Memphis MadnessParticipantI am a huge fan of Derrick Rose, and I think they had a great year. They seem to do well on rebounding and defense with Rose being one of the best players in the game (Rose is the rightful MVP but I think Howard, LeBron, Wade, and Dirk deserved more votes).
I like all those aspects but I am not sure that their supporting cast is sufficient. Deng, Boozer, and Noah are nice players but Boozer isn’t in the same class as Pau or Z Bo. Deng is a good player but I think he is more of a 3rd option. Boozer turns the ball over too much and he is not much of a defender. Not sure that those guys can help deliver Rose a championship. Noah is great on defense, and a very good rebounder and shot-blocker. But he is not great on offense, and relies primarily on garbage buckets and hustle to get his points.
Korver is a great shooter off the bench but he can’t really create his own shot. Rose is the only true shot-creator on the Bulls and I think it will hold them back.
Earlier in the playoffs I created a thread comparing the Rose Bulls to LeBron’s Cavs. An awesome MVP-caliber first option to go along with great team rebounding and defense and a solid supporting cast. But no true second option. The Cavs offense was created mainly through LeBron with the rest of the guys turning into glorified jump shooters with their inside guys getting some hustle points. This year’s Bulls team is built similarly.

PlatypusParticipantnot enough to beat boston or miami no, they need someone who can create and score when D rose isnt in the game, a possible Rodney Stuckey off the bench and a better 2 guard like courtney lee or aaron afflalo

DanEboyParticipantThey are going to have to play outstanding defense the rest of the way. Coach Thibs has proven to be one of the best at adjusting after a loss. The Bulls didn’t have a 3 game losing streak all season and only lost back to back games 4 times in the regulars season.
Rose appears tired. The toll of the Team USA games, preseason and having to carry the offense the whole season in the absence of Boozer and Noah for long stretches is catching up to him at the wrong time. Add in all of the wear and tear on his body as well.
That being said, I think they do have enough weapons, they just need to start playing better. They need Boozer to play like a man. They need Noah to be as agressive as he was against the Celtics 2 years ago, although I am sure his injuries are preventing him from playing like that.
I still think they will beat the Hawks but next series is going to be tough unless his supporting cast gets their act together. The Heat have their swag at full speed right now.

Memphis MadnessParticipantI think they could use a veteran 2. Rip Hamilton would be a great fit. Not sure he fits into the Pistons’ long-term plans. Maybe Cole, Cook, and the 25th pick could get it done.
If not, then the Thunder might want to consider putting KD at the 2 then getting a defensive swing man to play the 3. That would give them an insane height advantage and would still allow them to bring Harden off the bench as a much-needed 6th man.
They need a solid 3rd option but they shouldn’t break up the KD-Westbrook-Ibaka-Perkins-Harden core. Thabo and Collison are solid vets who fit in well. I think the Thunder could use a big man scorer off the bench. Not sure they need a backup gunner.
Kyle Singler could be a good draft pick for them giving them another scoring option (along with Harden) off the bench. They could also use him in crunch time situations with either KD in the backcourt for a big team, or KD and Singler at forward when they want to go small.

mikeyvthedonParticipantHe really has to step up Dan. He seemed to play much more of a role on Utah’s play-off teams. They should definitely be playing more inside-out basketball and creating some space for Boozer. He needs to become an offensive force for this team to have a chance to go further, I know people have been saying that Rose is the only one who can create his own offense, but if you get Boozer the ball in the right places, he does damage. Great low post scorer, and usually a solid rebounder.
His biggest problem is usually his defense, but he tends to make up for it by getting close to 20/10, and he has not really been close to doing that this post-season. Shooting under 40% from the field right now, and averaging 10.7 and 9. He needs to wake-up and realize this team needs him if they have any shot of winning a title. They are a great team, and Rose has been awesome, but Boozer needs to do his share of the heavy lifting. Defense is definitely something they have to stress, as they have been getting smoked on the perimeter (especially in Game 1 against the Hawks), but they need to get Boozer back into the fray.

DanEboyParticipantThibs clearly isn’t a fan of Boozer. Lately, I have had more hope when Taj is in the game because at least he plays defense. Boozer has been getting into a lot of early foul trouble which has been disrupting the flow of his game, but still, he has been the biggest disappointment of the playoffs so far.
And Rose needs to fall out of love with his 3 point shot and attack more. Again, I know his ankle is preventing him from being as aggressive as usual but 0 free throw attempts can’t happen again. They will most certainly address the 2 spot in the off season but this is what they have now. Their recipe has been to have the defense keep the game close and then let Rose take over down the stretch.
The Mad House on Madison should be pumping tonight when they announce Rose.

Memphis MadnessParticipantThe Bulls need a better 2 guard. Afflalo would work. They still need a legit 2nd option on offense so that will be tough.
Man, LeBron and Wade should have gone to Chicago. Rose would have been a pretty good third option. lol
And Amare would have been a better fit than Boozer. Without a legit 2nd option I think they will have a lot of trouble with Miami going forward. The Bulls have to make a move or a signing based on how they match up with Miami. That is gonna be the top team for the next few years, with the Thunder and the Grizzlies being two contenders out west. I think Kobe has peaked, Pau is currently peaking, and I think Artest is falling rapidly.
Chicago will have a problem with Miami due to Wade and LeBron on the wings. Getting a backup shooter won’t really solve that problem. The Heat lack a true center but Noah is not enough of a scoring threat to give them problems. Bosh/Boozer is probably a wash. I am not really sure what they need, but Afflalo could help. Then bring Bogans off the bench.
I also like Rip Hamilton for the Bulls. Good shooter, efficient scorer. Good halfcourt player. Taj Gibson, Ronnie Brewer, and the Bulls’ two first round picks should be enough to get it done. They would miss Gibson’s inside play but he isn’t really that big big guy you need off the bench (like Big Baby). Somewhat undersized at the 4 spot. Kurt Thomas and Asik might be enough up front, and they could probably sign another big man. The Bulls would still have the 44th pick and Vernon Macklin could be a solid long-term replacement.
Afflalo would be a nice addition. If they couldn’t get him though then they need to look at getting Rip Hamilton. That would give the Bulls 3 solid scoring options around Rose (Rip, Boozer, and Deng). They could still bring a good defender (Bogans), a great shooter (Korver), and a couple of good bigs (Thomas, Asik) off the bench. Those guys along with Noah would be a more balanced 9 man rotation. Rose and Noah are very young, but Boozer and Deng are a little older. Korver also may be at the top of his game. So I think that they need to win in the next 3 years. Adding Rip would give them a great shot at winning next year. I think the Bulls really miss Ben Gordon. I think they miss Captain Kirk too. This Bulls team may not be that much better than the Bulls team 2 years ago.

HitsterParticipantThe Bulls would probably want something from Detroit to take Rip Hamilton off their hands but he would be a good fit for the Bulls. Boozer was their big signing and needs to step up as their senior player and main front court scorer. One good thing for the Bulls is that a lot of good veterans may want to join the D-Rose party so they could add a good player or two for veteran minimum deals.
With those two late draft picks, one of the Duke seniors would be a solid choice and maybe a big man prospect who Kurt Thomas could help bring along or they maybe package them and look to move into the top 20 to get best player available. With a pick due from Charlotte over the next few years and the two picks this year, the Bulls do have a few nice trading chips. Maybe John Paxson even looks to trade the 2011 picks into ones in next year’s much deeper draft.
