I was looking at the 2011 draft, and it seems to me this draft is alot like a weak version of last years draft. Both drafts were headlined by very talente PG’s, had a wide variety of PF’s, a couple talented combo gaurds, and some talented wings. Usually they fall in the same spot when looking at the final draft, and this years mocks.

For instance…These are players with somewhat similar roles that will end up being drafted around the same time. These arent comparisons lol.

John Wall and Kyrie Irving- Both expected to be 1st overall.

Evan Turner/Alec Burks- Best SG’s in SG empty drafts.

Wesley Johnson/Jan Vesely- Should be selected early, SF’s with athletisism that can shoot.

Derrick Favors/Jonas Valanciunas- Projects with many question marks.

    DeMarcus Cousins/Enes Kanter- Kentucky PF/C’s.

Greg Monroe/Donatas Motiejunas- Offensive minded, skilled bigs.

Al Forouq Aminu/Terrence Jones- Wings to be selected late lotto.
    Gordan Hayward/Kawhi Leonard
    Paul George/Marcus Morris

Ed Davis/Tristan Thompson (if declaring)- Young defensive minded PF’s.

    Bismack Biyambo/Kevin Seraphin-Overrated international prospects.

    James Anderson/Klay Thompson-Prolific college scorers.

Trevor Booker/Kenneth Faried-High energy hardworking guys.

Hassan Whiteside/Bebe-Very tall and long defensive players with potential.

Jordan Crawford/Marshon Brooks-Exciting scorers that are undersized a bit for SG.

And instead of having Bledsoe, Bradley, as freshman PG’s you have Selby, and Knight.

Kemba and Fredette dont translate well, neither does Cole Aldrich. Seems fairly similar drafts to me, 2011 draft maybe a bit better then we give it credit for so Im not going to bash it until I see most of these Euro prospects play, and how the prospects translate to the pro game.

2011 is not like 2010 in this one and only regard: there’s no clear-cut 1st overall pick. Last year, John Wall was the consensus 1st overall pick from Midnight Madness until the moment he was picked. This year, players like Harrison Barnes, Perry Jones, Kyrie Irving, Derrick Williams, and Jared Sullinger have all seen time at the top of numerous mock drafts, including this site. Even now, lottery teams are debating whether to take Williams or Irving 1st if they were to win the lottery. I agree with all of your other points comparing this year to last year except the Wall/Irving point.

Also you have to consider two other things. 1: the international players are much better than they ever have been. They are all stars, not only on their respective teams but also these teams are some of the best teams internationally. Valanciunas, Motiejunas, Vesely, Kanter, Biyombo, Mirotic, Bogdonovich, Lima (Brazil PG), Noguira (possibly, but doubt it), Shemardini, Rabeseda, Aguilar, Benzing…. All are very good international players and about 11 of them will get drafted possibly more!

2: Also a correction I think needs to made at the very beginning of the post. I think Valanciunas will be a Center. Yes, he is a project, so not much difference in that respect to Favors. But still the Center changes it a bit. And I truly think Vesely is more of a PF than a SF. You may not know this but he is not a very good ball handler or rebounder. How is he supposed to play SF offensively when every time he handles the ball he turns it over? (I think that’s what he would do as a SF, but not a PF, because you don’t have to be a good ball handler to be a good PF, but you do have to be one in order to be a good SF) And he also can’t rebound very well even though he is 6’11. His position is a bit of a question mark in those respects but I think he will end up being a PF in the end not a 3 like many people think. With that being said, you really can’t compare him to any wing player in the 2010 draft. Nor can you compare him to any PF in the 2010 draft, because of his lack of rebounding. So even though he is very athletic and very good intangibles guy he is what makes this draft interesting and different from every other draft.
