TallmanNYCParticipantNikola Vucevic put together some very strange jump results. His no step was 23.5" which is low but he is a very big heavy guy, so not shocking. What is shocking is that his "max vertical" was only 25". So the guy gains only 1.5" more height when allowed to take a running jump than from a standing jump. Obviously something really bad is going on here. I’d love to see video of this because it must be the slowest most ungainly attempts at jumping ever because really how can you only gain 1.5" from a running jump? If you look at his agility times they weren’t quite as terrible.
Did the guy trip while trying to do his max vertical test and then flee the room in embarrasment?

JNixonParticipantNick Young had a 39" inch no-step vert, and it only went to 40.5, so he only had a 1.5 inch increase as well. Must be something they’re feeding them in Trojan Land.
Vucevic’s game isn’t based on athleticism anyway. Besides him not being athlete, he has a good post game, face-up. He’s one of the most skilled PF/C’s in this draft.

BasterdInABasketParticipantMight be something with how he jumps. If youre a two footed jumper that added momentum wont help as much if youre a one footed leaper.

TallmanNYCParticipantRight, if you don’t know how to jump off of two feet. You can add your momentum to a two foot jump. Volleyball players do almost all of their spikes off of two foot jumps and they have running approaches in which they load their legs for maximum vertical.
Vucevic and Young must be doing something wrong to get such little separation between their two types of jumps.

Shocking development!
Man who plays basketball well but not prolific jumper has better rookie season than record setting leaper who has no clue how to play basketball!!!

TheLastWordParticipantI don’t put too much stock into the max verticals. Players only acheive this under ideal conditions (usually fast breaks). Centers generally can’t jump, they are human freaks after all. If they have elite reach like Vucevic and Cousins have though, its not an issue. He is averaging 12 rebounds and 2 blocks per 40 in his rookie campaign.

JoeWolf1Dude’s standing reach is 9’4.5”, not really an issue. Even with his modest vert he can get his hand 1 foot and 5.5 inches over the rim…

PulseGlazerParticipantJumping ability is less important than commonly believed. I greatly prefer lateral quickness.
