valentineHere we go again. First it was carmelo and the nuggets. now its the magic and dwight. everywhere i go all i hear is dwight howard rumors leaving my beloved magic. going to La, NY, Chi-town even the nets, i aint gonna lie its scary thinking our franchise might bolt on us like lebron and melo did to there franchises . and we go back to being a lottery team. we have done everything we can to build a winner around him. going over luxury tax, making trades, and we have had some success going to the playoffs, finals a few years back, contender mostly every season under stan van gundy. but this was the same thing with bron and melo. owenerships willingy to spend and make moves to satisty there franchise player. i knw dwight wants to win badly and i dont blame him. i just hope he stays here and be a tim duncan. win with the same team . but now these days every superstar wants to leave and join up with other stars and win easily. shrugs

BKKnicksfanParticipantThey need a really good deal to keep him there. I think the team right now is terrible around him and as of today, he’s gone.

WizardofOzParticipantBlame Otis Smith. He should be fired for the way he built this team. He traded defense for offense, and VC was a horrible acquisition. And as much as I love Gil, I think he was a bad acquisition and Rashard was definitely and upgrade. The series definitely isn’t over yet, but if they lose in the 1st on 2nd round, there’s a high chance they trade Dwight in the offseason to get value for him.

doubledribblerParticipantHoward will get a "really good deal" no matter where he goes. He’s the best center in the league! I would hate to see what he could do with even competent defenders around him. I think he will go because there are not many ways for Orlando to improve. Sure he can keep getting better, but a lot of the guys around him have peaked and the Arenas deal is looking much worse since not only did he lose his shot, but his confidence and his swagger. It’s obviously his choice to go or stay, but if he demands out they need to find a trade partner to get something back and maybe shed a bad deal or two. You can’t blame a guy wanting to go when management can’t put the proper pieces around him.
Everything started going the wrong direction when they gave away Courtney Lee for Vince Carter. Then a bunch of other terrible moves were made.

esperanzafleet69Participanti dont think he was talking about a new contract.. i think he meant the magic need to make a good deal (trade) to keep him there… either or, i gotta say van gundy is a terrible coach… their whole offensive scheme is take outside shots to open up space for dwight when it should have been a pick and roll offense with both bass and dwight.. they tried to live by the 3 and died by the 3 all these years…

No he’s not. He’s a great coach. He has TERRIBLE players there. That and Dwight Howard’s offensive game took 6 years to develop, thus he only had the option of surrounding him with shooters and let him do him in the paint.

mosdefParticipantI understand that the Magic can get more if they trade him before the season then during the season. Utah and Denver got really good deals by trading their players early. Thing is, Dwight might not get traded at all with the new CBA and the supposed franchise tag, which I dont think will happen cuz players dont want restricted movement, especially if they cut the salary cap

NashyMingParticipantUnfortunately, the Magic had never surrounded Dwight Howard with the right players.
Dwight is talent, but given his limitation on offense, he can’t be the first option. They need a superstar shooting guard that can create and make shots anytime. Unfortunately, TMac decided to force his way out before D12’s rookie season, they could have been a championship combo when TMac was still on top of his game.
I think if the Magic can’t reach the ECF, he may pull a Lebron and force his way out.

M-DYMESParticipantLeBron forced his way out? I could have sworn he became a free agent and was free to go wherever he chose. He didn’t force his way out. If anyone did that was Melo.

SteroidParticipantOtis Smith will have to pull off miracles to clean up the mess that’s around Dwight, if they want him to stay. They have too many bad contracts, and none of those guys have any real value on the market to get something in exchange that would make Dwight stay. Dwight will waste his prime years if he stays. I don’t think he should "force" his way out, but if the Magic were smart, they will try to get something good in return for him.
