jjonzParticipantWhich team can pair multiple young players with upside, and get their fanbase excited. The Cavs are the obvious choice. They paid 12mill for that extra unprotected lottery pick from the Clips. Charles Grant (GM) is a former Scout so i expect the Cavs to hit a homerun with this draft.

TyroberParticipantPeople act like they paid 12 million for the pick since they picked up Baron Davis’ contract. The will have to pay him another year than they would have Mo Williams, but they would have still had to pay for someone to be their starting Point Guard which would be around 7-8-9 million. Paying 3-5 million to rebuild faster sounds like a great deal to me.

jjonzParticipantwhere are those figures from. They could have kept Mo and saved $$$ makes less than that. What PG would they have picked up anyway, this is about them paying BDub & getting that extra pick. A more logical solution was to wait until offseason & get RFelton (Who i think is a great PG) who is signed to a reasonable contract, instead of getting BDub/lottery pick & putting an extra 12 mill on your books.

richiedehnelParticipantinstead of trading mo williams for baron davis and an extra pick, why dont you keep mo williams draft a good prospect unless you plan on drafting kyrie irving and then go after harrison barnes, jared sullinger, or austin rivers next season who’s going to be your franchise superstar of the future instead of an old pg who’s had up and down seasons sence leaving the hornets organization, and if derrick williams doesnt declare for the nba draft, they’re going to have 2 top 5 picks for a weak draft, doesnt make logical sesne for a team thats "going to win an nba championship before lebron"

HotSnotParticipantLogic involves making assumptions based on fact. Felton is not a FA after this season. Denver has a team option… expect it to be picked up.
Tyrober is completely correct if you look at things from that perspective.
The Cavs nearly bought Detroits pick aswell. Still might happen this offseason.

surveParticipantwell, it depends on how the lottery turns out. myself, I would want Irving and Barnes with those 2 picks if I could get them (if Barnes comes out). would love a combo like Walker and D. Williams too. how about picking 2 young frontcourt players with size like Kanter and P. Jones? Cleveland shouldnt mess this up, but something tells me they will.

sammybuckeye13ParticipantAs everyone has reiterated, the Cavs are relatively solid at the point (BD, Sessions, Gibson, all of whom could be a starter on many teams), PF (Hickson/Jamison/Samuels), and C (Varejao – he isn’t great but they were much much better with him in the lineup).
That said, no matter who they go with talent-wise, ONE of them has to be a wing — Eyenga and Harris were sort of impressive this year but neither is the answer, and Parker’s contract is expiring.
I would go with Derrick Williams first because he could play the 3 and add a good amount of strength and at least make them more formidable in that respect. Then with that second pick I’m targeting Knight to play the 2 and inject some quickness.
PG – Baron Davis/Ramon Sessions
SG – Brandon Knight/Daniel Gibson
SF – Derrick Williams/Christian Eyenga
PF – Antawn Jamison/J.J. Hickson
C – Anderson Varejao/Samardo Samuels
Irving is defintely markedly better than Davis, Sessions and Gibson, but when you break it down, the Cavs get the best production out of their PG’s of anyone in the league: Davis averages 14.6 and 6.3, Sessions averages 13.1 and 5.2, and Gibson goes for 11.6 and 3. Considering Irving’s potential being injury prone/lack of Paul/Rose/Wall upside, he isn’t worth taking when they have gigantic holes at the 2 and 3. Sorry, I love their effort and I know they’re young, but you can’t ever step on the court expecting to beat another NBA team when you’re starting Eyenga and Manny Harris.
I think the same goes for their big men. Kanter has question marks and does not have elite upside, PJIII is way too much of a ?, and neither Vesely or Valanciunas really fit. When you look at they have already, they have a very solid vet in Jamison (18 and 6.7), and Hickson who is averaging 13.7 and 8.6 and is just 22! Meanwhile, Varejao is a top 10 defensive center in the L.
To me it’s clear that they need wings, and there should be guys available.

HotSnotParticipantAgain with the "logic". For all of you capologists out there… what happens if you don’t spend up to the cap every season? You lose out on the midlevel and you have a really tough time making trades without ripping up half your roster. It really depends on your strategy. If you’re the Thunder and Kings you take your time and build through the draft all the while staying under the cap untill your players blossom. You can use your cap space to absorb other teams salary for future picks and/or young players. The Cavs don’t appear to be that patient. They likely hope to get this "rebuilding" thing done in 2-3 years. Once you get under the cap its really hard to get back over it to keep up with the ORL and LAL spending habits. You also lose out on your midlevel. Being able to spend more gives you additional options. Not every team can afford to spend that high but you’ll notice most teams spend up to the tax line every year. Baron’s contract isn’t all that great but the Cav’s aren’t going to win for the next 2 years anyways. By the time they’re a "piece or two away" low and behold you have this large expiring contract on your hands along with picks and young assets. If your looking to net a big fish you can make it happen at just the right time. Timing is everyting.
If your going for a quick rebuild you do it like the Cavs. If your planning on being more patient… you shed salary and obligations and make decisions that may take 4-5 years to make a complete team.

jjonzParticipantCavs must be the Hare, they do not posess the assest to get back relevance as quickly as most bottom level teams do i.e Celtics had the #5 pick in the draft & AlJeff. And they got back 2HOFers. The Cavs have AJam 15mill expiring contract/14-15mill TPE. & maybe RSess. The Thunder have to be the Tortoise, they were fortunate that a Next Level talent was on the Board when they were @ the Top of the draft & they drafted well after they got their SS.

elevation1013ParticipantAssuming the new CBA doesn’t make it a two year mandatory stint in college the 2012 draft is going to be PACKED with talent. Having acquired Minnesota’s unprotected 2012 1st, the Clippers should have a good shot at adding two more stud players to pair with EG and the Blakeshow after next season. For some reason I just feel Cleveland is going to F it up this year…
