Memphis MadnessParticipantI have been hearing about Adonis Thomas for a couple of years now knowing that U of Memphis had him in his sights and that Melrose started off the year rated number one in the country. I know some guys that played against him and they say he is good, but Adonis Thomas’ team lost 2 of their 3 matchups.
Last year he was rated number 1 according to one scouting service, and this year he made the Parade All-America first team.
He goes around 6’6 so he sounds like a small forward, I hear he is working on his jumper. Of the times I have seen him he looks decent in size but not particularly chiseled. Hope he doesn’t turn into a tweener.
In the McDonald’s dunk contest he showed nice hops but he couldn’t connect on his dunks. Didn’t shoot particulary well in the McDonald’s game and the Nike Hoops Summit. Not sure what he had in the Jordan Brand game, couldn’t find a box score. Anyone know?
Overall, he sounds like a nice player and shoot be a great teammate. Doesn’t sound like a one-and-done even though this site has him at 10 or 11 in next year’s draft. He sounds a little like Thaddeous Young which would be a great thing, but I am not sure he is in the elite of the 2011-2012 freshman class.
Can anyone add anything about Adonis Thomas?
U of Memphis looks to be very good next year with a lot of depth and upside, but I doubt that they are in the same class as UNC.

Lotto StudParticipantHaven’t seen anything on him other than clips & All Star games. He will be a key piece if he can get a J. More of a physical specimen to me who will use his body to overpower his defenders. He will be a freak once he hits the weight room on campus, he already has that strong build. He is far from a one & done prospect IMO, I can see him sticking around for 3-4 years. He will buy into Pastner’s system & his vision for what he has for the team to stick around.

Memphis MadnessParticipanttyga23,
I hope he stays a few years, that would really help the team out. With next year’s LOADED draft class (and with Will Barton probably going pro) he might stick around for at least a couple of years. That should help his game out too, and will allow himself to become a COMPLETE NBA -level small forward.
I have seen some people list U of M at #10 going into next year. I would bet that UNC will be #1. Ohio State with Sully will be up there as will Kentucky with their recruits, Doron Lamb, and maybe Jones and Knight.
I think UNC is in great shape with Zeller, Barnes, and John Henson being veterans and a great trio night in and night out. Plus Marshall at the point. The new recruits are gravy. Kentucky is somewhat different in that if Jones and Knight go pro they are gonna rely heavily on their incoming freshman class. If they gel then they will be top five, if not they will be a number 10 to 20 team.
For Memphis, if Adonis Thomas plays great then we will be looking very very good. Wesley Witherspoon might be a great piece. If Will Barton, Joe Jackson, and Tarik Black continue to improve then U of M can be an Elite 8 (or higher) team.

WizardofOzParticipantDX is high on him. They said that he has really improved from a year ago. And during the all-star games, he always played well in practice but didn’t do anything during the games. He’s a 1-&-done candidate.

jeff416ParticipantFrom what I heard he was one of the best in all of the all star games practices, but didn’t really do much in the games. He’s very athletic and has a NBA ready body. Also has a good mid range game, one of the best defenders in the class, and can get to the rim when ever he wants.
Other than Anthony Davis, I think he has the most NBA potential in this class. Should be interesting to see how he does next season.

HaleParticipantI can’t wait to watch the Tigers next year, this is the best team they’ve had since Rose. We’re not at that 1 seed level yet, but I think a 2 or 3 seed isn’t out of reach.

NYCarolinaParticipantI’ve read that he has the most upside of ALL players in this class. He’s 6-6, prototype wing and pretty much a good slasher, above average shooter and a below average ball handler. I think he can be a top 5 pick in 2013, but should be able to be the man at Memphis next season
