the27guyParticipantI apologize if this question has been addressed before, but I’m curious, will Matt Howard play in the NBA? Also, Will he be drafted?
I’m a huge Jazz fan, and I personally would love to see the Jazz draft him in the mid second round. I think he’ll have a very productive career as Kurt Rambis or Matt Harpring 2.0 (I’m not just saying that becuase he’s white). I think he can be a very effective 15-18 minute per night player.
Agree? Think I’m crazy? Tell me what you think.

apb540ParticipantA huge Jazz fan wanting Matt Howard to team up with Gordon Hayward. Never thought I would see the day.

the27guyParticipantThanks for the white joke apb… I’m hoping for Barnes of Derrick Williams in the first round, so No, I don’t just want a bunch of white guys… although Jimmer would be nice 🙂

Ghost01ParticipantNo. Nothing about his game says NBA. Take a way a couple of GREAT putbacks and hes basically been invisible in the tournament, or in better terms has "pulled a terrence jones".

RUDEBOY_ParticipantHoward is 1 of those players that it will be hard to get an idea of how they would do in the league..He doesnt look that physical and he’s undersized for a power forward…But Howard is smart, can put it on the floor and has a mean streak…No team will take him in the top 45 picks..But if you’re a team that have multiple 2nd rounds picks in the latter part of the draft, why not take a chance on him?
I see him having to go thru the same thing Wes Matthews went thru..Like Matthews I dont see him getting drafted, but his toughness & hustle will impress some team in Summer League to get a training camp invite……I see him as a Euro player…

Ghost01Participantwhy not take a chance on him?

Because a week later you can invite him to training camp.

NO

Cardinal_FanParticipantI juss dont think he’s an NBA player, he’s not even a tweener. Howard is an undersized 4 with a decent perimeter shot. I would actually be curious 2 see if he measures out at a legit 6’8.

speedevilnow that matt howard has developed a 3pt shot, his game reminds me of Brian Cardinal. all hustle!!! of course Cardinal was signed to a hugh contract after 1 breakout year with the Warriors, he hasnt done much since, but still remains on some teams bench.
i think howard can have a long nba career.

SwatLakeCityParticipantI think both Matt Howard and Shelvin Mack will get drafted. Mack I think is a late first rounder, and Howard is a late 2nd rounder. Why do you think Gordon Hayward was selected so high? No, he did not deserve the 9th pick but he has raised some eyebrows and has shown some bright spots of potential. NBA scouts have started to take notice of Butler, and both Mack and Howard are their leaders now that Hayward left for the NBA. Some NBA will be interested in them because Butler is still doing well even with out Hayward.
I too am a Jazz fan and I would like to see them pick him up too, but unfortunately the Jazz do not have a second round pick (I believe it has been traded to the Warriors) So if the Jazz want him they will have to do a trade for him. He is one of my watcher players for second round trades as is David Lighty and others. What I mean by that is: "these are guys who the Jazz should try and trade their veteran players for in order to begin the rebuilding process again."

Ghost01ParticipantMack in first round? LMAOOOOOO. What can Mack do? he cant even play PG, cant guard anybody in the NBA, but can knock down an occassional jumpshot. I personally guarantee Mack will not be picked in the first round.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 04/04/2011 - 9:47am #517797
SwatLakeCityParticipant@urbanofeverything, you have a lot to learn. He is the leader of Butler, and he is doing very well in the tourney. He does really play the PG for Butler, thats why his assists are down. I’m if he played the Point he would be getting 5 a game. You need to stop hating and start paying attention to the little guys. Cinderella teams are not just cinderella teams because they are lucky. They have good players that know how to win. That’s what the NBA wants these days, winners. Both Mack and Howard are winners there is no question about it. If this site has someone where you don’t think they should go, then you might want to check out their stats or ask why he is so high before you begin to speculate. Trust this site a little more, this is a legitamate site. Don’t be a hater.
Some team will take a chance on Mack in the first round. He is their leader just like Gordon Hayward was last year. Some team will notice him and draft him higher then he probably should go. I used to think the same thing about Hayward until I saw him get drafted 9th last year when I thought he should go late first round. Same thing will happen to Mack. He should be a mid second rounder, but because of how well he and Howard have been doing in the tournament he will be picked higher. This is why Howard will get drafted, and this is why Mack will be a first rounder. Tournament success has a lot to do with where a player will get drafted.

Cardinal_FanParticipantMack isnt considered a lockdown defender but he plays defense. And he does much more than hit "an occasional jumpshot", makes me wonder do u even watch the games. Shelvin Mack can flat out play and i do think he is a poor man’s Chauncey Billups. He can stand to get in a lil better shape but the guy has all he tools.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 04/04/2011 - 9:59am #517814

Ghost01ParticipantJon Scheyer lead Duke to the title last year. And his numbers were better than Mack’s. Did he get picked? You guys have alot to learn. Size/Potential trump any leadership when it comes to drafting an NBA player. "he can pass"…lmao. Its not like Nored and Van Zant are All Conference calibur PGs, if they are handling the ball over him then how can you even have the audacity to compare him to Chauncey Billups? Its absurd. Why, because he shoots pull up 3s? They have nothing else in common. Chad Ford has Mack ranked 49th, about where he will go.
0- Posted on: Mon, 04/04/2011 - 10:18am #517832

unbelievaParticipantI always felt nored and vanzant brought the ball up to help mack save energy. He is clear cut there best offensive option and plays heavy minutes. When anything is going on in the offensive end the ball is placed in his hands.
Also Jon Scheyer didn’t "lead" duke to a title. He was the third scoring option on a team with another great guard and a great forward(both great at the college level only). When mack played against the USA olympic or world championship team two summers ago as part of the squad that practiced against them everyone raved about him. If he trims up a little bit I don’t see why he couldn’t sneak into the first round if a team think he would fit well. Also this years draft is getting weaker and weaker by the day which will help.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantThere were more undrafted guys last year that made teams.Than guys that got drafted in the 2nd round…So if you have 2 or 3 picks in the 2nd rounds, why not get your fan base excited on draft night by selecting a popular good character player?
0 - Posted on: Mon, 04/04/2011 - 10:32am #517839

Ghost01ParticipantHe was the third scoring option? No he wasnt. Why dont you look at the season stats. And he was the Point Guard. Somethin Mack isnt.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 04/04/2011 - 10:44am #517845
SwatLakeCityParticipant^^^ JJ Reddick led Duke to the title that year, I believe. Jon Sheyer is more of a shooter than he is a Point Guard. Same with Mack, but that’s why he doesn’t really play the point. He plays the 2 guard. Just because a player led the team in stats does not mean they are necessarily the team leader. Being a team leader is more then just leading a team in stats.
You need to start watching college ball a little more urbanofeverything and start to notice the little guys especially if you want to be respected on this forum.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 04/04/2011 - 10:55am #517848

Ghost01ParticipantROFLMAOOOOOO….JJ REDICK HASNT BEEN IN COLLEGE SINCE 2006. JON SCHEYER PLAYED PG. Talk about team leaders, you dont even know what you are talking about.

Raef LaFrentzParticipantI love how every conversation Urbanovreverything joins turns into him just making fun of other people and trying to hurt their feelings.

Internet thug.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 04/04/2011 - 11:18am #517864
natedogggParticipanthe will never be a star obviously but i think he could stick as a back pf/rotation guy because he has a high basketball IQ, has plenty of motor and is a team guy.
what more would you want off a 2nd round pick?
0 - Posted on: Mon, 04/04/2011 - 11:33am #517882

Ghost01ParticipantDarko- this dude said JJ Redick was at Duke last year. I dont need this website, im not trying to bully anybody. But the collective IQ in here is alarmingly low. probably because most of you are 14-16 year olds who have no clue what basketball is and would just like to continue to hype floor slapping whities and other COLLEGE players that have no NBA potential. You wanna know whose making the NBA? Find some NBA insiders, read there stuff, and then you become "informed". Dont just come on here posting is Player X, Y, Z NBA material when clearly they arent. In the meantime, enjoy acne and virginity.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 04/04/2011 - 11:36am #517884

Ghost01ParticipantAnd i would also like to find where i was attempting to hurt someone’s feelings….when someone is wrong about something, i point it out. I didnt start on personal attacks until i laughed at this guy saying JJ Redick was at Duke last year. Which isnt an attack, but it could, in a sense where this message board is your entire life, hurt your feelings. Sorry. Get some facts straight. Matt Howard, and Jon Diebler, and Josh Harrelson arent NBA players. They just arent. College isnt the NBA. Get over it.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 04/04/2011 - 11:40am #517890
Ricky BobbyParticipantIf Brian Scalabrine and Sasha Vujiac can play in the league than Matt Howard can. Howard ks one of thoes guys who will give his all. He needs to get stronger and better defensively to make an impact and get in the rotation
0 - Posted on: Mon, 04/04/2011 - 11:45am #517897
Ricky BobbyParticipantScheyer was the leading scorer last year for Duke and e didn’t have a bad game during the tourney. Without Scheyer Duke would of gotten nowhere. Look at this year. Scheyer is probably one of the most underrated Duke basketball players of all time.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 04/04/2011 - 11:46am #517898

Ghost01ParticipantI fully agree ^^^ But unfortunately hes just not an NBA guy. That eye injury killed his NBA hopes tho. Maybe next year he can sneak onto a roster late season…
0 - Posted on: Mon, 04/04/2011 - 12:43pm #517922

boxn1ParticipantMany guys have nba game that won’t get the nba shot. Someone has to give you a chance no matter how where or how productive you were in college or Euro Ball. Howard and Mack both deserve a shot, just like Scheyer does. They all can help teams right now, playoff teams.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 04/04/2011 - 1:06pm #517933

Dale WorthingtonParticipantProbably not. He’s like 6’6, horrible athlete.
LOL at people still thinking Mack could go 1st round.
Seriously?
6’2 SG with no athleticism.
Doubt he ever gets drafted.
GET@ME.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 04/04/2011 - 1:09pm #517936

ProudGrandpaParticipantOh, wait, Brian Scalabrine doesn’t play.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 04/04/2011 - 1:26pm #517947

TeamShowtimeLakersParticipantmaybe he could if he improves his game.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 04/04/2011 - 2:32pm #518007
billykParticipantI think Mack can play in the NBA and he has a chance to be a late first rounder… His handle is decent, he can shoot the rock, and he is a capable defender… Mack also possess a high basketball IQ… He probably needs to tone his body up and work on his decision making at the point, but the fact of the matter is he is a winner.. It would help if he declared to test the waters get some feed back and return for his senior season…
0 - Posted on: Tue, 04/05/2011 - 12:38pm #518401
doolanderParticipantBeing the leader scorer and rebounder on a team that made the championship game has to count for something! He also has to be better than your Brian’s (Cardinal and Scalabrine), and if not better, at least younger.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 04/05/2011 - 1:17pm #518432
OnionsParticipantlol, the closest JJ got to a title was looking 8 miles down the road.
I don’t see Howard’s game translating to the next level. Maybe if he could make 3’s, but his shot of his is too inconsistent right now.
