JPBrayParticipantI wonder how bad Chicago front office is kicking themselves for not finding a way to add a sg at any point this season. A first round pick for Rudy Fernandez, 2 2nd rd picks for Anthony Parker, or giving up Hinrich before they knew who they were gonna sign. With the games against Miami being so close and the real issue being no creating help for Rose, any of those guys could have bridged the gap to win this series. The lack of a deal, which could be overpayments on the Bulls part, looks to me like the front office didn’t see the Bulls making it as far as they did.
I think there is a lot of bashing of Carlos Boozer from the playoffs, and rightfully so in some cases. However, there is no way I try to trade Boozer. If he is healthy in the preseason, his defensive rotations are improved by learning the defense better. He suffered some aggravating injuries, as usual, but he can still be a vital part to the Bulls success.
Also, what would be your plan to upgrade that position for the Bulls this offseason?
My plan would be to offer Gibson to Houston for Courtney Lee. You can’t pay Gibson what he will want after next year as the 3rd big, and by then possibly the 4th with Asik’s growth, but you can pay money for a starting sg. I’d then use the 2 picks in this years 1st rd to add another wing player, and grab an upperclass post player to replace Gibson’s work ethic and energy.

surveParticipantWhile the Bulls obviously need help at that position…I dont think the guys you mentioned wouldve made a difference. A difference maker in the Bulls situation would be guys like Harden, J.R. Smith, O.J. Mayo, etc….guys who can create for themselves as well as take the pressure off of D-Rose. What SG did they SERIOUSLY have a chance to get…not being funny but I dont know of one. As much as he was talked about being moved…I dont think the Grizz were going to give up Mayo for little of nothing…they still kinda like Mayo.

mikeyvthedonParticipantPeople, give these guys a break. They were a team with a bunch of new pieces, very few of whom were able to do much offensively, going up a team with two of the best players in the game and one of the best PF’s. If they would have traded for Rudy, than I am fairly convinced Dwyane Wade would have had a much better series, regardless of what was bothering him. Rudy could not even body Steve Nash last year, and as much as I like him, that would not bode well for Dwyane Wade. Anthony Parker is a Euroleague legend, and plays very hard, but he is a much better perimeter defender than he is going up against slashers like Dwyane Wade. He was burned by Rondo last year, and Dwyane Wade burns people too. I do not see much of a difference between Parker and Bogans at this point, maybe Parker is a slightly more consistent shooter, but Bogans played very nice defense.
Here is what I would do: chill out and let the Bulls try to address their issues. It is all you can do, I would have little expectations if the Bulls keep their picks at 28 and 30 and I would think that the Bulls will indeed try to find an upgrade at two guard. However, it would also be fantastic if they improved their perimeter shooting at the wing positions, as Kyle Korver is really the only guy you would want taking three point shots. Not having any real viable back-up for Luol Deng should be addressed, as Ronnie Brewer is really more of a guard. It is easier said than done getting a 2 that can create their own shot, neither Rudy or Parker have been much good at doing that, and maybe Courtney Lee would be a decent alternative. Nonetheless, this team should probably get a little more athletic at the wing, and really hope that Joakim Noah improves his offensive repetoire. If that guy could take advantage of his athleticism and size, than they would have been much more of a match-up for the Heat. To me, he had the most disappointing series of any Bulls player. You love his heart and hustle, but he provided so little offensively, it completely clogged the lane.

JPBrayParticipantI think Fernandez could do a little to create his own shot, as he had some really nice moments in Portland this season. However, his defense does cause issues, just as Korver’s does. The Bulls were hoping for a dead ball after every play to sub Brewer and Korver like defense and offense in football.
As far as legit names they had shots with, there were a few, but the prices seemed steep. Houston was willing to part with Lee for Asik, which the Bulls balked at not wanting to break up what they had going. Also, Parker for 2 2nd rd picks was another tabled rumor from Chicago media. But the Bulls front office made little attempt to pry players away. How many guys sit on the bench somewhere that could have helped? Dahntay Jones served the role in Denver and sit in Indiana. Corey Brewer was waived, at least he would be a minor shooting upgrade to Ronnie Brewer, and can get to the basket. Why sign Rasual Butler and not work him in during regular season, making him useless in post season?
I agree the Bulls are young, and will continue to improve, and this Heat Bulls rivalry will be interesting for a long time, but I think as close as the games in this series, the Bulls front office short changed the current team with assets of 2 1st rd picks this year, short contracts for Bogans, Brewer and Charlotte’s future 1st rd pick

Moon RiverParticipantMark Spears of yahoo was on the local radio in Chicago about a week ago and said Melo would "definitely" have come to the Bulls. All they had to do was part with Noah. Do you think the Bulls could have closed out game 4 or 5 with the ball in Melo’s hands? I do. I think not getting Melo was a huge mistake because now, as pointed out above, unless someone is willing to trade a quality SG to the Bulls, there definitely is not much in free agency to address the SG problem or obtain another "Max Contract" guy to make sure the Bulls can compete with the Heat for the next half decade.
Also, this morning on the radio, Lebron reportedly went to D. Rose’s brother after the game and told him D. Rose is one superstar away from getting a title. What is Lebron’s point of reference?

Memphis MadnessParticipantCuseGuy,
Yep, the Bulls need a superstar. If Dwight Howard is threatening to leave Orlando then the Magic should trade him to the Bulls for Noah, Gibson, Brewer, and picks.
The Bulls would get their superstar, and the Magic would get two good young players to build around along with a good vet in Ronnie Brewer along with some draft picks.
Some Magic fans might not think that this would be enough, but Noah and Gibson are young and improving and Boozer and Deng make too much money and aren’t guys you can build a young team around.
The Magic would have a decent young core in Noah, Gibson, Brandon Bass, Ryan Anderson, and JJ Reddick to go along with some draft picks (probably the 28th and 30th picks this year), Ronnie Brewer’s defense and overall effort, to go along with the scoring and outside shooting of Jameer Nelson. Jason Richardson would still be there and would be more of a go-to guy with Hedo being a classic veteran 6th man. That would be a pretty good team for perimeter scoring with solid rebounding, defense, and shot blocking up front with Noah, Gibson, and Brandon Bass. That should be enough to get into the first round again (if they draft well).

FritzParticipantBefore I was against giving up Noah for Anthony. But now, I feel like Melo would of made such a huge difference in this series. I feel just adding Melo to this Bulls team would of made Derrick Rose so much more effective. I love Noah, and Deng, but just thinking long term on this one I dont think we will ever get anyone to help Rose near the Caliber or Melo unless Dwight Howard somehow comes to Chicago. I really hope this team doesn’t give up Gibson. Because if he leaves and Boozer is our only PF then we will be screwed because Boozer isn’t even healthy half the time nor has he played anywhere near what his contract is worth.
Just makes me so mad. WHAT IF this team got Stoudamire instead of Boozer? I know for sure the Bulls-Heat series would of went more than 5…… as a Bulls fan this is the most frustrating. The Bulls had the best team in place with cap room during the free agency, and we failed to get Lebron, Wade, Bosh, Amare, Joe Johnson….any of them instead of Boozer makes this a lot more scary. Boozer came here for his low post offense and has not taken one bit of pressure off Rose and his defense is a liability.

If only the Blazers knew that Bowie wouldn’t be as good as Jordan.

Ghost01ParticipantIm going to be the one laughing at my fellow Bulls fans when they get all psyched we signed JR Smith then to realize JR Smith is JR Smith. The same guy we cut 5 years ago.
We need a legit "Creat your own shot" guy.
