If David Kahn had the #1 Overall

 NOBODY knows what david kanh is going to do, we only know that it`s probably a dumb move!

 Very weird I was just going to make a thread about the same question. Can you post a link to the interview? I don’t know which one you are talking about. I don’t think they would take Irving anyway because of the possibility of Rubio coming over and they can still take d-will or Kanter borrowing the Cavs take Irving. So even with the first pick they would still be debating d-will or Kanter.

Nobody 100% knows, but there is a 80% chance he would take a pg…and call Rubio immediately after and promise that he loves him more.

 memphis, not to be annoying, but I don’t know where you are getting that "Kahn had gave every indication that he was going to select Kyrie with that interview." It sounds like to me that he is planning on having Rubio on team in the future.

 Alright, but I think he could of also said what he answered to an earlier question. He could of said, to the question about Rubio, something like we don’t know who we are going to take yet, we have to see how things pan out up until draft day. I think if he said something like that, that it would have been fine. I don’t think he really had to mention Rubio, but since he did that makes me think that he is really coming over soon.

Well… there’s a few reasons why Kahn should be disappointed.  His team had the worst record and he was hoping to get the first overall as a result.  With the first overall he would have had options.  If Rubio didn’t want to come over this season that could have forced his hand into taking Irving, who is the best player in this draft anyways.  After taking Irving he could have used Rubio’s rights to potentially acquire vets or other young prospects/picks this season… perhaps even trading Rubio’s rights for the 2nd or 3rd overall pick (its a weak draft) this draft.  Next year Rubio likely won’t be worth a 2nd or 3rd overall but he is this season.  Kahn could have also used the 1st pick to trade down one spot and still got Williams while gaining another asset.  I don’t think thats a smart move but its another option… Like if the Jazz had picked up the second pick… you know how they got DWill way back when right?

Now that Kahn only has the second overall pick and missed out on Irving he knows full well he’s under Rubio’s thumb.  He’s trying to build a team and if Rubio doesn’t come this season Kahn has a dilema on his hands.  Rubio won’t come the year after… if I’m not mistaken the buyout is arranged affordably for this year.  Year 3 of Rubio’s contract is much much different.  Does Kahn stay the course with the PG’s he currently has or does he look to acquire one he’s happy with via other, substantially more expensive means right now.  The second pick is pretty much a no brainer for Williams… but I’m sure Kahn wanted this PG thing done this offseason as a priority.  At this time Kahn knows Flynn was a giant mistake at 6th and trading Lawson’s rights to Denver on that draft night was just as bad.  Turns out he traded the wrong one.  Kahn’s probably tired of the jokes aswell. 

So now Kahn is left with taking Williams and trading Beasley who will NEVER EVER be a winner in the NBA.  Beasley’s ball IQ is so low its pathetic… and his trade value isn’t exactly high… unless you consider an inefficient 3/4tweener with subpar shooting, rebounding, passing and defense as part of championship future. If you watched Memphis move the ball this season and playoffs you know what I mean.  Beasley would have wrecked that teams mojo. 

So Kahn is left with likely trading the #2 for the best package he can get so that he can keep Beasley and avoid another logjam.  The trades offered for the #2 pick will likely involve overpaid "star" players which will drastically change Minny’s cap.  The trades available for Beasley will likely be for crap… and your still stuck with your PG situation.

So Kahn should be disappointed… I would be.

point of the story being, hes still in a really good position to take either kanter or williams anyways… i could imagine minny getting really good by adding a presence like kanter along with the development of the rest of their team..

 HotSnot brought up a really good point and probably the best point I’ve heard by anybody including ESPN since the lottery happened and that’s that Kahn would of had LEVERAGE IN THE RUBIO SITUATION IF HE HAD WON THE FIRST PICK AND THE CHANCE TO DRAFT IRVING.  That would of been a huge deal and sped up the timeline for Rubio because he will never play in the NBA unless the Wolves sign on trade him.  If the Wolves have the chance to draft Irving they don’t need to worry about Rubio anymore putting him into limbo.  

The Wolves should feel really fortunate still by having the chance to draft Kanter who will fit perfectly next to Love and form one of strongest frontcourts in the NBA.  

minny should just take kanter as mr.19134 mentioned and have a very front court with love b easy and kanter in the middle but its kahn so im sure hell do somehting off the wall sense he is the biggest j off in basketball and maybe in all of sports

Unpredictable Toruk, not impredictable.  But personally, I think he had every intention of taking Kyrie.  Either that or taking him at 1 and then using him or Rubio as trade bait.

If the t wolves do not improve by at least 15 wins, he is out of there.
