Why is Kevin Durant considered an elite player but Carmelo Anthony is continuously snubbed by guys on this site and when it comes to voting in the NBA for things such as All-Star, MVP and All-NBA Teams

    Stat comparison

PPG- Anthony 25.6 Durant 27.7 winner KD

RPG- Anthony 7.3 Durant 6.8 winner CA

APG- Anthony 2.9 Durant 2.7 winner CA

BPG- Anthony 0.6 Durant 1.1 winner KD

SPG- Anthony 0.9 Durant 1.0 winner KD

    FG%- Anthony 46.1% Durant 46.2% winner KD

    3pt%- Anthony 33.3%(DEN), 42.4%(NYK) Durant 35% winner CA

    FT%- Anthony 87% Durant 88% winner KD

TOPG- Anthony 2.4 Durant 2.8 winner CA

FGM-FGA PG- Anthony 9.2-19.9 Durant 9.1-19.7 TIE Melo makes more, KD takes less

VS Eachother- Anthony vs OKC 35pts(Highest VS any team) 7rebs 3stls Durant vs NYK 28pts 9.5rebs winner CA

    Anthony-5 Durant-5 Tie-1

So they split every category and are close in 6 or 7 of them yet KD is All NBA 1st Team and CA was snubbed

Is it because Melo is a drama queen no LeBron is one too as well as Kobe and they both made All NBA 1st Team

Everyone has slept on Carmelo far too long in his 8 years in the league he is the best scorer in the league, best rebounding SF and when he wants to defend he is an above average defender. He should be an All Star and 1st or 2nd All NBA Team every year and now that he is where he wants to be and hopefully the Knicks get the role players he needs he will show he is a "TOP 5" player in the league along with James, Wade, Bryant and Durant

Both guys are elite scorers and does it differently, Durant does it more in the perimeter, while Melo is a little more well rounded in that he is capable of scoring down the paint with his size and strength, but Durant has better outside range.

Carmelo is not at all being snubbed, he has not played as well as he did last season and his team is not amongst one of the best in the East, which is why Durant you can say has had a better overall season. Just last season Carmelo was getting some MVP consideration.

"Everyone has slept on Carmelo far too long in his 8 years in the league he is the best scorer in the league, best rebounding SF and when he wants to defend he is an above average defender."

He’s not the best scorer, Kobe still has that title.

He’s not the best rebounding small forward.  You heard of some guy named LeBron?  What about Gerald Wallace?  Umm.. Josh Smith?..

When he wants to defend he’s an above average defender?  No, he’s not.  First of all, he hardly WANTS to defend.  Even when he does try to defend, he’s an average defender at best.

"He should be an All Star and 1st or 2nd All NBA Team every year"

Not until he actually starts winning, stops slacking off, and becomes a leader.

The "FGM-FGA PG" stat should go to KD.  He shoots .2 less and makes just .1 less.  Making him a slight bit better.

"Is it because Melo is a drama queen no LeBron is one too as well as Kobe and they both made All NBA 1st Team"

Want to know the difference?  LeBron and Kobe lead their teams to the top of their conference year after year while Carmelo Anthony struggles to stay in mediocracy.

Both are future hall of famers and both are 2 of the top 10 scorers we have in this league right now….If I had to choose one for my team, I would take Durant bc of his potential, his age, and his scoring ability throughout the game.

On the other hand, If I needed a bucket to win the game, I would go with my man Melo! Melo has had many clutch shots in his career…and to me he is the BEST one on one player we have in the league right now

Both are great and you cant go wrong with either, but right now I would choose Durant

Melo can score way better than Kobe

LeBron’s Cleveland team would not have those results if they were in the dreaded West

Durant is younger yes but he isnt as strong, cant dribble as good and cant score in as many ways as melo

Ima take Melo anyday of the week especially now

you know what Ima wait til next season when he shows everyone what I’m talkin about

"Melo can score way better than Kobe"

That is an opinion.  I believe Kobe is a better scorer.  It’s a toss-up though.

"LeBron’s Cleveland team would not have those results if they were in the dreaded West"

    ACTUALLY…

    • 2009-2010: Cleveland vs West:  23-7;  PPG: 104.3… OPPG: 96.7
    • 2008-2009: Cleveland vs West:  26-4;  PPG: 102.1… OPPG: 92.3

So as you can see, they completely demolished the western conference.

"Durant is younger yes but he isnt as strong, cant dribble as good and cant score in as many ways as melo"

Maybe he can’t.  The problem is Melo doesn’t use all his ways.  All he does is iso for jumpers.  While Durant comes off screens, isos, uses picks very well.  He’s more versatile thus making him harder to stop.

Carmelo is the best scorer in the NBA .
He scores in so many ways his midrange is almost unmatched he has also added three point range to his arsenal he also has great low high post presence and he can attack the rim with all of his strength .
Kd is freak of nature and also a great scorer but whenever I watch him it’s always either a jumpshot or a fastbreak dunk
But that led him to back to back scoring titles he needs a low high post presence to be truly known as the best scorer

    Stat wise: Kevin durant
    Skill wise: Carmelo Anthony

He just isn’t the best scorer in the NBA.  Scoring in different ways doesn’t make him the best scorer.  He has never been as efficient a scorer as Kobe or LeBron.  He is a great scorer, but he is not on Kobe’s or Lebron’s level.

I don’t see how Carmelo Anthony is the best scorer in the NBA.

I feel KD, Lebron James, Dwayne Wade and Kobe Bryant are all better scorers.  Kobe has lost a step but still averaged 25 ppg on a team with more offensive weapons than either Denver or NY while shooting a higher percentage from the feild than Carmelo.

Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant have won 2 scoring titles and Wade and Lebron have taken 1, Carmelo is a good scorer no doubt, but has never averaged 30 ppg something Lebron has done twice, Kobe has done 3 times, and KD and Wade have done once.

Even though their FG% are similar, if you look at true shooting %, Durant has .589 and Melo has .557. That is due to the fact that he takes more 3 pt shots which are the most efficient shot in the game after free throws, dunks and layups and makes a better % of his free throws. Anthony shot 84% this season not 87%.

Durant is a more efficient scorer and is a little better on D, as much as I like Melo, KD is the better player right now. Melo’s numbers and even his efficiency related stats(defence doesn’t count) improved a lot when he went to the Knicks, getting closer to Durant’s numbers. Next year Melo will have a whole season of inflated D’antoni numbers, so we can expect him to be in NBA first-second team discussions if the Knicks win a few games.

    "when he wants to defend"

That’s half of the problem right there.

Everyone else in this discussion defends consistently. They might not always be put on the best opposing player (until crunch time comes), but they all play consistent, above average D.

Carmelo’s defense and poor shot selection is what played them out of the playoffs when he was with Denver.

See Denver trade. When your team can trade you and become much much better, while the new team you go to basically regresses, then your stock is going to slide. Melo is a long way from being considered a top 10 player in the league, much less a future hall of famer. Basically I would think that most people have him ranked about on the same level as Joe Johnson these days.

By the way, you also can’t get swept in the playoffs by a team which then gets nearly gets swept itself. I will do the math for you:

    Heat >> Celtics >> Knicks, which means Lebron/Wade >> Rondo/Garnet/Pierce/Allen >> Melo/Amare.

But I do like that he is getting up a few more threes at the end of the season. He has the J to make those at a good enough percentage to be effective. Let us hope for continued improvement.

I think if Durant ever develops Melo’s post game (that low block fader is filthy) and maybe puts some muscle on, Durant would easily be the best scorer in the game.  I think Melo’s ability to generate offense in all facets of the game (low block, 3, post up, midrange, driving, etc.) makes him probably the best all around scorer judging by ways in which he can score.

That being said, I think Durant is more efficient and effective in the ways that he choses to score.

    IMO…

Melo = Widest array of ways to score in the NBA

Durant = most efficient and best scorer in the NBA

Durant also needs to develop more of a "takeover" mentality ala Kobe/Wade/Melo.

     Dymes,

Question for you. Which would you rather have: a bunch of moves that all work out to hitting about 45% of your shots or one move that you can use pretty much whenever you want but you hit it 55% of the time?Sure Melo has got lots of skills. No doubt he is a great scorer. But I will take Dirk and his fadeaway all game long.

I never understood why Melo was considered such a great scorer when KD, Kobe, Wade, and Lebron score more points than him and they’re more efficient.  Lebron is also a really underated scorer he has averaged over 30 ppg twice, but when ppl talk about the best scorers he isn’t talked about

    Thats what I’m saying TallmanNYC

"Durant = most efficient and best scorer in the NBA"

I’d prefer a proficient and efficient scorer as opposed to a guy who has the all the moves but does not knock them down as efficiently.

As far as Dirk goes, ill take Melo over him for the sake of Melo’s age.  But no doubt, Ill take a Dirk in him prime over a Melo in his prime. Dirk in his prime was arguably the greatest PF of all time, offensively.  His combo of size and shooting ability were surreal and till this day still are remarkablty impressive.

Right now, Carmelo Anthony is the better player. However, Kevin Durant isn’t far behind, which allows people to make the claim/argument he’s better then Anthony.

I’ll take Durant for two reasons.  His efficiancy and his character.  Carmelo has character issues that can bring a locker room down if something doesnt go his way.  Then you have Durant, who is more of a quiet leader and teammates like and respect him as a person and as a player(obviously).  Durant over Melo for me
