High School Junior-to-be Offered $750,000 Contract !!!!

They are basically asking him to drop out of high school to play basketball and I hate that idea. At least let him finished school first.

Look at jeremy tyler, this could be a terrible idea for his future draft stock. He might make a couple million in 2 seasons in Europe before he is drafted into the NBA but in the long term he could lose a lot of money on his first NBA contract if he is drafted lower based on his play overseas.

I would take it. $750,000 is a lot of money and he may never make it in the NBA, because of his height. He can always go back to school later.

He’s a 17 year old sophomore, will turn 19 during his senior year, there are questions if he will even be able to qualify for NCAA ball or if he’ll have to go the JUCO route, if I’m advising him I really would tell him to consider taking the offer. That’s a hell of a lot of money to walk away from. Also given his size(5-6′ 17 years old) a career in the NBA might not even be realistic so I would be hard pressed to tell this kid to walk away from this incredible opportunity. Of course I don’t know him personally but to me it wouldn’t be a bad thing to start his professional career overseas. He sure as heck will get more draft attention play high quality ball in Italy rather than JUCO ball. I lived in Baltimore for a couple of years and I am almost certain that his family could use this money. I say give it a try and work on your GED later. I have read conflicting reports though and it is possible that there is no offer on the table.

quite frankly i think he’d be crazy if he didnt take it. At his size realistacally he probably wont stick in the nba and if you have a chance to go make some money and shoe deals i think he needs to jump at it. He will end up playing in europe anyway once his college career ends why not go now?

What I’d do is sfirst first ask if I could finish school then take up the contract and if the say I’d say I’ll take $500,000 if you let me finish school.

If the team says no both times then I’d finish school anyway and hope NBA GM’s will think I’m like a Super-Star Nate Robinson or something.

It apparently is not true about the money, though the offer may indeed be true. Still, awesome player, and it will be interesting to see what he does these next few years.

Virtus Roma already publicly said this is BS. Said that Aquille’s people would have to pay them to let him play!

He has to take the money, period. People are seriously overvalueing a high school education. A highschool education will always be there, he can make up for it whenever if he decides he wants to go to college and do something different with his life. If his dream is to play basketball for a living, and your offered a shot at your dream and get 750 grand to go with it? He would be insane not to take that. Forget the NBA, you make the league being good at basketball and learning US history in high school will do nothing for him to become a better basketball player, playing basketball with superior European players will.

If his dream is to make the NBA, this isn’t a bad decision and this will do nothing but make him a better basketball player. His height obviously doesn’t help him, but going to college and playing in the NCAA wont make him taller.

Take the money and work on your game. If all falls through, you have made enough money to where if you decide basketball is not what you want to do for a living or he just turns out to be too short than you have the money and the time to get an education and live comfortably until you switch career paths. And who knows how much money his family has now. This decision could make things like getting a higher education for his brothers and sisters possible. I wish him luck and hopes he makes the right decision.

Bogdan Tanjevic, manager of Virtus Roma, denied the rumors on the proposal made by the Italian team for Aquille Carr, the American 17 year-old player from Patterson High School, as reporter by some media overseas. "750.000 US Dollars for a 17 year-old player? Tanjevic is not crazy yet" said the sports director of Virtus Roma. "If they will give us that amount of money we can think about signing him" addes Tanjevic.
