canesboy6ParticipantI used to be a big fan of his. I loved that Kings team that went toe to toe with the Lakeshow. Then, for Atlanta he embraced being a solid role player. I was exstatic when my Heat landed him.
But good lord, since we got him, he has been as bad as any NBA player I have ever seen. ESPN actually had a PER stat saying he was as inneffective as any playoff starter in NBA history, and its true. He contributes nothing, very rarely does anything good, and has been careless and erratic with the ball and his jumper as well.
My Question is, what the heck happened? A year ago, he was a competent starter and now he looks like a fringe D-League player. And More Importantly, Why won’t Spoelstra man up and bench him? Don’t get me wrong, I hate Chalmers but he is an upgrade over Bibby.
Man we need a PG in the draft. We are going to win it all this year, but moving forward, that spot is a glaring weakness.

steviechillzParticipantYeah I was a huge fan of Bibbys. Bibby should still start for now bc they havent lost more than one game in a series and im sure this slump wont last ALL of the games in the finals. He’s only playing about 12mins a game so it’s not like hes hurting his team that bad. Now I do agree they should insert Chalmers to the line-up, but for now, it looks like they will be okay.
Now to the second part of your post: Chalmers is very underrated and i think you might be underestimating his worth. He had a good game tonight 12pts, an assists and a steal, played pretty good D tonight, and had a 8+ in the +/- category. For the playoffs his averages are 6ppg, 1.5apg, about 2rpg and hes doing it in only 22mpg. I do not think the Heat want a PG who needs the ball in his hands to be effective type PG. I think they need someone like Chalmers who can set up the offense, play good defense, hit the three, and some one who can let Lebron and Wade run the show. I think Chalmers is a good fit and I have been high on him since his days at Kansas. The kid is a winner and i think can be better than you think

RUDEBOY_ParticipantBibby is no longer a reliable starter in this league..Playing with 2 creative players like Wade & Lebron should make his easier becuz all he has to do is hit open shots and guard the other team’s point guard and he cant do either..
I really dont see his game getting back to the point it was it 2 years ago….

KayjayParticipantMaybe he’s there to make the bench more productive. If Chalmers is on the bench,it does miami good because chalmers can knock down shots at times. Bibby is a bit of ass right now, I won’t lie. But its been working so far hasn’t it? Bibby still spreads the floor and is still hustling using his veteran presence by moving with out the ball. He is no where near the player he used to be, which is why he’s on the Heats team in the first place. Same with Dampier and Juwuan Howard. These guys want one more big bang before they go out, can you blame them?

iguapops420ParticipantBibby is no worse than Fisher. He’s been getting burnt by d-league talent pg’s since 02. Bibby is old and deterriorating. It’s to be expected. When he comes up big with one or two shots or a good game or so it’s gonna be funny how quickly you all forget about this crap. He still blows.

marcusfizer21ParticipantI love Mike Bibby… If there is a reason why I’m happy should the Heat win it all, it’s because of him… I admire him during his Sacramento days and even up to now, I have respect for him as a ball player…

PlatypusParticipantif they go guard in the draft: SHELVIN MACK, perfect fit, one of the best fits in the draft for a team
if they go center in the draft: there isnt one that fits this team but if they choose to go big over point then KEITH BENSON, he has the size and just needs to hit the gym and gain some weight, he is a decent free throw shooter so it could work if forced

Memphis MadnessParticipantBibby might get a ring, Fisher has 5, Paxon has 3, Kenny Smith has 2, an over-the-hill Avery Johnson has one, and an old Gary Payton/J-Will combo has 1. Maybe the point guard position is overrated.
The Heat could plug Chalmers and a generic veteran point guard to be announced into the point guard position and they would be the favorites next year.
Shelvin Mack would be a great pick for them. He could probably play for them in Game 2 and give them what Mike Bibby does (and more). Not only can he handle the ball (which Chalmers, Wade, LeBron, and Mike Miller can do) but he is a great 3 point shooter. That would make him very dangerous on the Heat. Mack also has good size and strength. … if they look at other point guards then Isaiah Thomas has ELITE speed and good skills. He might be the guy that could break open games for them.
Other than that, they might just need to take the best player available. The 7 man rotation of LeBron, Wade, Bosh, Anthony, Chalmers, Haslem, and Miller is great. I think they should bring back one of the veteran centers, then they have Pittman for next year, so they don’t really need anything other than a point guard. But, they might need to get a veteran point guard if they can’t get a high level point guard at 31. At worst they can bring in a few undrafted rookies into training camp next year (most likely Kalin Lucas, Ben Hansbrough, etc.). They can pretty much bring back those main 7 guys along with Pittman, a generic 7 foot veteran big man, and an above-average D League combo guard who can hit the 3 and handle the ball and they would be the favorites to win it all.
So they can afford to roll the dice and go for the guy with the best upside assuming they can live with the downside (i.e., what is the guy’s basement? if he doesn’t work out can we bring in a D League guy to fill his spot?).
If I were them I would have a list of best available guys (maybe Selby, Mack, Benson, Leuer, Parsons), then a list of the top 2nd round guys at each position. Bring those guys in along with some guys who might not get drafted. Then draft a player they want at 31 then bring in a couple of guys who weren’t drafted and put them in the D League. Maybe go with a point guard, a center, and then a good athletic player to round out the rotation of guys they can put on the roster either this year or next year.
