jjonzParticipantWith the Current talent base and Cap restrictions this will be hard to make this team any better than it already is. The best they can hope for is in-house retooling. No draft picks this year. No tradeable options exist on the Roster. They have IMO 2 bad contracts
EOkfur For a Mid-Market team is a great Center But NO is a Low-Market/No Market team and his $$$ is not good for a Team going forward.
TAriza. He had one of the worst shooting years ever. So going forward into the next couple of years i don’t expect him to play beyond his current #’s.
How do they go forward.
I am Mr.TankMan i say this group overachieved and they should Tank-it-out. And draft a Super-Stud from 2012 draft.
What would you do.

sheltwon3ParticipantThey need a solid 2 guard. I think if they are crafted they can pick someone up that could feel that need. Ariza played pretty well in the playoffs.

This off season, a shooting guard, i’d love afflalo, a back up center like and a scorer off the bench like LaDarius Dunn in the second round, and aaron gray to play like he did in the playoffs

omphalosParticipantI think J.R. Smith would be the perfect fit here, CP3 desperately needs someone who can create his own shot, and they are both around the same age. Yes, Smith is a bit crazy, but Williams and Paul should calm him down some and he’ll benefit playing without a ball-stopper like Anthony. If they can grab a young PF with upside somewhere, maybe like an Earl Clark, they could be in a good situation going forward.

nath09ParticipantIn these 2 players they had 2 of the biggest steals in the ’09 draft. What did they get for them? Of course you can build a contender around a perennial all star like Paul. I think the question we should be asking is, does the front office have the brains to build a contender around Chris Paul?

FastAndFuriousParticipantYea I think so, I mean CP3 is really really good, and he already gets slot of assist with sub-par players, if you can get him a good SG and maybe one more good player I think the Hornets could be a serious contender. CP3 has all the tools and some to lead a team no question, he just needs some help.

AaronMck91ParticipantYes the hornets can. It will be tough for them to add solid pieces to go around cp3 and west. But if they can somehow sign a sg like cj miles or jr smith and upgrade the center (sign nene )they will be better.

omphalosParticipantI don’t like Hamilton as a fit, I haven’t seen many Pistons games lately, but from my understanding Rip is more or less a catch and shoot guy, when Paul needs someone who can reduce the pressure of having to make every single play.

HitsterParticipantThe Hornets appointed a new Coach and GM last summer to no doubt look to build for the future. The loss of their first round pick this year via a trade to Portland and then conveyed to Charlotte, isn’t too much of a blow given that this year’s draft isn’t that deep but it does rob Del Demps or trading options at least.The Hornets have a number of players expiring or with player options most notably David West so a lot will depend on what happens there. Logically they look to make offers to Belinelli, Green and Smith but let Marcus Banks move on. Carl Landry’s position may well depend what happens to David West, if David opts in or resigns then Carl will likely look elsewhere but if David West moves on then Carl Landry could be a serviceable replacement or a good big man from the bench who can play major minutes.NOH would probably like to move Jarrett Jack and get a cheaper back up to CP3 but Jack has a couple of years left on his deal and being owed over $10 million combined over the next two seasons will not really be tradable until he goes into his expiring year. They do have David Andersen with a nice $2.7 million team option so he could be used as a trade bait perhaps but NOH cannot really take on extra salary given their ownership situation I would guess.Of course a lot depends on what CP3 does and to a lesser extent David West, if West did move on then trying to do an S and T might bring in an asset or two and if CP3 does move on next summer then another S and T would be likely and the team would have to look to rebuild via the draft. If David West does move on this summer then I wonder if CP3 could be in a Melo situation where the trade talk really starts or he might refuse to sign any extension offered. It might be in NOH’s interests then to look to move CP3 sooner rather than later as if he stayed and they make the play offs or get near to it next year and he moves on then they could have a Cleveland like situation in 2012-13 and really struggle after their Franchise Player leaves.I would never advocate tanking but if they did trade CP3 this summer or early next season they would probably be a lottery team in a very strong 2012 draft and they would control any trade so they might look at how Denver got a good deal for Melo and look to do similar in the near future. The interest in CP3 also sooner rather than later might be greater as teams look to play their hand and maybe contend with him next season. There are several teams with ageing PG’s who have assets which might interest NOH and NOH may even note what the Nuggets did with Melo and traded Billups as well by looking to move Okafor or Ariza with CP3. jjonzParticipantbut teams tank all the time. See the Rash of Injuries for the Cavs this Season. AV broken ankle/AJ broken Pinkie/MoWill Strainged Hamstring( And then he was healthy enough to be traded.) Boobie was hurt all year.
The Spurs & Celtics the year Duncan was in the draft tanked
The Cavs Tanked to get lebron, Their Leading scorer that year was signed from the YMCA
Celtics tanked again to try to get GOden

Memphis MadnessParticipantNO screwed up. They had Tyson Chandler and traded him for Emeka Okafor. They had Marcus Thornton and traded him for Carl Landry. I like Thornton better. Collison fit in great with their system. Not sure if they got a big upgrade in Trevor Ariza.
Paul-West-Chandler-Thornton would have been a better core. With Belineli off the bench to provide scoring and either Collison or Ariza.
They made some bad moves.
They can build around Chris Paul but it is hard to build around point guards. It will be even tougher for them since they have 3 power forward/ undersized centers who don’t really complement each other (West, Okafor, Carl Landry). If I were them I would try to move West, Okafor, some scrubs (either Aaron Gray or Willie Green), the 45th pick, and future 1st round picks for Dwight Howard. That would give them two super stars, a very solid small forward in Trevor Ariza who played his basketball as the 5th guy on the Lakers championship team, a good shooter in Belineli (would make a good sixth man), and a solid power forward who can score in Carl Landry. Howard and Ariza would better complement Chris Paul. Ariza wouldn’t be a bad 3rd or 4th option on an up-tempo team with a great point guard and a great center with some solid shooters. Ariza can be a legit starter on a contender. So they would have two superstars, a great wing player who complements the Big Two, and a couple of good pieces in Belineli and Landry. Belineli could be decent starters, or if they came off the bench the Hornets would have two great pieces for a strong bench. Jarret Jack is a good back up point guard. Mbenga is a solid back up center. They would still need a solid power forward and another guard who can score some and play some defense and maybe a cheap shooter to be a title threat, but Paul, Howard, Ariza, Landry, Belineli, and Jack is a good enough core to turn them into one of the better teams in the league with a shot at getting to the Eastern Conference Finals.
Another trade I like for the Hornets would be to trade Okafor and Aaron Gray to the Knicks for Shawne Williams and Landry Fields and then signing DeAndre Jordan. Jordan has great upside and would be a great up-tempo center. He’s a good shot-blocker, rebounder and finisher. Fields would be a good 2 guard next to Chris Paul and Shawne Williams does some of everything. He would be a great 6th man behind Ariza or a good option at the 4 if the Hornets went small. David West will still be a good scoring option. Landry is a good scorer and rebounder off the bench.
