throwing up a shot to get some free throws?

TMoney617ParticipantWade didnt flop he actually got hit in the face by Dirk on that last shot but he probably didnt need to fall. I totally agree with that barea thing he’s been doing that during the whole playoffs

ChrischiParticipantI hate it when the commentators say: "Good job at selling the contact."
I see enough pussys flopping when I watch soccer so please not in basketball.

M-DYMESParticipantWhen I was in HS, I remember one game where I was chasing a guy from behind on a fastbreak and swatted the ball from behind. I was well ahead of the refs so all they saw was my back and the kid in front of me. It was a clean block, but it looked unreal b/c I am relatively short in terms of basketball. When I swatted it, the kid fell straight to the ground and started tearing up and grabbing his back like I pushed him hard onto the floor when I didn’t even touch him. Next thing I know, I got a flagrant foul and was ejected from the game and suspended from the next as a result.
Therefore…I hate floppers.
