Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantBrian Shaw was robbed. He’s been there too long to not get the spot.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 05/24/2011 - 7:39pm #535636

Scottoant93ParticipantBrain Shaw should get a head coaching job somewhere hopefully this season, This is sort of a disgrace that they did this to him, considering several players wanted him.
wow also i read some realtime comments, and they are lighting a fire under the lakers A$$, seems like no one likes this move including me.

nateoak10ParticipantIm friends with Shaw’s cousin , he told me a while back he will either be a HC in LA or GSW. At least to start his career, hes from the bay and my HS. Hes also been interviewed here, I think he will be here by the end of next week

laarethekingsParticipantHow did Shaw get robbed? They picked the guy they wanted… unless they told him he would have the job after phil which they didn’t

steviechillzParticipantMan thats a low blow to Brian Shaw! I think Mike Brown will bring some defensive intensity to the team and i would like to see how Kobe feels about the hiring….hopefully Brian Shaw can get another position bc the Lakers totally dissed him

TRC1991Participantshaw and golden state seem to be quite a nice fit

cheesepillowParticipantCan’t really blame them if management feels that Brown is a more worthy candidate. They’ll lose a great asset though as Shaw will be getting looks from other teams for the HC position now.

ilike.panochasParticipantDid the Lakers pursue other candidates? I thought Rick Adelman was ideal for that job.

surveParticipantI just dont know enough about the personnel side of sports because these decisions never cease to amaze me. First off, let me say, I like Mike Brown, and I am thrilled he got the spot, but I am SMH at Shaw not getting it. I didnt expect Brown to beat out Adelman. I was somewhat surprised that Sloan was mildly considered. While Brown is excellent and brings defensive intensity, it will be interesting to see how he formulates his offensive scheme. His offense in cleveland always seem to have no structure to me. Maybe it was just cleveland. All in all, Shaw will be snatched up immediately by someone now that he will not be the Lakers coach, at the end of the day, Shaw is still in a win-win, but man I thought he had it.

doubledribblerParticipantI’m surprised at all the outrage by Shaw not getting the job. The guy has never been a head coach and I think the Lakers had a preference for that experience. With that said, I am pretty sure that was Kobe’s endorsement (Shaw) so that would have weighed heavily in my favor. Brown accomplished a lot with the Cavs. He was great defensively, but his offenses were awful. If he remotely thinks he can just let Kobe isolate every time he is in trouble. Seems like Lakers would definitely need to make some trades and go in a new direction now though.

mj23mj23besteverParticipantwanted too say as well im not knocking mike brown at all i think hes a very good nba coach and got a raw deal in cleveland it wasnt his fault d west slammed mamma james and the bnoat couldnt deal with it in the play offs last year

NashyMingParticipantMike Brown is overrated. He got lucky to have LBJ carrying his team every game.
The Lakers screwed this one up, they should have hired Rick Adelman if they want to continue being a title contender.
If they want to keep the team intact, Brian Shaw could be an option, but I don’t think any team would risk handing over a title contender to a rookie coach (it happened with Avery Johnson and the Mavs) especially you have big ego guys like Kobe Bryant and Ron Artest. Brian Shaw would be better off coaching the GSW as there would be no pressure to have instant success.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 05/25/2011 - 5:16am #535704

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantI agree with NashyMing
Mike Brown basically rode LeBron to a contract and a good coaching record.
I guess we all know what the offensive scheme is going to be… Iso Kobe each play

McDunkinI was holding out hope at the start of the season that Kurt Rambis would somehow (yeah i know the chances were slim to none) be available for the job, and i think if he would have stayed an assistant until now that he would have got the job.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 05/25/2011 - 6:35am #535716
laarethekingsParticipantI’m happy about this…. If he can get 62 wins out of the 09 Cavs… Think about what he could do with Kobe, Pau, Bynum and LO.

surveParticipantI want to clarify, I am not outraged at Shaw not getting it. I am not shocked he did not get it. I am surprised though. Lets give the Lakers the benefit of the doubt, they are a great organization, but I attributed most of their personnel decisions to the smarts of West. But….isnt Shaw in the running for GS job? And isnt Jerry West now in GS front office? GS fans have a lot to be excited about, and perhaps Brown is a better fit for the Lakers than Shaw and vise versa when it comes to GS.

Bryant24ParticipantAs a laker fan I dont know I feel about the Mike Brown hiring right now but i really wanted Brian Shaw to be our next Head Coach
0 - Posted on: Wed, 05/25/2011 - 7:12am #535723

Ghost01ParticipantWhy was everyone in love with Brian Shaw again? He sat next to Phil for a few years, helped out, never coached a team on his own before, would have made LA continue to run the triangle that has single handidly killed Steve Blake, Matt Barnes, and Jonny Flynn’s careers in this last 2 years, and just really has no reason to be the coach except "I was on the Lakers, then i was an assistant".
Did you really think the Lakers were going to sign a coach who had never coached a team before? Come on…I dont think Brown is outstanding, but surely better suited for the job than Shaw.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 05/25/2011 - 7:27am #535724

JNixonParticipantHow has the triangle single-handedly killed those guys’ careers? Matt Barnes was never a very good player anyway, Steve Blake has always been your ordinary steady backup PG, and Jonny Flynn is a shooting guard who doesn’t shoot 3’s consistently and who’s limited some by his lack of size and ability to stay healthy. I can see where you’re coming from with the "Brian Shaw might not be qualified" argument, but don’t indict the triangle offense by using 3 players who weren’t ever much more than what they showed in the offense as example.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 05/25/2011 - 7:31am #535725

Ghost01ParticipantObviously you dont know what you are talking about with those 3 players. We have no idea if Jonny Flynn is good or not because of that trash system.
Although, ill agree, probably not the best point to why it shouldnt be Shaw. Him never coaching, him having no credentials are though.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 05/25/2011 - 7:37am #535729

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantTom Thibs had never been a head coach either.. where is he now? Oh wait! The Eastern Conference Finals!!

JNixonParticipant"Obviously you dont know what you are talking about with those 3 players. We have no idea if Jonny Flynn is good or not because of that trash system."
Yeah I don’t. I must’ve been sleep all those years Matt Barnes and Steve Blake were All-Stars, and Jonny Flynn showed pure PG ability.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantLakers hire Mike Brown
Kim Kardishian gets engaged to Kris Humphies
Arnold Schwarzenegger knocks up the maid
I’m moving to LA it seems everyone there has LOWERED THEIR STANDARDS
0 - Posted on: Wed, 05/25/2011 - 7:46am #535733

Ghost01ParticipantJNixon- I would continue to argue with you, but the point isnt important, you win.
Tongue out- Yea, and you know who else has been to the ECF? MIKE BROWN! and you know who hasnt? BRIAN SHAW! Thibs was always known as a defensive specialist. Does Shaw have a big defensive strategy that i dont know about? Seriously, what has Shaw done other than sit next to Phil?
0 - Posted on: Wed, 05/25/2011 - 7:50am #535736

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantMike Brown rode LeBron James for 5 years.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 05/25/2011 - 8:26am #535752

Chilbert arenasParticipantThey should have given Lawrence Frank a look as well but Mike Brown is head scratching, people anointed Shaw the next Lakers coach like they did Marc Jackson and then they gave the job to D’antoni.

Soulrebel15ParticipantI really want to see if Kobe cosigns this head coaching hire. Because as we all know if your superstar/leader not on board the head coach will have a short stay, unless management stands firm by the coach. I wonder if Kobe wants Shaw as the coach because he believes in his potential as a head coach, or because Shaw already knows the deal, and truly knows who the head coach really is.
I find it funny how people are so quick to knock Mike Brown. The last time I checked you need great player to win in any league. Is Phil Jackson, Red Auerbach, Doc Rivers or whomever a less accomplished coach because they coached great players? NO! You may not think he is the right fit for the Historic Lakers, which i another debate, but please give the man some kind credit.

OldSkoolBasketballParticipantBrown was cheaper compared to Adelman so that might be why he got the job.

aamir543ParticipantMike Brown is happy to be somewhere his star wants to be. I also get the feeling that he is going to be the asisstant, Kobe the real coach. In crunch time, if Kobe says he wants or does not want a certain player in the game, does Brown have the guts to say no?
0 - Posted on: Wed, 05/25/2011 - 12:36pm #535868

iguapops420ParticipantRonnie Lester has been the scout for 23 years and he was given the boot. This is Jim Buss cleaning house and doing things "his" way. Mike Brown may actually be good. A defensive coach who is already surrounded by guys who are terrific offensive talents. Perhaps this is the year Bynum finally becomes the DEFENSIVE anchor. I’d really like to see LAL get Iggy as I think he’d fit great with Brown’s offensive/defensive scheme. And Boobie Gibson to bring the shooting that’s lacked in LAL for quite some time. Plus he’s one of Brown’s boys.
