Lotto StudParticipantFor the season he put up 6.8 PPG 5.3 RPG 0.9 BLKPG which is really disappointing, but he really did not play much while in Jersey. I really was upset about us giving up a player that I wanted all along during the draft last year, but if it called for bringing in a Superstar I couldn’t complain especially if his name is DWill. As far as Favors role with Utah I definitely don’t see him reaching the Star potential he would have reached with us, because Utah has two bigs in Millsap & Jefferson which they are basing their frontcourt off of for years to come. I just can’t see Favors beating either one of those guys out for a starting spot there.
What are your post season thoughts on Favors now that the season is over & he got traded to Utah?

ProudGrandpaParticipantHe is an interesting player, time will tell as to whether he can fit in with the new, defnesive-oriented system in Utah. I see him being a potential 14-8 guy.
That better?

JoeWolf1He started out the year rebounding really well. He was averaging over 7 early on, I remember, but he simply got beat out by Kris Humphries having a career year, played a role off the bench and still did pretty well. I don’t feel you can truly evaluate his season, by just his stats.
I think Derrick Favors will be a very good player, and for a 19 year old he had a pretty solid rookie year. I don’t expect a lot of scoring from him, but I think he’ll be better. Don’t forget, Millsap flourished as a fill in starter as and reserve in Utah before Carlos Boozer left. I think Favors will enjoy a bigger role, thus producing more and I think by the time he’s 22 he’ll be a double double type of player. He won’t beat out Millsap or Jefferson next year, but he can play next to either one making him a very valuable player for the future of that team. I think he’ll up his production to around 10 and 7 with a block and a half next year.

ProudGrandpaParticipantHe is a talented guy, but I don’t see him staying in Utah for 5+ years.

JoeWolf1I’m not sure what his contract reads, but the concept of a more mature Derrick Favors at PF and Jefferson at C and Millsap at PF and Favors at C is pretty intriguing. That could be a very formidable 3 man rotation.

butidonthavemoneyActually, I believe it’s in the neighborhood of 2 years, 29 million.

JoeWolf1No, Jefferson, Grandpappy said he didnt’ see him sticking around for 5 years.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 04/15/2011 - 7:14pm #521745

butidonthavemoneyAt least now we know both for future reference.
Oh, and Millsap is 2 years, 14 million.
Now that we have the collection of raw data, we should analyze it and find the best way for my Jazz to trade Jefferson… Think the Bobcats would take him in exchange for a few expirings?

Lotto StudParticipantMe personally I would keep the trio of Millsap Jefferson Favors. You don’t have to worry bout Millsap or Favors going anywhere no time soon, but I think Favors growth will get stunted by lack of play due to the other two players. I just would like to see the best case scenario for him to reach his peak.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 04/15/2011 - 7:22pm #521750

JoeWolf1Nomoney, why do you want to unload Jefferson. I’m not a big Jazz fan, but I’m just curious, because he is one of the few centers in the league capable of going for 20 and 10
0 - Posted on: Fri, 04/15/2011 - 7:32pm #521754

butidonthavemoneyHe never fit the system. He holds the ball too much, he takes bad shots, he can’t play defense (don’t give me that two blocks a game crap either), and as of now he’s stunting the development of our promising rookies (Evans and Favors).
He has a severely negative +/- ratio on the floor and the team has a positive +/- ratio when he’s on the bench. He’s never once proven that his style of play leads to wins.
On top of that, I blame his acquisition for indirectly causing Deron Williams’ frustration, which led to Jerry Sloan’s departure and subsequently led to the destruction of the Utah Jazz.
I’ve written bloody essays on the subject, but have given up on trying to convince people that he isn’t helping the Jazz at all. I know management and the coaching staff is frustrated with him (his defense in particular). I only hope we can move him before next year.

JoeWolf1Would you be opposed to the Jazz drafting the enigma from congo Bismack Biyombo? Hold Jefferson for a year or two and have a defensive presensce in waiting.
I personally think Favors could play some center down the line, although he’d probably be better as a PF.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 04/15/2011 - 7:48pm #521756

butidonthavemoneyI don’t see what Biyombo offers that Evans and Favors doesn’t.
Jeremy Evans — if you haven’t seen him play — is a freak of nature. In terms of jumping ability (quickness, explosiveness, and hangtime) I’d say he’s on the level of Blake Griffin. That’s not me being biased either. On top of that he has a very promising jump shot (over 70% from the stripe) and an outstanding basketball IQ. He’s a twig, but he is already a solid defender with more potential in this area. At 6’9"/6’10" with a long wingspan, I’d like him to be our energetic power forward off the bench, as he has the potential to be great at that.
I’ve watched Biyombo a bit, and I haven’t been as impressed as some of the other posters here. In the Nike Hoop Summit practices he was dominated by a younger, relatively unknown Przemyslaw Karnowski. That’s a concern for someone projected to be the next Ben Wallace.
If the Jazz were to pair Biyombo in the frontcourt with Favors, we’d have to see a lot of improvement from Favors offensively, as I don’t see Biyombo ever becoming even an average scorer.
I wouldn’t mind it though. We could leave him overseas until Millsap and/or Jefferson are unloaded and Favors gets some seasoning. That might pay dividends in the long-term. Personally, I’d rather snag Kanter or Valanciunas, even though they have certain concerns as well.

JoeWolf1See, I’m not familiar with Evans at all, and Biyombo either. That does make Evans an entriguing prospect. I’m a bit skeptical of Biyombo just because I haven’t seen much of him, and I’ve seen so many "raw athletes" fail, but with the Jazz having 2 lotto picks, this may be a good time to roll the dice.
What pieces do you think Utah will hold onto as they continue to rebuild?
veteran wise, that is. I think Haywood and Favors are two really good pieces..too bad they couldn’t hold onto Wes Mathews
0 - Posted on: Fri, 04/15/2011 - 8:01pm #521760

butidonthavemoneyKevin O’Connor (Utah’s GM) claims that the team is going to be built around Devin Harris, Raja Bell, Gordon Hayward and Derrick Favors. I highly doubt that is the case though. Managers can be cunning and deceptive for reasons beyond my understanding.
Here’s some quick highlights of Evans…

kobyzParticipantas for Jeremy Evans, i see him as a clone of Maceo Baston and i don’t think he is more than an end of a roster type player in the NBA.

omphalosParticipantJefferson isn’t a good fit with rebuilding teams. He needs to be on a veteran team where he won’t consider himself a focal point in the offense. I wouldn’t mind seeing him back with the Celtics to fill the void left by Perkins. Yes, he isn’t a good defender, but if Rivers sticks around that could change, plus he’s a lot better in the post than Perkins offensively. Is it just me or has Jefferson gotten a bigger head since Williams made that comment about making him an All-Star?
Evans looks like a great energy guy, doesn’t have expectations to be great either being a later pick, if he can fill out a little he’ll add some valuable depth to the Jazz bench. If he really does have a high basketball IQ he could be a starter. I know little about him, just going off NoMoney’s appraisal here, but low bball IQ is often the problem with athletic freaks who don’t make it. If Evans doesn’t have the same pitfalls then I see success for him.

OhCanada-ParticipantLol at Maceo Baston. More like a raw Keon Clark. Baston had nowhere near that kind of athletisism.
Im completely with NoMoney on this one, gotta move Jefferson. I see it everytime the Raps play in a different scenerio, Bargnani averages 20-ppg, and Calderon near 10-apg, but on a night to niht basis they are consistantly holding back the Raptors success do to the influence they have on the team defensively. Every once in a while Bargnani cant miss or Calderon gets 15-assists whch helps the Raps win but with goo defense any game is within reach.
I feel you pain NoMoney.

Lotto StudParticipantDo Favors need another change of scenery & would the Denver trade been a better trade for him?
0 - Posted on: Sat, 04/16/2011 - 5:33am #521793
SwatLakeCityParticipantI think its undecided with Favors. He’s done well even though he was used as trade bait. His averages may not say much but that does not show his true potential and how he actually grew behind Millsap and Jefferson. Utah really used him well even though he was behind two burling PF’s. Next year I think he works on his defense and adds more weight and possibly starts next year at the 5.
I really like Jefferson, but I do think it would be better if he played the 4. I want to see Millsap start averaging double figures in rebounding again like he was doing on the bench as a backup to Boozer. So I’m thinking starting Favors at Center, Jefferson at the 4, and Millsap as his backup would work out very nicely. But if Jefferson does not work out as a 4 either, I would not be opposed to trading him. If Utah does trade him I would want a defensive presence Center not a Center that should be playing the 4. But time will tell if Jefferson will really work out as a 4.

Lotto StudParticipantThis may sound weird, but I can see Favors with the Dwight type of physique. If you look at Favors coming out of HS he was 220 & his Fr. year at Georgia Tech he bulked up a lot, which I believe stole a lot of his athleticism away. I think he will be really chisled in the next couple of years. He already has Dwight type shoulders.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 04/16/2011 - 6:09am #521805

omphalosParticipantI actually agree with you there memphis, Favors looks really solidly built. He probably won’t get to the Dwight level of bulk whilst retaining that much athleticism, but if he continues to gain weight he could be an athletic, shot-blocking C like Dwight or DeAndre Jordan.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 04/16/2011 - 6:24am #521811
Lotto StudParticipantThe only thing I nit-pick about Favors is he is so robotic with his motions/movements. It’s like he can’t get loose everything is robotic from the way he runs to the way he attacks the basket & dunks. He never has any bending of the knees when he dunks everything is straight up if you take notice. Favors is really a stiff guy.

BKKnicksfanParticipantI love Jeremy Evans, I always trade him to NY in 2k11 lol
I think Favors will win out the PF spot next season, simply because, they will run that young lineup. I think the Jazz now need a SF and a Center. I like Heyward at that SG spot.

Snubs15ParticipantLol. Yeh i always trade for Evans too in 2k haha
0 - Posted on: Sat, 04/16/2011 - 12:31pm #521979
TheLastWordParticipantHe is a great defensive player already. As mentioned, he is robotic on his post moves but is athletic enough to still score. His jump shot and free throws need a little more arc, they hit off the front rim 50% of the time..
