Today on PTI Mike Wilbon stated he has good source saying the bulls will spend their time this offseason going after Dwight Howard.  I dont know how true this is but Wilbon is pretty close with the Chicago area.  He might be brewing something up here.

Not me saying this just what was said on PTI.

I’m not doubting the bulls would do that just as I’m sure many teams will if Dwight is available. Question is if the magic do realize dh ain’t staying, then they will look for the best offer and I’m not sure the bulls have the pieces to make the best offer. Seriously what would the bulls offer that would entice the magic? Maybe Noah, deng a half dozen draft picks and take hedos contract off our hands as well would get it done

The Magics can get better pieces for Howard, than what the Bulls has to offer.

I love Dwight Howard and would be thrilled to see him paired up with Rose. But I don’t want to see them give away the core to a team that just made the ECF and played the Heat tougher than the Celtics. They are 1 or 2 minor pieces away from being a complete team. I want Rose, Deng, Noah and Taj to stick around for a while.

If they were to trade away Deng, Noah, Asik and others for a guy like Dwight, what happens when he gets in foul trouble late in games? Rose is by himself again.

Just get him a shooter, their bigs are fine and will continue to get better.

Daneboy, I’m sure you are like me in that we value our players, maybe more then others. But reality is Dwight plus rose plus a handful of contributors is major scary and I would subtract guys like deng, Noah, Gibson and boozer in a heartbeat to make it happen.

Dwight changes the game like no one else in the NBA (yes even more then LeBron), so if you have to give up Deng, Noah, Asik, and half your draft picks for the next decade you do it. Centers are hard to come by, especially ones that put up 20-11, and play the best defense in the NBA. Team him up with arguably the best point guard in the NBA, a low post scorer in Boozer, and some other veterans who would die to play on that team, and you might be on to something special.

The Bulls are 5x better with Howard thogh Daneby. I’d give the Magic Noah, Gibson, watson, Asik, and a first rounder if they wanted it straight up for Howard. Deng needs to be kept to guard opposing wings and pose at least somewhat of a threat on offense. Remember, weare talking about a top 3-5 playerright now in Dwight.

    Jammin,

I proposed that trade yesterday (and previously). I think it works for both sides.

Anyone who trades for Howard is taking back one of Magic’s bad contracts. So if the Bulls were willing to take back Turk or Gelbert with Howard I could see something happening.

Magic WILL NEVER GET BACK ANYTHING CLOSE TO HOWARD… So it becomes a quality over quantiy.

I could see something like this… Noah, Deng, Gibson, both 1st rounders this year and Bobcats 1st that the Bulls have.

    for

    Howard and Turk…

Before you guys say no way… Thats SIX players for one superstar that they most likely will not be able to sign after this season.

I understand the points that everyone is making, like I said, Rose and Howard would be a great tandem. Howard would open up the lane for Rose to do some serious damage. I just think they could go another route, keep their core together, and be just as much a contender.

Howard is the best defnsive player in the league but the Bulls are already arguably the best defensive team…statistically they are. And ask the Heat if they faced a tougher defensive team then them.

I wouldn’t be upset if they pulled the trigger on a trade like that but I just really like the team they have. Just need some tweaking.

What about Howard. Turk, Ryan Anderson for Noah, Deng, Brewer, and Watson. The Bulls throw in a couple picks to sweeten the deal and it works out for both sides. The Bulls get two big men that can stretch the floor in Anderson and Turk with not to mention DH12 who nothing more needs to be said. The Magic get decent return in a center that can play defense somewhat as well and that has a motor constantly running in Noah; Deng who is a quality SF who would have to put the team on his back for the future which could be good for him; Brewer is there to match salaries to be honest but he could thrive in a different system; Watson is also there to match salaries but has less potential than Brewer. I think something like this could be put together to make the lineups look like:

Bulls: Rose, Bogans, Turkoglu, Boozer, Howard.

Magic: Nelson, Richardson, Deng, Bass, Noah.

I heard Orlando isn’t planning on bringing back Jason Richardson but that deal looks good.

I think if they trade, it would look something like this Howard to the Bulls. Maybe some picks and some low contract guys.

I think it would make the Bulls stronger because Miami would have a tough time dealing with Howard. The Bulls would probably remain a top 5 defensive team because of him, too

The problem is that they lose a bunch of talented players, picks and have to carry Gilberts sucky contract. It would probably take them a few years to get a deeper team.

I think this trade wouldn’t be to bad for Orlando either, if Howard says that he definetly wants to get out of there. Add a few scorers and I think they have a 50+ win team. They also got rid of Gilbert which should be close to impossible.

But I really don’t see it happen.

Look, if the Magic decide to cash out Howard, then the Bulls should be jumping at the opportunity. As constructed, I’m not sure the Bulls will be able to dethrone Miami in the East over the next few years. As we saw with the Heat, playoff runs are fueled by talent. The Bulls have some good pieces, but only one true superstar in Rose.

Here’s a deal to shake things up:

    http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=3jpxcrw

Certainly far-fetched, but trading Howard will be far frome simple.

This deal assumes several things, like Denver taking Biedrin’s contract, and Golden State actually wanting to make the swap, but I think the parameters of the deal are sound, so let me know what you think.

bulls basically getting rid of half the team but will be on of the scariest teams:

    Derrick Rose
    Gilbert Arenas
    Luol Deng/Hedo Turkoglu/Rasual Butler
    Taj Gibson/Brian Scalabrine
    Dwight Howard/Kurt Thomas
*add 2 first round picks and free agency actions

Orlando if feel Howard will not sign extension and need to get somthing instead of nothing out of him, they get two very good bigs that will kept them much competitive and get rid from two of the worst contract in the league, Orlando will stay very good with better flexibility:

    Jameer Nelson/C.J. Watson/Chris Duhon
    Jason Richardson/J.J. Redick/Kyle Korver
    Ronnie Brewer/Earl Clark/Quentin Richardson
    Carlos Boozer/Brandon Bass/Ryan Anderson
    Joakim Noah/Daniel Orton/Omer Asik

it’s very risky and complicated move for both teams, so i don’t know what to think about that but it’s the only realistic trade option between the two.

    I’m guessing

Noah,Gibson Brewer,Korver and 2 1st round picks for Howard and filler could do it.

Do you guys understand the cap? There is no way in hell Boozer will be part of that trade. The Magic will look to get rid of long term BAD contracts… Bring in PLAYER and PICKS that have value to them in the long run. Deng and Noah are under long term contracts, but have value in the NBA so if the Magic wanted to they could flip those two for picks and blow the whole thing up and start from new.

Also chrischi that trade would never happen… You traded away every C and PF the bulls had for one Player.

If they gave up only that in the trade you suggested (Noah, Deng and Asik), for Dwight Howard, they need to do it. I understand what you are saying in that they played great defense and all, but they lost in 5 games. It would indeed be tough making up for Deng, that could be an issue, but I am not sure you do not try and take the next step of adding that other superstar to compete with a Heat team that has two of the biggest and a much better third option we learned than Carlos Boozer.

Also, when you say "Just get him a shooter", that means they will more than likely have to give up some depth for that as well. Unless they hit the lotto at the 28th and 30th picks, which rarely happens, as much as people seem to believe otherwise, than they will have to get up a pretty valuable piece of front court depth for an SG to play next to D-Rose. All of their wing players besides Deng (and possibly even Deng, given his usual history of missing games and his 8 figure contract) have little to no trade value. That will place the onus on of course Taj Gibson and Omer Asik.

I think if they can get Dwight Howard, they need to jump at it. Yes, foul trouble would be a worry, and they may have little depth, but Dwight is better than Joakim Noah in nearly every factor of the game. Indeed, the Heat would have faced a much more formidable defense with Dwight in there and moving Ronnie Brewer to the 3. That defense would be scary, their current defense is good, but as we just saw, beatable.

I am not so sure exactly what they would have to give up to get Dwight, but it would surely be formidable, to the tune of what you suggested. Nonetheless, if they have a chance to get Dwight Howard, they HAVE to take it. I do not know if minor tweaks will beat a Heat team that will, barring injury, be much better next year. Dwight Howard, Derrick Rose and Carlos Boozer would be much more intimidating to the Heat than the team they have right now, and Dwight would really help spread the floor on offense as well. After getting next to nothing from Joakim Noah, and Asik having little potential in said category, Dwight would be a huge asset. Boozer would benefit substantially, Rose would have someone to take the pressure off and their shooters would be getting so many more open looks. Honestly, if they somehow found a way to keep Taj Gibson and Ronnie Brewer, I think depth would not be as big an issue as you would think. Sign a couple vets to minimum deals, you would be cool. Right now, their are very few SG’s who seem economical to really help the Bulls out the way this trade would. I for one think their is little way this trade happens, but if it did, I would be incredibly happy if I were a Bulls fan.

All I am saying is that even with Howard, the Bulls don’t have anyone but Rose who can create his own shot. That, in my opinion, is a much bigger need than a defensive center. Being big and defensive down low wasn’t a problem for them this season. The Heat beat them on the perimeter for the most part. Wade and LeBron had a hard time getting to the rim all series. Bosh did most of his damage hitting the 10-12ft jumper and beating Boozer off the dribble.

With Howard being a liability at the free throw line, he isn’t an end of the game, take over player, because teams just foul him. What they need is a guy on the perimeter to take the load off of Rose so teams just don’t double and triple team him knowing no one else can handle the ball.

I have no idea what J-Rich’s contract is but if was thrown in with D12, the Bulls get another guy who can create offense for himself.

People who say the Bulls should not look at this trade cause your team was close this year are wrong. Whenever you have a shot to get the second best player and by far the best C in the NBA you go for it.

One thing I give to the Heat last year off season… They went for broke to get the best players on there team… and look at them now!

If the Bulls are willing to take on Arenas’s contract and trade Deng with Noah, it may happen. Of course Dwight would have to sign an extention first.

I could definitely see this trade happening.  If the bulls offered Boozer, Noah, and three first round draft picks for Howard and Bass the Magic couldn’t really say no.  The bulls still retain their depth in the front court by retaining Asik and Gibson, plus they can sign a shooting guard like Jason Richardson, J.R. Smith, or Jamal Crawford in the offseason using the midlevel exception.  The bulls definitely need to upgrade at shooting guard to win the championship next season.  However, the shooting guard they get needs to be able to slash and finish, shoot threes, and play a reasonable amount of defense (Thibs can handle that).   All of these guys can do those things well.  The Magic get a lot in this deal as well.  They get a solid center in Noah who is still improving, an All-Star calibur power forward in Boozer and three picks to rebuild their team.

I could also see this trade happening. Howard, Bass, and Arenas for Boozer, Noah, Deng, Watson, and two first round draft picks (1 2011 and 1 2012).  Even though Deng has a large contract, he is still a young player in his prime so he has a lot of value.  The Magic could trade him amongst other players to start rebuilding their team.  They also get rid of Arenas’s contract so they free up a lot of cap room in the future.   Even though the Bulls would have to take on Arenas’s absurd contract, he would be a perfect back-up point guard for Derrick rose.  He’s a guy who can still shoot the three and finish at the rim (to a degree).   He could easily average 10-13 points a night with only 20-25 minutes.  Even though the Bulls would have to give up a great role player in Deng, his contributions can be replaced through the signing of a player such as  J.R. Smith, Jamal Crawford or Jason Richardson.  Dwight Howard would also cover up the loss of Deng on the defensive end.   I think in this scenario Richardson would be the best fit because he is tall enough to play the SF at times but would start at sg.  A potential starting lineup of Rose, Richardson/Smith, Brewer, Bass, and Howard would pose a major threat to the Miami Heat.  Plus the bulls would still have one of the best benches in the league with Arenas, Korver, Gibson, Bogans, and Asik.    The bulls could also trade their other first round pick in 2011 along with Bogans for Courtney Lee to become stronger at the two guard position.
