I know it’s pretty obvious this guys never gonna play for the TWolves, so why exactly are they still holding onto him. I mean ANYTHING has got to be better than just losing a lotto pick because he doesn’t want to play for you. Trade him to the Clippers or Kings or maybe even NY would be willing to deal for him. I mean is there something I’m missing that he can’t be traded or is Minnesota just that stupid?

Why do you say he is never gonna play for them??

They are hanging on to him because they think he will be a superstar. In their eyes, he will change their franchise.  It is better to get a HOF player late than never, right?? How stupid do they look if they trade him for Bledsoe and Aminu if he is the next Pistol Pete?? I mean, you can look at it from 2 sides but you have to think, these guys’ jobs are at risk…

I was high on Rubio, mainly because he played well in the finals against team USA 3 years ago. But he hasn’t progressed overseas. While I still think his playmaking ability will crossover to the NBA game, I think his value has DROPPED.

Your gonna laugh, but I think a team who should look at him is the Atlanta Hawks. I think they need a shakeup and could use Rubio and develop him after Hinrich is gone.

Atlanta is a good fit, but who do they give up????? JSmoove, Crawford, Horford, Joe????? I think not, it would be hard to get a value for him from Atlanta.

Atlanta is gonna break up that core. My guess is Josh Smith and a 2012 1st rounder for Rubio and the 2011 1st round pick, if the pick isn’t first overall.

Edit: More players would be involved, but that’s the base of the deal.

They need to get some luck and draft Irving. Then trade Rubio to the clippers for their own 2012 pick back,

Why would LAC do that when you have Williams for 2 more years, and Bledsoe who looked good last season?

Maybe because Rubio will be better than those guys? Do you think Williams is the PG of the future for the Clippers? Bledsoe will be a great backup PG in the NBA. Rubio is a young stud

How can you say Hawks will break up their main core, when they finally have a chance to topple Orlando and could go further in the playoffs than some people think. If the Hawks would upgrade their PG, it would be a veteran PG, because developing another young PG (like they tried to do with Teague) will waste the prime years of Johnson and JSmith, their built for winning now.

If he hasn’t played for them yet when will he? I’m not sure how long they own his rights for but I remember the conflict being he didn’t want to play in Minny…and maybe that’s why they drafted Flynn that year. Idk but it just seems dumb to let an at least decent asset just slip away. I think multiple 1st rounders this year and next would be good for them but who knows maybe someone finds him valuable enough to give up more. I just think the twolves would be really dumb to not do anything at all with him.

Too much money tied in star players. They won’t be able to win now and they are behind Miami, Boston and Chicago by a good margin. They beat Orlando in the regular season series. They need to make a move to shakeup the roster to save money and possibly improve.

If the lottery order stays the same, ok the Pistons trade their 2011 first for Rubio.Kahn would probably pick Jan Vesely since they already have several tweeners already and he is a euro that makes pretty slammajammabingbongs so perfect match.

Memphis was going to draft him but he said he did not want to go there so they took Thabeet. I don’t know anything about Rubio saying he did not want to play for Minny before they took him, because if that would have been the case I think they would have took Curry to go along with Flynn.

If Rubio was said not to wanna go to Minny before he was picked there along with Memphis, my assumption was that he was wanting to go to Sacramento.

I wish this did happen man…but knowing Detroit this most likely won’t. But he is more valuable than just about everyone in the draft besides Irving and possibly Derrick Williams so why don’t teams go after him is what I’m wondering. Especially for teams like Toronto where he’d be a perfect fit or Detroit or Cleveland…you can’t tell me they’d take Kemba Walker over Ricky if they wanted to pick up a franchise PG.

This was part of the plan, he wasn’t expected ot leave Spain for 1-3 years.

I remember reading that with the threat of the lockout, he could stay for another year before coming over. He needs to work on his efficiency anyway.

And ProudGrandpa is right. He said before the draft that if he wasn’t a top-3 pick that he was going to stay in Spain for a few years.

He has never come right out and said, "no, I will not come and play for Minny" Its just speculation, rumors. Kahn obviously thinks he will come and play for him, that’s he drafted him and he hasn’t traded his rights because he thinks he’s going to be special. They drafted Flynn right afterwards because in that draft the Wolves needed a PG right then and there. something immediate. Imagine if they drafted Rubio and Derozan but Rubio did not come right away. Derozan probably would have had to play the point while they wait for Rubio to come over. I truly think the Wolves drafted Flynn as a filler PG while they waited for Rubio. Now was that the right pick? of course not, in my opinion if he wanted a filler PG than he should have gone with Stephen Curry or Brandon Jennings.

What do with Rubio, well you just wait and see. According to Kahn he’s supposed to come over next year (2011-2012 season). This is why Kahn will probably not select Irving. Most definitely Flynn will be traded this offseason, and if Rubio ends up not coming over in 2012 then he will probably be traded too, but if he does well then it all depends on his production and if he really does save the Wolves’ franchise. Obviously Kahn thinks he will, which is why he hasn’t traded him and probably won’t trade him until after he has already come over.

he does not have the quickness or the ball-handling ability.  And if Kahn passes on Irving because of Rubio, then he is stupid.  Irving can penetrate and shoot.  Rubio can’t do either thing as well as Irving.  You are right, though, that Flynn was the wrong pick.  Curry, Jennings, and Holiday are all better players at the point guard position than Flynn.  Derozan would’ve been a better pick as well, but the "filler" point guard should be a vet–we had Ramon Sessions last season and Luke Ridnour this season.  Sessions certainly didn’t play well for us last season and Ridnour has been better, but no star. But for a "filler" type player, you’re probably better served getting a reasonably priced veteran than sinking the sixth overall pick into a player who is by definition going to be replaced at some point.

If  I was Kahn I would give him an ultimatum that if he is coming over this season, he has to report over before the draft, because if that were not to happen Minny would be screwed for passing on Irving.

Well damn I didn’t know that…well if he comes then cool but like memphis tyga said they need to know for sure because I’ve never heard him say he was definitely coming either. And missing out on Irving would suck balls for them.

Rubio said out his mouth he wants to play for Miami,New York, Los Angeles etc. A big market and he can pretty much choose his team or he can stay in Spain and live it up he doesnt really need the NBA so Minny should get what they can and draft Irving this year or just relocate because nobody wants to be in Minnesota with fat chicks

Google and you will find a article where he says he is gonna play for the Twolves. Might not be this year because of the lock out though.

Maybe, maybe not. But why even give up a top 5-7 pick in what looks to be a MONSTER draft for Rubio? You put Rubio in the 2012 draft, he’s not a top 11 pick. That’s a terrible idea to give back a top 5-7 pick.

i dont think this kid will ever be better than somebody like calderon.. not a good scorer, below average defender, but can make his teammates a lot better..
