Alright you know your center position sucks when Kwame Brown goes 10 for 15, 23 points and 13 rebounds.

I know this is just one game, but after this season the Heat NEED to go on a full court press to nab a talented center in free agency.

There’s only really 3 elite level center available in Tyson Chandler, Deandre Jordan, and Greg Oden.

Though Tyson Chandler would be great on the defensive end, we saw that he could not be productive on the offensive end unless he has an elite level point guard. (Not that they need him to put points on the board)

Deandre Jordan I think wouldn’t be that great of a fit because again his offense usually consists of a point guard feeding him the ball.

My choice would be Greg Oden because he is probably the best defensively out of all of these centers (if healthy) and can get his own buckets. He would also be significantly cheaper than the other two.

Tyson Chandler I’d say would be the back-up plan if the Heat don’t want to take a chance on Oden’s knees.

The Heat have been trying to get Joel Anthony and Eric Dampier to score.  I think any of the 3 would be just fine.  I would take Deandre for so many reasons but I would be happy with Chandler.  I think signing Oden would be a reactionary move, like if they lost in the first round or something.

And I don’t think the Heat can get a C as of now…. Only Eddy Curry but they’ll need to address it in the off season. I’m not too aware of their financial flexibility in the off season, but I don’t think they’ll get Greg Oden or DeAndre Jordan (I heard he is going to claim around 9-11 million dollars in the off season). IMO, they should get Eddy Curry now and see how he’ll do around the big three and see if his work ethic improves. If not, this off season they should address it.

I can see Samuel Dalembert in Miami though for the right amount of money. I think he’ll fit in perfectly.

    Btw, akhan786 are you Canadian?

I like Sammy but I think that still leaves Miami in a "center by committee" kind of deal.  I haven’t really seen Sammy since his 76ers days but back then foul trouble was frequent.  3 to 4 million a year ok but 5 would be kinda pushing it imo.

they dont need their centers to score.. all they need is to defend.. which they do a little bit above average… damps is a good defender, anthony is a good defender, haslim is a good defender… but none of them great, or great 2 way players for that matter.. jordan, oden, and chandler all have probably double the offensive moves than any of the players of the miami heat.. which changes defensive schemes dramatically against the heat’s wings and 3pt shooters…

chandler, oden, and dalembert would all be good fits…i think there best chance of getting a center is to go after dalembert because tyson chandler is going to command the most money and greg oden will more than likely stay with the blazers.

People relax. They have 2 true centers in Z and Damp who are both terrific vets. But the most exciting part of the plan is the development of Dexter Pittman. I’ve said it quite a few times, that he is their center of the future. He’s trimmed his body down and actually has a pretty cut frame now from the pics I saw. He’sz a half inch under 7 ft, strong, has decent touch around the rim, and a very nice work ethic. Reminds me of Brendan Haywood somewhat. He’s more than likely being groomed for more of a Kendrick Perkins type career though.

They cut Pittman to sign Curry. Personally, I would rather take my chances on developing Pittman. If Curry hasn’t shown signs of self motivation yet, I don’t see it happening. I don’t mean signs such as well I am over weight and I’m barely hanging on, I’m broke and might have one more chance to stay in the league, so I am going to work out again. Miami if lucky will still have the exceptions that have been granted in previous years, but who knows with the new CBA looming. I think they should really be willing to get a guy or two that they take risks on and develop. Other than the big 3 which is an amazing way to start with a core, the other guys have limited or no upside surrounding them. Lebron already had to deal with that once in Cleveland.

I am pretty sure they are keeping tabs on Pittman even if they cut him for this season.

I think DeAndre Jordan would be the best fit.  Great size and athleticism.  Good shot-blocker and rebounder.  He can run the floor and could be on the end of some Wade and Lebron alley-oop passes.  He could also give the Heat 30 to 35 minutes a night as a legit second big man next to Chris Bosh.  He would form a very solid big man core along with Bosh and Haslem along with whichever veteran center comes back (Dampier, Magloire, Big Z).  One of those vets would be great playing 15 minutes or so coming off the bench.  Joel Anthony would be a good fifth big man.

If I were the Heat I would really go after DeAndre Jordan.  He can be there center for the next decade and a great enforcer/shot-blocker for the Big Three.  That would take some of the rebounding pressure of Bosh, and allow Haslem to play power forward coming off the bench.  With the Big Three, Jordan, Haslem (ideal back up power forward), one of the big veteran center (quality 10 to 15 minutes a night off the bench), Mario Chalmers as a solid point guard and a three point shooter (20 to 30 minutes a night either starting or coming off the bench, could turn into a Derek Fisher type player), the rest of the roster should be fairly easy to fill out needing only some defensive wings, some 3 point shooters, and another solid point guard.  Miller and Bibby (aka Mike and Mike) plus their 32nd pick in the draft which pretty much do it.  An awesome long-term core (Big Three plus DeAndre Jordan and Mario Chalmers) to go with some very good role players (Mike & Mike, Udonis Haslem, and Dampier/Magloire) looks to be the way to build a possible dynasty.

With that team, assuming that Mike and Mike can come back next year and give them some solid minutes and lots of three pointers, then the Heat should go after someone like Jamie Skeen (ideal role player who can hit threes, rebound, and score inside), or Chandler Parsons (does some of everything, kind of like Mike Miller, finesse player).  Or maybe they can trade down and get two late second round picks and go after Jacob Pullen  (can score some and handle the ball) or Isaiah Thomas (speed demon, can get to the basket, not afraid to take the big shot) at guard and Matt Howard (intangibles guy, can hit a 3 and get some rebounds, plays tough, would be a great 9th or 10th man on the Heat and can play either forward spot), Alex Tyus (great athlete, shot-blocker), Vernon Macklin (long-term replacement for Udonis Haslem), or Keith Benson (solid center, good height, can score and has good post moves who can provide instant offense off the bench) up front.

But the main thing should be for them to go after DeAndre Jordan.

The Heat don’t need a scoring center but Joel Anthony and Eric Dampier (especially) miss wide open dunks and lay ups.  Any of the options above don’t do that.

Doesn’t resign or pony up the green. Dalembert will most likely be at the top of Miami’s wish list.
