For the fourth time in the past seven games, Omri Casspi never left the Sacramento Kings’ bench on Sunday night, watching from the sideline as his team claimed a 106-97 home victory over the Utah Jazz.

The 22-year-old Israeli forward has experienced an erratic sophomore season in the NBA under the guidance of fickle coach Paul Westphal. After playing a total of just 27 minutes in Sacramento’s last seven games, Casspi has revealed that he would like to leave the Kings for a team that would truly appreciate him.

“It’s not easy for me to sit on the bench, which has happened to me quite a bit in Sacramento’s last few games,” Casspi wrote in a column published on Israeli sports website ONE.

“I’m a player who lives the game and as soon as you take away the thing I love the most in the world – playing basketball, it is hard for me.

“The situation in Sacramento is not like it used to be in the past. Coach Paul Westphal is experimenting and trying different things and I’m certainly not in his plans. We have six more games until the end of the season, and although I won’t say that I’m counting the seconds, it is clear to me that I will have to make some decisions at the end of the year.”

“I know that there are many teams, including some playoff teams, that want me ahead of next season,” he wrote. “I hope to find myself in a team that appreciates me as a player and a person, a team that plays like a team.

“I still don’t know if I will definitely not be continuing with the Kings. I’ve got a contract and love the fans, the city, the owner and the general manager.

But things haven’t worked out and that is legitimate.

Sacramento is the team that gave me the chance to play in the NBA so it would be egotistical of me to say I want to leave, but I’m certain that I’m good enough to play, whether it is for the Kings or another team.

“Clearly the current situation is not ideal for the team and for me. There are other teams which suit me better and since I have an excellent relationship with the players and the staff, I hope that they appreciate me enough to let me leave for a place where I can play basketball.”

I always thought his shooting ability would compliment Tyreke and Cousins very well for the future.

Westphal is really screwing up here. They need a new coach, as great as Westphal has been throughout his career and as much respec as I have for him he is just making bad decisions, not leading this team, and the team does not believe in his methods. Time to shake things up….

As a Kings fan its easy to see why he doesnt play more. He makes bad decisions and plays no defense. Donte has replaced him again and with Tyreke playing the 3 with Beno and Marcus Thornton 1/2 there is simply not enough playing time to go around. Garcia is a good shooter and Marcus has been on a tear from outside as of late.

If he is not some scouts and GM’s are screwing up Cause this draft is week and there is no way he should go later than 4 or 5.

scrubs like Casspi are complaining about playing time!

there is no way gets minutes over Evans, Thornton, Beno, and a healthy Garcia. if he cant beat out Greene for minutes he should STFU, and earn in practice!!!

especially when the team is trying to play fast.  his overall game hasn’t shown any improvement yet.  bad defense, can’t create plays for himself or his teammates, and is simply not strong enough to compete with bigger SF’s.  it’s hard to play someone who just sits in the corner and waits to shoot the ball. donte and garcia are similar, but they play better defense.  westphal has been doing quite some experimenting though.  i mean there were spurts where you wouldn’t see donte for multiple games.

Casspi is never going to be more than a role player in the NBA; it is going to be up to him to decide if he is ok with that. He does not have the talent outside of hustle and shooting to be a go to type of player. I was really high on him this summer because of how good he could become if he focused on improving his all around game, I felt if he could do that he would fit perfectly with Tyreke and Cousins. Unfortunately, it seems that some of the publicity has gone to his head, the reason that he is not getting as many minutes if because he is not as good as Garcia is.

Anyone else see the Knicks try to grab him for cheep?? I mean I dont think he is great but D’Antoni loves the Euro players and they do have a need for a SG/SF backup.. He would be a nice fit.. Wouldnt be surprised if they give a second round pick and an expiring contract for him.

Westphal is only coaching to make money.  He doesnt care about the players or  the kings or else he would develop Casspi and control Cousins.  We might turn out like a young Portland Trailblazer from the late 90’s.  Should have hired someone with a strong presence.
