valentinein this list I was not looking for the ten best players of all time but what players have contributed to the nba as a whole. I am sure that I will have left some one off the list and I apologize in advance for that.
micheal jordan- one of the best players of all time, first former player to own an nba team
phil jackson- one of the greatest minds ever in basketball, he was a player known for defense and giving everything he had to his teams and he expects nothing less from his players
isiah thomas- bankrupted the c.b.a, , but he was also the reason the pistons won multiple championships and he greatly contributed to the demise of the knicks but he gets too much of the blame for this as he did draft well, for the most part.
larry bird- one of the big three of the celtics and a prime reason the celtics won multiple championships, he has also been the pacers president for many years now
jerry west- the nbas logo and one of the best drafting general managers in the game, he also was the lakers coach for three years
elgin baylor-played 13 years in the nba and a hall of fame career, spent 22 years as the clippers general manager
len bias/hank gathers/ rick berry- besides being three of the drafts biggest tragedys, I would also hope that the three changed the way teams evaluate players before drafting them- drug history checked- closer physical exams and more attention paid to players mental health
kevin mchale- another central part to the celtics big three and has spent many years now as the timberwolves g.m
wes unseld – hall of fame playing career and later the bullets coach for seven years and their g.m
geoff petrie-played in two all star games in a career cut short by injuries, co- rookie of the year with dave cowens, sacramentos president since 1995
danny ferry- had held the record for most games played for the cavs until z broke the record in 2009, later their general manager and current president of the spurs
lenny wilkens- second behind don nelson for most wins and a hall of fame player
don nelson – averaged double figures in scoring every year between 68-75 known as one of the best sixth men in basketball, all time winningest coach in the nba and former general manager
my apologies if I left anyone out as I am sure I did and this was meant obviously as a very brief introduction to the great careers and contributions of these men

DanEboyParticipantI am not totally following this list but you could add KG for restarting the preps to pros debate-big impact on the game.
Drazen Petrovic for kind of pioneering the International influx to the league. His success made other guys follow.

13kavaklargest impact upon the nba both as players and after their playing careers.

delfamParticipantyou could put Dirk Nowitzki on the list, but he impacted the league in a bad way. Now all 7 footers think they can play outside when they should be in the paint.
Also Larry Bird and Magic Johnson should kinda be paired together.

13kavakhe made it a gangster league? and thats a positive contribution?
this list since its not so obvious somehow is about great players who became great g.ms or coaches after their careers – positive contribtions to the game
one I left off somehow was rudy t he was a 5 time all star and two time nba championship winning coach

M-DYMESParticipant"he made it a gangster league? and thats a positive contribution?"
Read your post title bro…Top players to impact the game. It doesn’t specify that it had to be a positive impact.

M-DYMESParticipantDr. J and Wilt Chamberlain had a huge impact on the game as well.

HitsterParticipantDerek Rose for breaking the Number 1 draft pick monopoly that frontcourt players seemed to have in recent years.
Dennis Rodman for breaking every rule and doing things his way.

BKKnicksfanParticipantDerek Rose for breaking the Number 1 draft pick monopoly that frontcourt players seemed to have in recent years.
1) He’s been the league 3 seasons
2) He wasn’t the first guard taken with a number one pick
3) Come on now

Raef LaFrentzParticipantThis kid still thinks McHale is the GM of the Wolves.
And no Mikan, Shaq, AI? I can’t be bothered with this lame list.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 04/08/2011 - 10:32am #519342

HitsterParticipantD-Rose was the first backcourt player to be taken first pick since AI in 1996 and since then the top of the draft has been much more backcourt orientated than before.
Also I’d have to throw Wilt into that list – the 100 point game, the first statistical freak in basketball history.

iminipandaParticipantOne or if not the most electric player of his era. The only deceased member of the 50 at 50 team and the greatest HORSE player of all time. Truly a class act and a remarkable college baller at LSU.

Soulrebel15Participant“and yet somehow I am responsible for people not knowing how to read or think. sorry I am not a reading specialist.”
You are the one who created this post entitled, “top players to impact the nba.” Not top players to impact the NBA as players and GMs. Before you put anyone on blast you should double check what you put in print.

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantBob Cousy. Doesn’t get enough credit around here but the guy was arguably the best player in NBA during the 50s and changed the way the game was played with his passing ability and razzle dazzle.
