surveParticipantIn terms of 1st rounders and guaranteed contracts, this will be a weak draft I believe, but when you get to the 2nd round and those that will go undrafted….this draft will have a great deal of value I believe, moreso than we have seen in a while. Here is a list of some of the players that will fall outside of the 1st round but could be very good value picks.
2nd rounders:
Nolan Smith– This guy is a player, lots of heart and a good shooter, could provide good depth at a team who needs a backup PG.
Kyle Singler– This guy has some heart and some shooting ability, could really be a good scorer if he proves not to be a huge defensive liability.
Cory Joseph– If Joseph doesnt make it in the first round, he would be an excellent backup for a great veteran PG or he could make a guy like Brandon Jennings more expendable. Joseph is an excellent defender and a natural at the position.
Jamie Skeen– I just think there is always value in a big guy who can post up, rebound and step outside. Skeen is solid and can provide good depth for a lot of teams.
DeAndre Liggins– I think he is underated as to what he can bring to the table. Yeah everyone knows he can defend, but he is a decent ballhandler who can penetrate and can hit the jumper. I like Keith Bogans and Sefolosha but I think Liggins could end up being better than both.
Undrafted:
Corey Fisher– Got a feeling he will end up like Scottie Reynolds and not hear his name called that night. He is too crafty not to be able to get a serious look, he may end up overseas, but if there is a team in need for a tough PG, he can make a cut.
Kalin Lucas– Another tough PG. He is very solid, and again, for someone lacking depth, I think he can be a good pickup.
LaceDarius Dunn– He looks like he is destined to be an overseas player but if Jody Meeks can do it, maybe Lace can. Of course Meeks was fortunate to get to play under Doug Collins, if Lace is picked up, he will have to show that he can play at least moderate defense, then again, defense is probably his biggest weakness.
Malcolm Delaney– This is one of my TOP sleepers in the draft. His stock is so low because people just dont buy into him being a PG….He is a 2-guard with playmaking ability. Delaney can handle good enough and defend good enough and there is no question about his scoring ability.
Jeff Allen– Delaney’s teamate. Looking for an active guy on the boards who can play some D…Allen is it. Allen is a hustle player.
and what about Josh Harrelson? I will be the first one to tell you I never thought this guy would see daylight at UK. When Kanter was declared ineligible, I just KNEW that spot would be all Vargas’. I was definitely wrong and even though Harrelson beat out Vargas…I never imagined he would play as good as he did. The kid has heart and size if nothing else. He has 6 good hard fouls to give but something tells me he can really help out on the boards. He is definitely a player who has to be guarding a guy who is not a big offensive threat or lacks ability to step out. Harrelson is not on anyone’s radar I dont believe…but I think he will be given a serious look.

MagikKnickParticipantEgh, I dont really see any of those guys doing anything at the next level..
Smith and Singler I can see latching one with a team..they’ll show signs of being good 7th-12th men..
Liggins it depends on his situation..he can do for any team what Keith Bogans is doing for the Bulls right now…just needs the opportunity…will he get it? who knows…
As for Corey Joseph, im a personal fan…i think he can be a legit backup in the NBA, Earl Maynor 2.0 in my opinion

surveParticipantYeah, like I said, most of these guys dont have really good stock, I left off guys like Hopson, Lighty, Richmond, McCamey, etc…because I think those guys will stick. I think a lot of these guys have potential to stick to a roster…namely Delaney if he gets the opportunity with the right team. I would love to see Joseph backing up Rose like Maynor does for Westbrook.

surveParticipantLOL, I just put Dunn in there because as the Big 12 all time leading scorer he should get some love, but out of all of the guys on the list, he has probably the worst chance. Outside of putting the ball in the hole he is subpar in everything else. Not a great athlete, not a good ballhandler, poor shot selection, not a good defender, undersized for a SG. Not too many players are as successful as he is in college but is such a low rated prospect. Scottie Reynolds was better.

kanyedabestParticipantkyle singler wont last 4 years in the nba…. he cost himself a lot of dough by not coming out last year, he’s a 2nd round pick this year and his lack of speed/lateral quickness will be exposed immiediatly at the next level. Struggled with his shot this year on top of everything too.

boxn1ParticipantEvery guy you named could be on someone’s bench that was a playoff team and can do something to help them. Think the lakers would like nolan smith as the back up pg??? The Thunder couldnt use Singler off the bench for spacing??? Miami would take Harelson and his energy and size??? Boston couldn’t have used Liggins as another wing defender??? Drafts are about more than superstars and franchise players, its how good teams turn into great/championship teams.

NashyMingParticipantAs much as I don’t think this draft is as weak as it is made out to be. I think some of the better players on your list may go 1st round and the others may never make the NBA.

GrandmamaParticipantThis draft is garbage….

surveParticipantthis draft is garbage for 1st rounders, but there will be some good players available who wont require guaranteed contracts. I mean a lot of them….everyone wont fit in the first round….just look at this site’s mock, they have guys like Malcolm Lee, Reggie Jackson, Jeremy Tyler, Travis Leslie, Cory Joseph, etc…all of them in the 2nd round. Some of those guys will get in the 2nd round, but some of them wont, thats where the value lies. As of now, all indications show that Joseph will likely be a 2nd rounder….picture picking up Cory Joseph in the 2nd round. Sometimes the real winners are the undrafted players because they get to go tryout different places and still leave the door open for overseas…like Scotty Reynolds did.
we know this draft doesnt look great on paper, what will tell the tale is the value when we look back on this years from now.
like boxn1 said…this may not be a superstar draft but there could be some very good role players that can help a number of teams.
