MagikKnickParticipantScotty Hopson is getting a lot of ‘criticism’ for this interview, so is he being cocky and placing himself to high or is he just that confident about his game?

RUDEBOY_ParticipantScouts view him as just a great athlete, with a very low basketball IQ..And saying things like that validates their point…Dont be surprised if he doesnt get DRAFTED….

mikeyvthedonParticipantThere is no way he would have settled on that haircut. Fade’s are tight and all, but he should sue whoever cut his hair. With the way he was talking, I would not be surprised if he cut it himself.
"I think my hair will be a superstar, one of the best haircuts in the league. It is versatile, it can play defense, distribute, and single handedly win championships….."
Just having some fun and all, but he sounded a little delusional, and WAY more cocky than confident. Confidence is saying he will work hard to be the best that he can, not basically acting like he is already there. I was very high on Scotty going into college, but I definitely feel he underachieved, and he seems like a one dimensional bench scorer at this point in time. Really, very little diversity to his game, and he definitely needs to work on that if he wants to come anywhere close to where he thinks he will be.

RafterParticipantCocky, way too cocky for me. But a GM with a lottery pick might watch that, and buy what Hopson is selling. I personally wouldn’t.
There’s nothing wrong with self-belief, but to say you want to be a superstar in five years is setting yourself up for failure and unneccessary pressure, because he has to walk the talk.
Clearly, he’s advertising himself to Gm’s with lottery picks, by saying he’ll be a model athlete, that’s not a thing you say, you do it and it comes up from other people, not from yourself. You don’t hear Alonzo Mourning say how much he helps the community, you hear from the community itself and from people around Alonzo.

Chilbert arenasParticipantIf he’s such a winner where was he during the 30 point blow out to Michigan in the 1st round?

knicksfan7ParticipantRight off the bat the guy is a terrible speaker. Though, that doesn’t mean much. Though he is obviously cocky. Of course he is obviously confident in order to be cocky some confidence comes with it. Though, I agere with MikeyV he is definitely delusional. What I had a problem with was how he kept emphasizing the importance of where he gets drafted. I know the first round has guaranteed money, but guys who truly work hard, it doesn’t matter where they are selected, or if they are selected. I don’t think Hopson truly works hard. I don’t see him as a guy that is getting shots up after practice in season. Personally I don’t think Hopson is mentally tough. He is too caught up on where in the draft he goes, he should be more focused on working on his weaknesses and discussing that instead as well as the improvements he made since the season ended, but from this interview I am unsure if he believes he has any weaknesses.

TRC1991Participanti hope he goes undrafted…would be quite the wake up call for a guy who thinks hes far better than he really is

gatorheelsParticipantYeah, he didn’t do a good job speaking first off. Overall I though he was just confident. I didn’t have a problem with what he was saying. He is just trying to sell himself to GMs, can’t blame him. Talking is only going to get someone so far though.
Scotty has some big flaws in his game (defense, ball handling, passing, etc..) but those flaws can be greatly improved upon with hard work & the right mentality. He has to have the focus & motivation. He has to listen to coaches. He may be a perfectionist but his game is far from perfect.
I would be very surprised if he doesn’t get drafted though. He has major potential. Most of the things lacking in his game can be taught. He already has ideal size & athleticism for a shooting guard in the NBA & a very good jumpshot with a high release.
Plus I feel like his game is much better suited for the NBA than it was in college.

knicksfan7ParticipantGatorheels I know you love Hopson. I do agree about his game being more suited for the NBA, but I disagree that was clearly just confidence, there was plenty of cockiness in that interview. I hope for his sake he works hard and uses his draft position as (I think he goes round 2) as motivation to get better. Time will tell.
