I am in favor of blowing things up that don’t work, or if a team is stuck in middle that has aspirations for being Champions. The Rockets are a collection of good but not great players, they do not have that One True Star that every Major Team has/or needs. The Owner wants Championships so i don’t think the Denver Nuggetts model is one that this team is looking for. RAlderman has done a great job coaching this wounded team for the last couple of years, now i think its time to part ways & start the reconstruction period.  The GM is savy so he should stick around to over-see the rebuilding project.

The Good: Servicable Young Players. 2 draft picks this year, their own lottery pick & Olando Magic’s 1st rnd pick

KLowry could avg 16-18ppg/6-8asst. Is a great PG that is signed to a reasonable contract. Keeper

PPatterson Has the Look of 6th Man with avg’s of 10-12ppg/6-8rebs/ 2-3Charges taken a game. Keeper

GDragic is a Solid Backup. Keeper

CBudinger. I think he could be a great 6th man where you can hide some of his weak points.

The Bad: 6th highest payroll for 2010 season for a team that missed the playoffs. And the older/recycled players who may or may not have value on the trade market.

first the older guys by old i mean when considering rebuilding you should try to trade players who have little to no upside. LScola (30yrs old) has 4yr 35mill left on his deal. He is a rugged low post player who would do well as a 2nd/3rd option on a playoff team. Current avg’s 18ppg/8brds.

KMartin 28yrs old 2yrs & 24mill left on his contract. He is a great 2nd option this is their biggest assest to me a 28 yr old SG who will get you 23-25 ppg, in the prime of his career.

BMiller (good luck with that) To back up their Oft-Injured Center, The Rockets signed a 34 yr old Oft-Injured Center.

Now the Recycled players. Hou took 2 recycled players away from NJ CLee/TWill. With a move to a different enviroment both of these guy’s could still contribute.

Thabeet. Maybe a team can can use his 6 fouls per game and try to develop him as a Mutombo type of Big.

JHill He’s only 23 yrs old could be a ARandolph type if he can get some playing time to show what he can do.

TWill is a head Case trade him.

Currently constructed this team will either continue this 8th seed push @ the end of the Season or be just good/bad enough to get a 6-8th pick in the 2012 draft.

Top 5 Talent is Needed if you want a Chance @ a Ring.

Here is my blow up plan

Trade KMartin/TWill to Cavs for TPE(14mill traded player exemption) & AJamison 15mill expiring Contract/1st rnd pick in 2012

Maybe BScott can help TWill reach his potential and KMartin would be an ideal teammate for Incoming Rookies

Trade Scola/CLee to Pistons for Rips eventual Buy-Out.

Piston can have a great froncourt of Daye/Scola/Monroe. Plus whoever they get in the draft.

This would keep Rockets young and Ready to draft a Star in 2012 Draft, with Cap space to add a key player.

    Next years team

    PG. KLowry

SG. TJones (14th pick in 11′ draft)

    SF CBudinger

PF JWilliams (Magic’s pick in 11 draft)

    C. JHill/Thabeet

With a Chance to draft ADavis or any one of the Top 5 studs in 2012 draft.

     That’s next year’s team? Hell No…..

We’re keeping Scola ’till the end.. Patterson is our PF of the future.
Thabeet needs to stay and they can work with him. I don’t really care about Jordan Hill at this point, I’ve seen what he can do. He’s kind of soft..

Lowry, Hayes, and Lee need to stay no matter what. Lowry and Hayes led the team this year and did a great job after Battier and Brooks were traded.

I want Dragic, but I’m biased, but again. I like him and prefer to keep him.
I’m a believer in T-Will, but he won’t play with RA and Chase probably isn’t a starter even if he can fill it up.
K-Mart is a very good player and until we have a chance at that Superstar I’d prefer to keep him.
Yao will be re-signed for cheap and work his way back, fingers crossed he’s even a shell of his old self and able to stay healthy not because I want him as our Superstar, but I think he deserves to be in the league.

Brad Miller has got to go… Enough said on him. Oh & I think we traded our pick we got from Orlando..but if Phoenix drops out of Lottery we get theirs (doubt that happens). Hopefully a Euro big drops or Jimmer Fredette to bring some excitement so we can snag him, or we move up a pick; that’d be nice, but I prefer winning games.

But if they continue with the Team that they have what can they expect as far as Long-Term ChampionShips. The times that Houston has been great all required Top of the Draft Talent. 80’s with RSampson Top 5 Pick. 90’s Hakeem from Same decade as Sampson but a Top 5 Pick. Early 2000’s SFranchise/Yao Top 5 talent. Catch my drift if you are happy with 6-8th seed then keep the team intact. But i was reading about Rockets & the Owner wants ChampionShips, you don’t get Rings without TOP of the Draft Talent.

I know what you mean, we’ve had those top picks to keep us relevant and hopeful, but trading Rudy Gay really killed us now that we’re 4 years past almost or so.
I don’t see anyone in this draft that has Superstar Potential that’ll fall this low.. I just don’t think we need to trade all those players, because we can still suck and get a top pick.
Next year’s draft has Barnes, Sullinger, Rivers, Marshall, Gilchrist, Kabongo, McAdoo, and others..

I’d hate to restart all over though.. Hopefully we can acquire top talent through free agency, or trades..
& Maybe we’ll suck enough to get a  good pick in the draft.

Thats what i was talking about Tanking next year for. You have to blow it up & still give the fans reason to believe that things are about to turn around. Trade & Tank Next year & then in the 2012 draft they can have a Top 5 Stud to go with a young nucleus, they have 4 young players currently on the team to build around, plus 2 more young players coming in this draft. So if they rebuild now in 2012 they can be major players with a high elite draft Pick 2012 top 3 pick & cap room to Sign DWill who is from Texas just in Case he wants to Leave NJ. Or one of the Top 3 FA of 2012 DHoward/DWill/CP3.

I think the Rockets is a super star swingman away from being a contender.  The team is good enough to just need one more piece to be a top 5 team.  It is very tough to blow up this team with so many good players with solid contracts.  The only bad contract is Brad Miller and at 7-ft, it isn’t all that bad.  It is not too feasible to blow up the team at this point, the team is too good for a complete blow up.  Maybe they should target Danny Granger with a package of Brad Miller, Jordan Hill, Terrence Williams, Chase Budinger, or DeMarre Carroll.  Granger is in his prime while the Pacers is going young these days.

Re-sign: Hayes, Yao and maybe lure Battier back.

If Yao can stay healthy (a Big IF), then the roster would be pretty good.

    Lowry / Martin / Granger / Scola / Yao
    Dragic / Lee / Battier / Patterson / Hayes

Granger is probably not a elite super star, but he’s the best swingman available for trade at a reasonable price.  The Rockets is at the point of trying to win now than to win later though.  They do not have any young player that can be the cornerstone for an immediately rebuild and they are not bad enough to tank rightaway.  Granger’s contract isn’t too bad, even if they do this deal, it would give them a chance to win while delaying a potential rebuilding situation for 2 more seasons.  The gamble here is that if Yao Ming can stay healthy playing 25 minutes a game and still be efficient, then the Rockets can be in contention.

The Rockets can have a rotation of
    Lowry / Dragic
    Martin / Lee
    Granger / Battier
    Scoal / Patterson
    Yao / Hayes

The team would have great chemistry, no trouble maker, deep enough to be a contender.  The team is balanced with scorers, defenders, role players.  With a good coach and a good defensive scheme, this team can be a contender if stay healthy.

The thing with the Rockets is that we’re in a good position to make trades.  We have LOADS of young talent at every position.  Dragic, Lowry, Lee, Williams, Budinger, Patterson, Hill, Thabeet, Carroll

I would love to get Granger.  I mean if we’re a .500+ team with these guys, now if we can get an elite swingman along with Yao back?  We’ll be back to a title contending level.

With those moves i think that could be a great Team in the West. Along with the 2 1st rnd picks they have this year. Or if they trade the picks to the Pacers that would work also.
